Sweet, Q is onboard!

Ok, this post will be to keep track of what setups people can/will run.

Me: i7 920, gtx480, air
q6600, gtx260, air
[extra - e7400, gtx260, dice pot]

Halo: i7 930, gtx295, water

Threed: i5 655k, 2x gtx260, dice

Q: i7 980x, gtx580, ln2

Diesel: i7 980x, 3x gtx470, chiller
i7 930, gtx460, dice (or air?)
[extra - i7 920, gtx260]

Awalleye: i7 980x, 2x 580s, water
i5 655k, 2x 460s, dice
[extra - 2x 450s]

Nate (if you can):

Anyone else i will add in once you put up your info.

If you guys please could, post up what cpus, gpus, and cooling you have. Remember, you can bench multiple rigs. It will make getting 3 man teams for classes together much easier, and quicker. And we want to get assembled ASAP, to work out the kinks before official submitting begins.

As people post up their setup possibilities, i will be updating this post  to keep a good tally.

forum warz hardware list:

1. E760 w/ 980X and 3 gtx 470's (can bench these 1way 2way 3way) 6gig dominators gt 2000mhz.  All on chilled water but nothing insulated.  Cores have been around -7 with no danger of condensation.

2. UD3R w/920 or 930 (have both so whichever cpu is needed)
OCZ cas8 1600 (stuff actually oc's pretty good but can be swapped with dominators)

I have 1 koolance cpu ln2 pot.

cards: 1 gtx 460, 1 gtx 260, 2 9800 gts (I have no blocks for these), 3 gtx 470's w/koolance blocks

Hardware can be mixed and matched as needed, but thats what I can work with if you're needing a list of hardware for the warz.

MOBO: X58 E760 Classy | CPU: i7 980X | GPUs: 3xGTX 470 Tri SLI w/Koolance blocks | MEM: Dominator GT 2000mhz | PSU's: Corsair TX950w, CoolerMaster Silent Pro 1000w | OS: Win 7 Pro

Sweet. For now i will just put up combos of those, but also list the extra stuff below it. And since the gpus are just by # of gpu cores, definitely use the best gpus you can.

Once again guys please contact me via PM for links on where to post this stuff on 411.  We need one list from the two forums and that will be hosted at 411.  You will also need to register at TRP and I will provide you with that info as well.  MY goal is to have the teams sorted out by sunday the 16th.

Q?!  say it ain't so?!  booty.  You will be missed.  Congrats anyhow.  I don't see you leaving here any time soon.

Halo, in your dreams buddy, I still have the top 295 and I will breath new life into it when the time is right ;)

Since one on here has posted any pics in a while I will post some.

What you are seeing here is when I told my mill to move to the right over 5 inches.

Here is what the mill table actually moved:

That means I am within .0005".
That is Five TEN THOUSANDTHS of an inch.  Pretty accurate if you ask me.  Especially for waterblock production ;)

Here is when I told it to move towards me 7":

Again, .0005"

Now the up and down (Z axis)

Here is how I did the Z.  Clamped a DRO (digital read out, or caliper/depth gauge) and made the mill move up 7"

And an action shot mid drill.

I programmed the code, and was able to just sit and watch, occasionally pausing the sequence and cleaning off the drill bit.

The finished holes, and the MESS, that is now self contained!  Water cooling it is next ;)

@Q Good luck in your moving on/up.
@nate what you do is simply awesome, I mean everything!
About the forum wars, Heres what I am thinking, just want some input since there is sorta some limitations. Meaning I can't just swap out video cards.
So what I think is 980x with 2 450's. Or would 580's be better? not quite understanding the formula.
Socket 1156 on dice with something (never did dice, attempted a couple weeks back and board which I never tested failed to boot)
Then a 2600K with something again undecided. Haven't benched the 2600K yet but overclocks pretty good.
I suppose what I'm looking for here is suggestions.
  Thanks.

Also if I register am I commited to a particular set up. Like what if my dice attempt fails again? So how
is class determined? Or do things get classed auto by what they are?
  I feel so stupid.

Re:Get It Colder II 2011/01/14 17:43:46 (permalink)
awalleye, a 980x with 580's would be better. Basically, the formula is this for detirmining class:

# of cpu threads + # of gpu cores + cooling type (the handicap are listed in the rules for types) = total #, which tells you what class.

So for gpus at least, you want to use the most powerful ones you can, as 1 580 counts the same as 1 450, 2 580s=2 450s etc. So a 980x with a gtx580 would be the same class as a 980x with a gts450.

