Hello evga users

reporting that my new GTX980 does not work using a Display port to display port cable. if I start with a monitor plugged into the DVI to get a image to start the process and then add the additional 2x monitors via display port to display port, i get the "Dar Donk" sound and they show up in windows but choosing resolution and landscape etc is greyed out & i cannot select them nor do they show any image and the monitor just reports  no signal.

i have tried a heap of different drivers 344.16, 344.75, including the "hot fix" version 344.80 and currently the beta release and all are the same.  I have tried a different GTX980 and get the same problem, so i am not sure if its monitor DP, driver or cable issue.

I can get the monitors to work using a display port to DVI cable, so from DP on the card to DVI on the monitor, this config works... but i want to run at over 100hz (triple screen iracing rig) so its no good to me this way as it wont let me go over 60hz and my old GTX590 was able to hold over 60FPS most the time to vsync to 60hz screens.

Are you trying to run more than one monitor off of a single Display Port output on the GPU? If so, I don't believe that is supported for surround.

    Hi HeavyHemi

each GPU DP out let goes to 1x monitor

1x monitor = DVI - DVI (works at 144hz) using this otherwise i get no screens working
    1x monitor = DP - DP
    1x monitor = DP - DP

I contacted support as soon as I came across this thread, as I am having the exact issue you are receiving Shanestar44. I had a reply from support regarding flashing new firmware on my reference sc 980 (2982), which should address this issue...

This however has made the issue worse as it seems dvi does not work at all now. Just a black image on my monitor with dvi whilst my monitors with dp show my desktop. It says nothing is plugged in via dvi even when I tried just the dvi by itself without any monitors via dp plugged in.

Will update when I receive help from support again.

    Thanks, kind regards

I'm not having an issue at this time.  But I did have an issue originally when I tried using DP.  After connecting via DVI/DP and installing and uninstalling gpu drivers it worked!  I haven't had an issue since.  I was simply wondering what the "update" entailed.

    guys,
I ended up replacing my Display Port to Display port cables with high quality ones that were VESA Certified and that seems to have corrected the issue for me.  My 1st DP-DP cables were bought from the PC parts supplier and were $15 ea.  I thought the problem might have been the cables (seeing as though they seemed to half work), so i took a gamble and bought 2x DP-DP cables from a reputable cable specialist who stated the cables are VESA certified and tested at the manufacturers, they were about $27 each. but they worked.  I have not flashed the BIOS (currently is 84.04.1F.00.82) nor do i wish too ( I returned my 1st MSI GTX980, because that was that manufacturers only option as well) as I studied the process and was not comfortable attempting to do it.
so for me in my case the cables seem to have been the problem...

someone PM'd me about my monitors but i cannot reply as yet, as i do not have enough posts up.

Which cables are you using, if I may ask? Pretty much every cable that I've ever seen at retail that is "VESA certified" is, in fact, not certified at all. Just because someone claims it is so, doesn't make it true, and I'm having a hard time finding real certified DP cables. So I'm interested in which ones you got a hold of, because if they solved your problem and are genuine, I'd like to get some myself.

You can search the list of genuinely certified cables on VESA's website.

Specs: x79 Sabertooth ASUS mobo, Intel i7 3930K CPU, 64 GB RAM, GTX 1080 Ti SC2 Hybrid GPU, 512 Samsung SSD, 2 TB WD HDD, Sound Blaster Z Soundcard, Corsair tx850W PSU.

Re: GTX980 in triple screen setup with Benq XL2430T via Display Ports = DOES NOT WORK ??? 2016/01/11 14:31:00 (permalink)
Well im afraid to say that after a year of pretty much hassle free use of my triple screen +1 setup has decided to not run all the digital outputs.
no matter which monitor is where or which cable is plugged into which DP port i will always end up with 1x of the display ports not wanting to be activated.
the monitor shows up in NCP as there but if I select it the PC locks up.

this issue just randomly reared its friggin ugly head after adjust AA settings.

I have 2x SSD's running there own W10 OS and both are in the situation now. obviously its a card issue. one Os im running latest driver and the other i am trying older version to try work this crap out. SO PO'd    love the EVGA product.,... please HELP.

i have tried and tried several times with latest drivers and older drivers with totally clean installs using a program to fully remove all things nvidia in safe mode. and i always end up back where i am with the card only wanting to show 1x of DP's (doesn't matter where im plugged into), 1x DVI and the HDMI.

all monitors and cables have been individually tested and are good. CPU has been tested and passed, same as RAM and MOBO.

what am I supposed to do now EVGA ?

so annoying after going fine for a year.  PLEASE HELP. im missing out on my iRacing.
