930s a good chip for people who dont have a 920. They are almost exactly the same. Can't really take advantage of the extra multi.

Its the exact same thing as the 920, just with an extra multi.

You do realize than "SS" stand for single stage right. I would like to see sdumper try to build a 3 stage SS

A 3 stage Cascade would be so nice to have. Properly tuned you can the evap down to -100c and you dont need to constantly refill LN2, would ne noiiiceee.

Its no better than a 920 if not a little worse, that was just my brief experience though. I wouldnt bother with it. That being said sniper had some decent results on dice.

actually...no, i didn't..just that it stood for anyone running phase. but the 3 in there should have help clarify things.

and since sdumper is suppose to be one of the best..im sure it will be doing it's job.
and i think you better go read over here first before brushing it off as fantasy...

i was trying to figure out where my 920 stood up against it, since it was a 3900 batch. nowhere near as good as my 3800 batch.

@jon if your not sure what your benching at nowadays but if its still in the ball park of 4.7 then buying a 930 will be just like taking a chance on another 920

ARE YOU NUTS that was a great post but that kid is a prodigy by every sense of the word. Not one time did I say to myself I can do this if he can.

thanks reggie....because my 920 was acting like it didn't want to pull the same numbers as my first one. and i was debating on getting a 930 as a backup and the 980x as a main one.

i was like damn. and he just jumped in like it was nothing.... brazing away. changing parts for better ones. while they we're trying to be funny at first, but he never lost sight of his goal. i was thinking he should have changed it to phase. i think he will be a great builder if he sticks with it.

I WISH JOHN! LOL

I saw that chiller thread when it only had a couple of posts in it. The first post is pretty epic. I thought the kid was nuts, but it looks like he is doing pretty well with it. If I had the money to buy the parts I have the equipment to build a custom chiller, but I dont even have the ~140 for a AC unit\something to put it in.

FYI if the 980 I'm getting is any good, I may sell my 920. Yes the golden 1.

What's the standard mobo standoff/screw size? If you had to pick, should i use 6-32 or 4-40? I have a "project" I am getting started.

Re:Get It Colder......2 2010/03/21 13:21:44 (permalink)
good question there...i think it's 6-32
but SS/ln2/dice are 8-32 if im not mistaken.... <--these are for screws and not the standoffs.
also depends on the standoff..
the standard ones are 6-32...the long ones seem to be a different thread...or at least mine are. <--so my long standoff could very well be 4-40..how would i tell?

@John: Not sure exactly. You could measure it maybe? 4-40 screws are .112 diameter.

I am using it for long standoffs, but i am getting my stuff from MCMaster-Carr, and they have like every size ever.

Also, what can i use to connect two pieces of aluminum on a right angle? (besides welding it) Would JB Weld work? If so, what kind?

lol, yea it was most likely your solo effort

Well if I had more money for multiple GPU's\etc, I could do better. I can only afford to run one setup though. Once I get my license and a job (Im 16) I'll probably pickup some lower end GPU's and get Nateman or someone else to voltmod them.

I would also like to get a P5NB and a Cele and do a CPU-Z WR run.

I think one of our old computers(Currently parent's main rig) has a 3Ghz single core celeron in it. I have high expectations. Also we have another that's 2.4Ghz. I believe they're both S478 though.. I might actually get my dad to check the 3Ghz one.. Mhm that would be cool!

Single card 295.  Nice and Easy...look at the physx .  Either the 980 or the new bios is doing wonders with physx-on

Very nice Q! Now run it with GPU @ higher speed.

overclocks well with out huge amount of voltage required.

Oh it needs a lot of voltage...but it can take it and still run very very cool compared to the 45nm i7's.  1.7 is nothing for the 980

Well I have been thinking that perhaps some people are not approaching the 980X correctly. Like just how much you squint your eyes. And which side of your mouth your tongue should be on.
Also am RMAing my board evga says will get a 759 as replacement for my 759.

Hmm.. I want a 759. I'll probably end up with a 760 or a 762 though.

Get a 760 new so you get a lifetime warranty. There is not a huge difference compared to the 759. Also, only get the 762 if you know you will eventually have 4 dual slot vid cards, whether it be ati or nvidia.
