Ridiculous!

While there certainly may be users have issues with this driver, it NOT killing anyones GPU

What we are seeing here is NVIDIA DRIVER INSTALL ERRORS
If you read the first link, the recovery posted is not only the stupidest driver uninstall procedure, it is of course completely WRONG.

Wake up people
You DO NOT use a -default- Nvidia driver "EXPRESS" install -ever-
These issues are being caused by users who have installed the GeForce Experience and/or are NOT correctly shutting down Precision and the RTSS service before installing drivers.

People who use CORRECT procedure by shutting down Precision/Afterburner and the RTSS -AND- who did not install the GeForce Experience in the first place....
-->are NOT REPORTING ANY PROBLEMS AT ALL  -none-zero-

Turn off Precision and the RTSS -before installing drivers- and ONLY use a CUSTOM Mode install with GeForce Experience and Nvidia Update UNCHECKED
And always put a check mark in "Perform a clean install"

Maniacvvv,
In your opinion what is the best temperature monitoring program and FPS program to run in game if you should want to monitor temps and FPS?  Which is the least likely to cause problems.  I do understand they are all a "no no" to have running while installing.

Precision or Afterburner (latest versions -only-) installed without the RTSS addon...
-->for user fan profiles and temperature monitoring (I never run my system without it)

For viewing FPS data, most games have a internal view FPS command and this is -always- the prefered method

For games that do NOT have an internal FPS monitor...
Then installing Precision/Afterburner with the RTSS and using the OSD -or- using Fraps in a unbuffered config strictly for FPS would be the best alternatives. I personally use Fraps...

Thanks!  Am I correct that precision will not have the temp overlay in game without RTSS though?  I was wondering about a temp overlay so I could keep an eye on them.  I suppose I could add a second monitor and keep an eye on them that way without RTSS?

If you're just wanting to display temps and voltages of other hardware too then you can use HWiNFO64  which can display any of its readings onscreen via EVGA's PrecisionX or Afterburner's RTSS. I use the portable version and have tested the osd which works very well but will only work using the RTSS.

Normally i'd agree with you on that one but in the last couple of months i've had both Precision X and Afterburner user defined fan profiles just stop working and lock the fans at 37 or 40%.The first time i didn't realise my fans were not speeding up untill i'd played BF3 for an hour and my top card had hit 101c. Luckilly i noticed the fans not speeding up the second time. Both times this happend was on 2 different driver sets and was ok once i'd reinstalled the driver again. This seems driver related more than software to me but i could be wrong. Anyway! since then i'm just too paranoid to not monitor my gpu temp's as like plenty of other people have spent too much to see it killed by dodgy drivers. I always use the method i Your guide to installing the drivers too and unistall Precision while doing so.

Hate to break it to you, but your setup with HWinfo -and- the RTSS is probably "why" your having fan issues...
This is quite common. Users sometimes have multiple programs running that use injectors into the Nvidia driver, and due to changes in a given driver or lack of updates to the third party programs used to account for those driver changes...
-->serious issues can sometimes occur

I never had HWiNfo open the first time it happend chap but i'll take onboard what you've said as i know you shouldn't run more than one monitoring software at a time. I tell plenty of folk not to do it myself.
Cheers!

This is the main reason I stick to the NVidia Inspector Tool when I OC for benchmarks. You set your clocks, up the fan and close the app - that's it. If your OC doesn't hold and its crash doesn't lock up the system entirely, then using Task Manager to close out the app then returns the default settings to the driver as it resets.

Very nice feature, even if it is a slight PITA to reset everything and try again...

Thanks everyone this has been very helpful to my question.  I can always alt tab out of BF3 between rounds and check max temps.

I just reinstalled the 314.22 driver because 320.18 was not playing well with metro2033.

By not playing well, I mean texture corruption, artifacts, TDR errors, anomolous windows desktop appearance afterwards (boxes going unpainted), and in one case a the system locked up and wouldn't let me ctrl-alt-delete out.

I think there should be a new 320 driver release real soon now, hopefully that one will be better behaved.

Does Kepler seem to be the difference in those having issues with the driver, and those not? I know many with 680, or newer, and none have issues (all of them DO follow maniacvvv's guide/suggestions, as well). I don't have time to make sure everyone who has issues has updated profiles, but it's very curious that the majority of users I know online that have issues with 320.18 (who aren't the type of people to use express install, etc.) are using 670's all the way back to GT250's. Just a thought.

These drivers for me are fine in BF3 but Metro last Light is a different story. No artifacts per-say but there's weirdness where all the lights go through walls which basically blinds you.

Unsure if there's a way to fix that? The problem goes away with 314.x drivers.

It's not a mistake to wana be able to monitor your system while you play. The ability is there for good reason lol. Using your example, with my fan profile I can run Heaven for an hour and never break 60c. But let me boot up Witcher 2, Sleeping Dogs or Tomb Raider 2013 its a whole different story. In minutes my card can climb up to 64c, a temp I never come close to with Heaven. To me it's better to be able to check on the fly at the touch of a key while gaming, then to find out something failed once its too late. But everyone's got their preferences.

I had this happen and it toasted a video card. Pretty sure it was Precision though, the monitoring software. It did this when I put my computer to sleep and the woke it up and played a game, fan locked at 40%.

Unlucky mate :( I was lucky that i noticed so didn't damage my card's. Nvidia have knocking some bad drivers out recently what with a fair amount of people claiming they've killed card's. Apart from those 2 instances i've had no problems except my cards seem to get hotter with each driver update.

This driver causes my task bar icons(time/date/volume) to pop up behind my right bezel in NV surround, had to roll back to the last drive.

You can use GeForce Experience all day long, just make sure you do not let it do an express install...ever.  I like it because it makes recommendations for what settings my setup can handle.  However, I would never let it make these changes to config files.  That is just asking for trouble.

This thread is confusing.. the title is version 320.18 but there are comments in here from me back in May, and 320.18 did not exist back then.. so it's hard to know which recent comments are about which driver.. plus we're up to 331.65 already anyway...

This thread is confusing.. the title is version 320.18 but there are comments in here from me back in May, and 320.18 did not exist back then.. so it's hard to know which recent comments are about which driver.. plus we're up to 331.65 already anyway...

LOL I was a bit confused when I saw that too..

Anyone have thoughts on 331.65? I've had some funky issues recently with it, might need to roll back
