So is there any advantage of the 3680 over the 980X besides ecc support?

Well my experience with the xeons is they run cooler but do not necessarily overclock any better. Actually the ones I used did not overclock as well as the 9xx series chips. Was just wondering if anyone knew any different on the 3680 vs 980X also newegg upped the price acouple days ago, of the 3680 by like $200. I am so tired of waiting for 990X since like June.

No problem going hot to cold..you can bench immediately and just sit back and watch the temps drop. When you are done, however......you are done, period. Bring it in and let it sit over night....don't turn it back on. Sometimes I blew a fan on it for a few minutes.

I don't think there is any difference awalleye. One is marketed towards servers, the other towards us, lol! Everything marketed to businesses is priced higher, go for another 980x. The silicon seems to be a lot better now than earlier versions. There is no indication that the 990x/995x, or what ever it will be called is anything anymore than a stepping revision. Some early reports had the 990x at an easy 5ghz on air.....later some testing showed some 990's didn't even clock as good as an average 980x. So who cares if it runs cooler with a better stepping if it can only clock like an average 980... If you wait, you'll might wait 2 months, but then you'll loose two months of benching season. If it were me, I'd get another 980x now, then if reports are crazy good on the 990's, sell the 980x, take your $300 loss and call it a rental fee. That's just me though.

You wont have any condensation problems going outside-just coming inside. I might suggest bringing the rig slowly inside? Like put it in the garage for a while, then in the basement for a while, then the house. Still the humidity is most important in the ambient air, but if its 25° outside (like it is here) you won't have much humidity inside either. its 65° & 32% humidity in my house, which means my board can be 36° and no condensation will appear. In any case, put the board upside down, let gravity help you in any way it can ;)

Thanks guys! I thought cold to hot was when you got condensation, but just wanted to make sure nothing happened the other way round too. Oh, and ya the temp is right. Chicago is cold right now and we've already had some snow pile on us. I plan to do some cold air benching with my q9300 to see if i can get that cpuz WR, seeing as i am #2 in that and #1 in 4 other benches with it. Maybe also try and push my sp32m down and bump up a rank or two in that too (5th in that). And while i'm at it i might as well up all my #1 scores.

Well boys got my XP drive loaded up, had a scary moment when I thought my pump was dead but it's fine, just had some air stuck in it. Gonna do some older 06/05/03/01 benching with the 295 on water for the first time. Should be interesting IMO, as should AM3. Only downside is my copy of XP is 32 bit, so I'm only running 1 stick of RAM. I think that means I can run it faster though lol.

Need to get a 580, not likely. First up is an AX1200 PSU, then a R3E mobo. E758 is failing me. Gotta say though this is the best ambient watercooled 295 I have seen before. I want a Tek 9 slim.

Oops, I reran it just after I posted that and scored better. http://3dmark.com/3dmv/2779832 You get a GPU Score and a CPU Score. Together they make a final core. That P64116 was my CPU Score. I noticed yours was lower for the same clock. If you use GPU Accelerated PhysX it changes the CPU score because it is meant to be ran on the CPU, not your GPU. Unless I'm wrong, which is highly possible because I don't know to much about Vantage. I never run it with PhysX on the CPU so I don't know what the difference in score would be. That's why I was asking.

I believe that a with Physx run scores higher in CPU test 2 when using a 400 series card. I know that stock vs OC is like 160ish to 205ish. (295)
