Hey John, Thanks for the gun scrubber tip. Works great. Just a few quick shots and it disolved the ceramique right out of my beloved REX's socket. Great mobo if I can get to use it for any length of time. Bad things keep happening to it. First I almost killed it flashing BIOS...worked three hours to get it back. Then I got two 3dm01 runs in on it @ 6.2Ghz....wicked quick success, but then condensation worked it's way somewhere...thought it was dead. But it wasn't, so I took the chip out and got the ceramique in the socket Next up is Q6600 action...hope to get 5ghz cpu-z now that the socket is cleaned out.

That template is my current vantage stable.. max temp on CPU cores is 63C, cores idle around 35C, actual CPU temp idles at 24. Wish I hadn't lost my settings.. Ah with 1.5875 CPU Vcore it still freezes fast in Vantage CPU test 1, so I don't think it's a vcore problem.. Gonna call it a night for now, and get back on the climb to 4.6 again tomorrow. Any suggestions in between then and now though, of course will be much appreciated. And I'll likely read them around 2:30pm tomorrow before practice, then move to OCing afterwards.

Halo drop everything to auto. set vcore @ 1.45 (should be plenty) 21*209. You can leave the cpu features like you have them, but everything except vcore/multi/bclk on Auto. See how it goes. bump up vcore till stable on some vantage cpu tests

ah, I see how it is, well I have a couple new toys being shipped to me from a friend, a bio-star 890fx mobo and a koolance dice pot that he is giving me, I just had to pay shipping and buy a cpu and some ram and they should all be here around the same day, hoping to see the max cpu frequency I can get out of it on dice, but it has been quite a while since I have even seen an amd board, but am looking forward to no cold bug.

Never had any CB or CBB until LN2. Dice is great about that. You can just dump it in the pot & go to town. Also much easier logistically then LN2.

Yeah, I've gotta come up with something other than eraser. Works good for my x58 board, but KP is right....transfers too much cold to surrounding parts. My smaller lga775 & p67 boards aren't fairing as well as my big 1366. They frost up real quick. Well, my 980x is off to intel. I hobbled across the finish line for forum warz with a crippled 980x. I managed some respectable scores, but not what I envisioned. Hopefully I'm back in business before the warz ends early next month, as I'd like to put some icing on dat cake

hey Q, i just grabbed some of that dragon skin...testing it out now. i put it on a cheasy agp card. you know they have the old easy pull of caps and all...lol but it filled in all the gaps. im thinking ...if we cover a full gpu in it..memory chips and all...i wonder how the vreg's would fair? after fring 2 of my cards to vreg mishaps..i covered them all up with eraser, then put a nice thin thermal pad and the water block back on and never had another vreg problem again. and so far...this stuff flows way easier than liquid tape. going to set my pot on it and freeze it down to -180C and see how it fairs then...lol with no voltage.

I would think covering the ram chips would be fine. They get cooled by the migrating cold from the gpu anyway. Vreg I'd cover around, but not over. Then put thermal paste or pad on the vreg s, then your choice of cooler on top of that. (block, heat sink, etc)
Where can I get this stuff?

i tried that...didn't work in the end. so now i just cover them all...but on the MB, this should butt up to the heat sink and create a seal in itself. http://www.smooth-on.com/distributor.php will give it the test when i get back home.

I saw a thread on OCN about dragon skin. And XtremeCustoms was one of the guys i remember from it. It seems like really amazing stuff! One thing they did say to be careful with was removal. They said if it gets under caps on the board, you have to be super careful when trying to get those parts off otherwise you could accidentally rip some caps off your boards.

Well if you think about it, it's not like it is insulating. It is just an easier solution than eraser for keeping moisture off a board. If you want to control frost, it seems to me that closed-cell foam is the only thing, and the eraser or dragon skin or other solutions keeps what moisture appears off of components. Or you could soak everything in Vaseline, and not worry about anything, lol.

The only thing that is going to insulate is... insualtion. I feel like I have been beating folks to death saying eraser does not insulate. Eraser is easy, insulation is hard. Insulation > Eraser. whats the difference between liquid tape, and the dragon skin? same stuff it looks like.

isn't liquid tape black and you can't see the componets? and doesn't spread well vs the other is clear and pretty much will level it's self out over a given area before setting in place.... speculation of course. and im only talking about keeping the water off the board really...others were talking about frost. and of course i use foam around the pot, matter of fact..i have a double layer of foam around the pot it self. (no shop towels - ) works petty damn good.