I can try and explain it more/give multiple examples if it is still confusing to you.

EDIT: oh yeah, also, you are allowed unlimited downgrades. Here is an example. You sign up with a 980x, 1 580, and dice (just an example remember). That would be 12(threads)+1(gpu)+3(dice)= 16. That would be class A. That means you are permanently in class A. But, if say dice fails for you, you can go to air cooling, but you are still in class A, even though with air your handicap total would be less. Or if your 980x died, and you used a 920, same thing; you would stay in class A. Basically, once the event goes live, you are in your designated class, but if something goes wrong, you can replace it with lesser parts, but stay in that class.

I think you can change up your config until the wars start, you would just have to update where you signed up.

For Class D I can near guarantee a 26K in Vantage. Unknown in 06... I think my highest right now is like 27k or so. That was with 756 core though so it has a lot left.

Ok, Now believe it or not I have been able to hit 1000/2000/2300 clocks on stock air with my 580's, how do I prove they are on stock air? Do I have to commit to certain set ups? Or do what ever and submit? Do all runs have to be run within the date line? Run with proper background and submitted within the date line?  Things change around here often. Sorry to be such a pita.
Oh jeese when will I stop with the stupid questions.
So do you have to run with all benches or just the ones you want or would it stupid not to run all benches. I also see must be multiple runs of each bench. Assume avg is your score.

Ok, Now believe it or not I have been able to hit 1000/2000/2300 clocks on stock air with my 580's, how do I prove they are on stock air? Pictures of the setup maybe? I don't think there is a foolproof way of proving it, just be honest. Do I have to commit to certain set ups? Yes and no. Once the competition starts, whatever rigs you have signed up, you need to bench those. But like i said before, you can always downgrade if something goes awry. Or do what ever and submit? Just run the specified benches, and i think we will be submitting on 411's forum, and the forum police from there just validated it. Do all runs have to be run within the date line? They all just have to be done by the time the submitting is closed. Run with proper background and submitted within the date line? Yes. Things change around here often. Sorry to be such a pita. lol np, i guess you could say i am captaining the EVGA part of this 411-EVGA union for Forum Wars, so i want to have everybody know exactly what they need to.

Any more questions, just ask.

Oh yes, i don't know if you or others have seen the official rules, so here they are: http://www.theraptorpit.com/forum/index.php?/topic/6161-forum-wars-2011-rules/

I have read the rules. But somethings just seem vague. Essentially they want honesty which is not a problem.
Perhaps I will do a video showing cards running and going to monitor showing bench running at same time.

Moving on up Q make some waves over there.

For forum wars seems like you want to use the best GPU since theres no handicap on using a 8800 vs 580. That's the way I read it.

Are you putting 411 as home forum for registration?

I guess you can if you want. I'm pretty sure honesty should be fine. If you think about it, every result gets scrutinized by each forum's forum cops. So it'd be kinda hard to bs a result with so many people checking.

Thinking 1155 is in though, water or air not sure yet have both available.

I think the judges will be able to tell the limits of cooling by the overclock your able to reach.

Also during the comp could i send anyone my 06 saved offline file and they submit it for link? My 06 code uhh let's just say is not going to work....

Oh yeah, i noticed some of you signed up at 411. Those who haven't, don't forget to sign up there and at TRP! Make sure at TRP to put the forum as 411 as we will be benching under that name.

Also, updated the team/systems list for us:

Good to know. You should post up at 411. On TRP where the official sign up is, you don't have to put in your rigs yet, just forum(411), name, email, and country. At 411 you should say your possible setups, just notify them that they aren't set in ston yet.

For now, i will add you to my list like this:
- i7 980x, 2x 580s, water
- i5 655k, 2x 450s, dice
- i7 2600k, 2x 460s, (air?)

This is more just for reference like i said; not set in stone. I just want to get an idea of what we can possibly have setup.

Yea +1 to Threed. I have some DICE experience, and as for prep, i am OCD, so that actually helps lol. I have tons of pics too, from my first DICE run; how i insulated and whatnot. And obviously lots of the other guys have dice ln2 experience (Q, Nate, ect.)

So that puts me @ 9 points right? Do I or don't get dinged for sli? I'll still be in the E class with single cards?

My set up is
Cpu:655k
Gpu: 2xsli 260 gtx
Cooling: DICE

4(threads)+2(gpu cores)+3(dice handicap)= 9. So yes, E class. And with only 1 gpu, you would be at 8, still E class. Definitely run both cards.
