Is this some kind of a club?  If so how do I join?

you just did.
Now go start freezing your gear & get to benching. You have almost 225 pages on this thread alone showing you how to do so.

Q is moving on up in the world... brings a tear to my eye :)

try voltage. that's what the main problem would be.
and i think i had kingston memory 1333 up to 1620 or so before. ill see what it does when i get my laptop back later this week.

I have to take the motherboard out to see the rest of the board.  I have narrowed it down to the side facing the keyboard and the general location, but ....  ... do I really want to do this?  I'll decide tomorrow.

Default is 1.029v under load according to the multimeter.  There is a huge vdroop though.  Default idle voltage is 1.19v.  If I could find out more information on the circuitry, I would try to do a vdroop mod instead.

your doing good...i took a look at mine and that ic chip is way to small to do anything with..grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Dremel + Razor Blade + Pencil + Multimeter

Got it up to 1.070v under load.  So, that is a 0.040v increase.  I'm going to put it back together in a useable form and see what that gets me.

in all honesty...i think you could have grabbed that without messing with the board.
just by running 1 core/2 threads...

but great job!

If only I could do that... I would have done that a long time ago.  How would I go about doing that?  MsConfig?  It isn't an option in my BIOS.

Cool.  I will try that.

My pictures work for me.  It must be your network connection.

EDIT:  Now I'm getting page faults.  I am going to take out all of the 1333Mhz memory and put in the other stick of 1600MHz DDR3.

No luck.  I'm up against the same wall even with only 1 core and 1 thread running using MsConfig and using 1600MHz RAM.  Huh.  Well, I will bench it around the 160MHz base clock region and see if I can pick up a few more spots.

I don't know.  The thing has a mind of its own.  Now it isn't even stable at what it could do before without the added voltage.

This laptop skunks me over and over again.  Sometimes it will do this, and I will go away for half a day and then come back and all the sudden it overclocks like crazy.

so turn it off...let sit for a few minutes...then cut it back on.
jump to 150. then work your way up..2 mhz at a time...which im sure your already doing....

i just got mine back right now and it went up to 165, but froze right there.

Ok, since i have so many different bench OSs (6 to be exact), i wanna ask this before i install a bajillion on my system. What are the best OSs for what benches?

I assume XP or Server 2k3 for 2D. What about 3D benches though.

BTW, if you guys don't have em, or didn't know about them, this is where i got all my bench OSs: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=246346

Thanks guys. I actually did a lot of digging on this. Obviously, Intel v. AMD and ATI v. Nvidia affect the results too. I've always known XP is good for 2d. But then also core 2 is best in wprime in Vista. 3d multi gpu seems best in Vista 32, while single gpu in XP. Basically every config has different OSs that like it.

Yup.  Never used a lathe before.  I totally get the concept, but lack the experience.

The mill I am making will be CNC.  All the parts are in the mail, and should be in this week.  I am almost done with the base & Z column.  Its all bolted together, but I am going to weld it to be rigid.  Only thing that scares me, is welding is permanent.
