FattysGoneWild

I have followed the guide you made for installing/uninstalling drivers. Is it not longer valid? Since Nvidia seems to state in the release notes. Install over the top now?

maniacvvv

Update

Its not Afterburner, confirmed by testing

Installed the last known working drivers 285.79
Drivers run thu Heaven/Mark11 and GPUZ used to save older BIOS's

-->Both cards flashed with the 1.4 fan unlocker BIOS (as suggested by EVGA/Nvidia)

Cards again benchmark tested and GPUZ checked for new BIOS with 285.79

*295.73 Install
Going with a (295.79 release notes suggestion) Nvidia installer overwrite/install over the top of 285.79 Custom install, Graphics/PhysX/Clean install checked.

Install flawless and SLI enabled, reboot and AB Beta 14 installed, reboot and same quick benchmarks, reboot.

Videocard BIOS flashed and 295.73 installed, now its just running it hard (as before) and seeing if the BIOS 'was' the issue or not

I have tried both ways a bunch of times since 285.79.... every driver since that one, whatever method the newer drivers have had an issue.

I will try anything and test, if it works great...if not I have ruled something out.
*besides, I am covering my bottom on this. I have flashed my BIOS (as asked by EVGA/Nvidia) and performed the "recommended" by Nvidia install.
If I continue to have issues with newer drivers, then I will want my ducks in a row.

Alright, FINALLY got to install this driver and was looking forward to it. but like any driver over 290.36 It bugs out on the temps of my card. Its REALLY cold in my room. and it always idles at 25-27c on air cooling. The driver higher than .36 will make my 580 3gb idle at 40c... no matter what. If I clean install it, it will drop back down, but then after either rebooting a few times or just sit here it will stick at 40c again.

got excited and booted up Diable lll and was running at 31fps??? rebooted and tried again...same thing. put up skyrim since they bragged about a 40%+ improvement.... 31fps.

checked GPU-z and noticed that my clock was at 400MHz and my memory clock was at nill. opened up AB new beta and made sure my profile was applied. games started running better. but skyrim sometimes will play perfectly, then stutter for a second, and them my frame rates drop to 19. and wont fix itself till I reboot again.

Its pissing me off that my CPU is at 26-30c while my card is at 40c.

I guess I'll clean install again. RESET ALL of the settings again in control panel and see what happens.

could a video card have a bad thermal sensor? IF they even have one of those....

Really?  Let's take a look at that:

Core i7-2600k =        995,000,000 transistors. (995 Million)
GeForce GTX 580 = 3,000,000,000 transistors. (3 Billion)

So it has 3x as many transistors.  And if you're like most people the heatsink on your CPU is probably ginormous compared to the heatsink/fan on the GPU.

Did anyone notice any flickering problems? Like when I try to watch a youtube video or any video, it flickers...then when the vid is done, it flickers back. This is getting so irritating. I tried the clean installation option..still no luck. I'll have to rollback to an older drive..

Volts don't matter at idle. I've got a lot of air flow through my case along with an H50 that exhausts externally. While the Scythe AP-15's are not the quietest fans they have a much softer tone than other fans. Almost sounds like a gentle breeze.

So far things have been stable for me in SC2, Skyrim, and L4D2 with 295.73. I was having TDR issues, black screens, and flashing for all the driver releases; beta and non-beta, but only in SC2 (wasn't playing Skyrim until a couple of days ago and L4D2 ran with no hiccups). I solved the issues stated above by raising the voltage from 1.025 to 1.088 using Precision; my GTX 580 is also running the latest bios as well. I might eventually try to pull the voltage back a little, but as of right now my card's operating temps is still running well within spec.

was just going to add that my system has rock stable ever since i built this rig going a couple of yrs now but then i got a malware and it really through my system in a loop after numerous wipes and fresh installs it never seemed quite right. anyhow one i decided to update the firmware on the ssd except this time i did not install any nic drivers from here i let windows update dl and install them. from that point on i have had 0 problems with any video drivers.
i was getting the no sli in control panel along with black screens to not wanting to boot into windows after a clean install of vid drivers. i went round and round with these problems but now im glad to say everything is back to rock stable.
these drivers seem to run everything very nice

Personally I've had issues with these drivers from the beginning: Firstly, I installed the drivers the correct way (following Maniac's guide) and the SLI option didn't show up in the Nvidia control panel and nothing I did managed the enable the option - I reinstalled the drivers once again - it worked. Now in doing so I'm now stuck with the problem that everytime I turn my PC on, the drivers act as though they've just been uninstalled; no Nvidia control panel, GPU-Z doesn't detect a driver but in the Uninstall programme of the control panel they're detected. After all this messing around I decided just to revert back to the last decent driver for me, 285.79 which works like a charm. From now on: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Well after trying the beta drivers in between now an Sept WQRL drivers...

I am finding improvements in BF3 SLI with 580's 3gb. The best improvement so far is stability as the previous drivers would sometimes cause my system to freeze or randomly reboot. The previous drivers 295.51 would cause my rad to plume some hot air out into the room, which was nice on these cold winter nights, but not particular wanted feature. Those drivers would also crash.

Im still testing these drivers but so far last night on BF3 I didnt freeze.

What the heck, just did a clean install of these drivers in the correct manner and there is no option to enable SLI in the NVIDIA control panel?

I've NEVER had an issue with NVIDIA drivers before. Running two matching 570s on  a E760 Classified board.

Don't even get that initial Windows desktop popup "This system is SLI  capable".

Tried another clean install....still no SLI.

Tried reinstalling again with drivers already installed (installed over drivers) and still no SLI.

Not selecting anything other than Phyx and driver when installing....****?

Un-installed these new drivers cleanly with Driver Sweeper in safe mode. Installed 285.79 and SLI is back in the NVIDIA control panel like it should and when I installed and 1st booted I got the normal message "this system is SLI capable" like you should.

What is the deal with these drivers and SLI?

Now I see people talking about some issue with Realtek network drivers???

I just checked Realtek's site and I'm using the most current ones for my E760 motherboard, version 7.050 from 2012.01.20.

Update:  Second attempt with 295.73, videocard BIOS's flashed current.

After hard testing yesterday, last night and today.... maybe 15 restarts and 5-6 cold boots.
A cold shutdown for 3 hrs this afternoon gave me the same Driver failure

So much for it being the videocard BIOS....

I am now officially a pissed off maniac

Back on 285.79 which has no issues whatsoever and I am compeltely unable to install anything more recent, including the latest signed official Nvida driverset 295.73

Thats bull poop and I'm flaming angry...
Im going to restart my Thread  http://forums.evga.com/fb.ashx?m=1438749
and see what EVGA suggests my next move should be....

So sorry to hear of the problems people are having.  These drivers have been the most stable for me in a very long time.  My framerates in the game I play most often right now (SWTOR) have increased, as has stability.  I have Maniac's driver guide committed to memory and have been using it since he put it up.

Good luck guys, and thanks again Maniac, hope those issues are solved soon my friend.

Great drivers so far, but today I got a TDR while trying out Badaboom 2.  Then afterwards while playing a game of L4D2 my screen went black and game crashed.  But this hasn't happened once until I tried out Badaboom 2 today, so maybe that program started this hmm.

Have still issues. I booted just before and SLI was gone again. And again only 800x600. A reboot fixed that and SLI did come back.
But this is not what it's meant to be played, NVIDIA!
And, like always, not a single reaction of the perpretator.
