Downloading them now. Its going really slow because its megaupload. Not sure the kind of results Ill get with them. The run above seems to be a fluke run or something.

Or he could make a Nateman special ghetto block.

yeah...that ghetto block of nates got me quite a few points...from both ends of the spectrum.
what it's intended purpose was to do

heh ;)   There is still ONE more test that I am waiting to do on it, and that test is very soon!
Then it can be released to the public.

yeah, i would totally go for that idea....no more cups...lol

although you would still need gloves for the valves and it would need to sit close enough for you to pear inside the  pot.

This took about 9 min to get to this point.  I know somewhere you posted recommendations on thermometer/probes, Nate, but I can't find it....what should I get and how many?

Also, I looked for single sided neoprene tape @ mcmaster but seems I could only find double sided.  I'd like to get some to tie in the whole cpu block/hose connections.  Any recommendations?

Oh, and what do you think about a cooler to put the evap in?  Would this big ole' coleman work (thing's gotta be about 20 years old)

Wow, that looks like a NICE chiller

That chest will work. Anything that is water tight will do Cheaper the better too.

I wouldnt use insulation that has a tape side to it, it makes it too permanent and its messy to get off\etc.

If your just doing your cpu block use shop towels and insulation. Tape the shop towles at any joints in your insulation and get the thick neoprene stuff not foam, foam will work going up to your pc but I would use the good stuff once you breach the case.

Looks great

I see you just removed the squirrel cage fan, but that is a MONSTER air conditioner. I would guess at least 12K BTU??

I will post more in a few minutes, on my way to work-

Re:Get It Colder......2 2010/04/06 04:01:12 (permalink)
Alas I arrive at work and of course I can't see the pics.

As far as "thermal probes" for your chiller- go with this:
http://www.radioshack.com....jsp?productId=2049773

its $20 at ANY radio shack -comes with batteries- and does the additional function of telling you the humidity.  You can fully submerge the probe that has I would guess over a 6' length of cord?

Now you have some choices.  What do you plan on doing with this chiller?  First thing to consider is do you want to unleash the beast and go balls out? or do you want it to be a "chiller".  If you just want a chiller that will cool water just above the dew point then you will make your life much easier-but you wont get the -30°C that your AC is capable of doing.

Second, See anything frosting?  INSULATE IT.  the cap tube (the tiny coil of line thats frosting) and everything.  That will keep the cold in the cooler, and not dissipating elsewhere.   You can get regular "insulating pipe tape" at a home depot/lowes for that.  The sticky kind will help to get it stuck to the top of the compressor & all the other places the frost.

Your cooler will work, but keep in mind if its over 20 years old I am guessing that insulating technology has improved so if you get yourself a new fancy cooler it may hold temps better.  I have actually had condensation on the sides of my cooler because the 12 can is just not ment to hold -30°  just ice and soda.

We can walk you through the CPU block insulation part when the time comes because everything will be different.  The sticky tape makes a good seal, but we have better (and far less messy methods)  now that we have been doing this for a while.

btw-you have a PM

Nate, you need to get in to the chat, Im bored

Forgot to post this last night. No insulation need either, the Ultra Kazes blow right through the rad and on to the motherboard, keeps the ambient low enough so no condensation forms

I'm going to run out to Lowes and Radio shack now...I was thinking of running a de-icer windshield washer fluid/Zerex combo mix for the coolant.  I have pets roaming around and don't want any accidents, so regular anti-freeze is out of the question.

What do you think of that coolant combo?

I'm going to get some plasit-dip and look for insulating material at Lowes...anything else I should get while I'm there?

Plasti-dip FTW

Boy, I was hoping I didn't have to take my 295's apart again...They're so sensitive.  I'm always fearful I'll get the dreaded ?/caution sign in device manager.

You plasti-dip both sides?  How about the block sides (in between the cards)...my aquagrafx's have a lot of exposed copper.
