Yup it is, even with 295s.  Just a note for you guys, if you haven't tried Max Payne 3, I really recommend it, it was an awesome game.

Well, had a few issues tonight but I did manage one decent run. I held about -45C for the duration of the run, it was tough to do since my dice comes in blocks, so I was hammering away before starting a run. My first run at 1100MHz was the good one, I then did 1150MHz and got a lower score. I think that was because I didn't restart, just went right into it. After that I had condensation in the PCIe slot, some vaseline there stopped that, no idea how I'll get it out but whatever lol. I also had to up my insulation mid session too. I was going for 1200MHz next but I ended up running out of dice, I only got 8lbs to start with anyways. Figured I'd check with my local Airgas. The minimum they do for LN2 is 180L, at $150.37 with fees. For dice they do 30lbs for $36.38, or 25lbs for $31.03. LN2 is pricey stuff lol, but that doesn't seem that bad.
Praxair is about $131.50 for 160L, about $50 for 30L. Again, not too bad, but their dice is more expensive.

Why don't you go to phase changing or refrigerated cooling? You can achieve your -50C temps and not ever need L2N or Dice. The initial investment is large, but in the long run you wont ever need L2N or Dice.

Not exactly true...LN2 is to see what is possibly your best case scenario on your parts. Dice is for testing the water SS is for maintaining a nice balance between the two, but a killer on the electric bill! Not to mention a Casscade. And A SS can be quite costly to get fixed when broken. Unless of course you live next door to a SS builder.

@John, that's why I want to get versed in it and build a cascade sometime lol.  Well I have college coming up and I only spent ~$200 so far on subzero gear. To be honest I'd love to run my CPU on phase at -50C 24/7, it's just not the best option right now.

Very true, so far I'm in at Florida Inst. of Tech. and Illinois Inst. of Tech., still waiting to hear from USAFA but we'll see on that one. So, I am actually looking into it. Not sure if I will just buy one or if I'll build, to be honest I'd probably buy one. Although, aren't they kind of loud and they put out a lot of heat? Well if you will be using it at school and you are worried about the heat and noise i have a solution for you. Use a water cooled condenser and the school's water. I dont know what the default water temp is that is provided by your water company in florida, but here in Edmonton, the water is about 5C. Most water cooled condensers operation at a 85F discharge heat, so the delta temp is huge and makes for more efficient heat transfer. Thats a good option if you dont have to pay for the electricity and water. Plus, they have come out with DC compressors that are insanely effecient. They have SEER ratings of 28, which is about 3 times that of the ones from like 6 years ago (older ones have a EER/SEER rating of 7-10).

What do you mean stuck a water loop in to cool it? Where are you sticking the water loop? around the water cooled condenser? The water cooled condenser has 2 paths in it. One path is for the refrigerant to flow, where it rejects or releases the heat. The second path is where the water flows and it absorbs or picks up the heat from the refrigerant. If you wanted a closed circuit as your water loop you could do that, but your temps would be pretty high....and you would need a lot of rads to dissipate the heat as the condenser is discharging 85F constantly. As your condensing temps rise, so does your head pressure on the high side of the system....but now we are getting deep into the function of a refrigerated system which we dont need to be. If you have access to your school water supply and a drain near by, just use that. Fresh, cool water from the supply absorbs the heat from the refrigeration system and discharges into the drain. Well could you use a plated heat Exchanger? Have one of them be the "condenser" in the phase unit and have the other flow in the Exchanger be water? That way you could treat your HX as the heat source in the water loop, and it(the HX)would be the "condenser" in the phase unit. I have a lot of rads on hand so it'd be no problem if I did do it.

You could but thats exactly what a water cooled condenser does. The heat exchanger would have to be able to handle pressures of between 100 to 500 psi (depending on the type of refrigerant used).  When refering to hot gas, thats the vapour in from the compressor. After it gets cooled, the vapour turns into liquid refrigerant.

And these water cooled condensers are faily cheap. I picked up a 1 ton water cooled condenser from RSL (local refrigeration suppplier) for about $90.

Np, glad to help. If you are intending on picking up one of those water cooled condensers (WCC), just make sure you get the right size. You can actually get away with have an over sized WCC so the refrigerant will stay in contact with the water longer and reject more of its heat. This will help ensure all the refrigerant vapor is condensed into liquid. On the flip side, your water temps will be higher so you may need bigger or more rads to release the heat from the water. Hey Helo. I hope your choice of college works out. Question tho - was there any ambient geoclimatic bearing on your choices? Probably much easier cooling in Illinois than Florida.

Well just to update, college is officially Florida Institute of Technology. Army ROTC is going to pay for me as well! My major will be Computer Engineering, but I'd like to take some Electrical Engineering as well, so we'll see about that. I talked with Praxair again, and got quoted $110 for 160L. ( $.6875/L) I'm going to rent a 160L dewar as well, for about $1 a day. Fun times ahead, this just means I need to pick up a thermos or three. I really wish I had gotten a 3930K now, but alas. I'm gonna start with the 580 on X58 first, and try out the X5570 ES on the X58A-OC.

Looks like some kind of cnc or something similar .
Is that a stationary motor to move the drill, or is it the moving drill?
In which case, how does the house fan cool it if its moving out of the air being blown by the fan?

Q56, welcome back haven't seen you in a while, and I agree completely. This was always a thread I followed very closely, unfortunately most of my clocking is still on my X58, and not extreme, just water for 24/7 stability, so really doesn't qualify here.
It is benching season for those of us in the Northern hemisphere, its colder now, time to swing those rads outside into the snow and crank those clocks up!!
