I have confirmed MSI Afterburner 2.1.0 Beta 7 can adjust the voltages on the Palit/Gainward non-reference cards.

I'm using beta 7 and the voltage control is blank when I check the "unlock voltage control" in the settings menu.

Have you entered all the info to the config file for this to work as described in the forum post on guru3d, especially the EULA string?

You're running service pack 1 for Windows 7? Only ones I have seen are leaked versions or beta builds.

Well ya SP1 is beta but it's working great. Anyone can download it. Are you still not showing the voltage slider in Afterburner?

the presence of 7 hotfixes on windows update for SP1 7601.17514.101119-1850 leak pretty much confirms it as the RTM.

I don't typically install updates to Windows unless it's a official release from Microsoft. And no, I still don't have any voltage support for my GTX580s.

thats understandable :), i was hoping they would've fixed the moving task bar, the broken lock on the task bar (right clicking on a pinned or unpinned app lets you drag the taskbar when locked) and the DDraw deadlocks.

To access the voltagecontrol on Gainward GTX580 Phantom 3GB with Afterburner 2.1.0.beta 7 all i did was to check in Unlock Voltage control and Unlock Voltage monitoring under saftey property in settingsmeny and i can now raise from 1000 mVolt to 1150 on the card.

lol, I know "how" to access the voltage control, however for me it's just not letting me with my cards. As I said above, after I check the box for "unlock voltage control" my voltage slider is still blank. I'm going to be doing a fresh install of Windows soon as I'm switching motherboards so maybe whatever is buggering it up will be corrected.

Brazen_NL raises a valid point,

some cards don't support voltage control without the config file mod.

okay maybe some of you surround junkies can help me decide. 5760x1080 is the res im gonna run (monitors are in hand :D) i currently have the 1.5 gb 580s and was wondering if i should sell them for the 3 gb 580s ? thoughts ??

I run the BC 6010x1080 and I crank the eye candy in everything I play, but then I lower AA if needed. Most of the time it's needed and I find myself at 4xMSAA a lot. If you want high amounts of AA, get the 3Giggers. If you want max candy and can do without the higher AA levels, you're fine as you are.

Craps results don't mislead. Great job Craps!

But Gainward Phantom 3GB and Palit 3GB is the same card with different cooler. My Win7 is very dirty and Vega was able to activate the control with Palit 3GB as well so i guess it is something to do with driver or other thing not right as the card(s) do support voltagecontrol after activating it in the meny.

Hi,im just in process to slowly upgrade my old Asus Striker Extreme MB/Asus 8800 Ultra GPU/4GB 800 mhz 4-4-4-11 T2 DDR2 Ram,WD Raptor 150 GB Hdd/Zalman CNP9700LED/HP LP2475w/Zalman ZM600-HP PSU in bad vibrating midi steel case into something faster.(Though i cut 3x120 mm cooler vents into case, and it runned cool, but loud).First i bought Lian-Li 2120 Black case, and Silverstone Strider 1200w gold+ PSU,installed old system into it.Its way more silent, though i need to bought for my pc table new legs, case is so huge,it just dont fit under table otherwise. My next step was either Gainward or Palit GTX580 with 3 GB Vram.....BUT,preferrably with Thermalright Shaman or Arctic Cooling Extreme Pro installed.Starting with one GPU,adding second about Christmas for SLI (aiming for 30" monitor with maxed settings for gaming/later 3x 1920x1200 in portrait mode{maybe}).

What you think, are those cards close to reference card layout? To use either of those coolers.Shaman is 4 -slotter,Arctic cooling 2 slotter....and probably still mutch quieter, then Palits 2 cooler,or Gainwards Phanthom cooling design.Maybe usable with extra heatsinks on extra Vram chips or something. What about watercooling them?I asked both companies, but i doupt,i will get answer.
What about 3x ATI 6970 in Cf mode?Should be enough for 3x1920x1200?Way cheaper though.

So, anybody have direct prove information about that this palit gtx 580 3gb has compatibility with rise core voltage of MSI afterbuner 2.1.0 beta 7? Maybe someone will put some screenshots here? Also I'm interesting with temperatures in SLI mode, compare with reference Nvidia card coolers?

@ romkoot, no the PCB on these cards is definitely not reference. The mounting holes are in different places as well as a different PCB layout.

@ al_bo, it seems that some have got voltage control to work with these cards, I however have not been so lucky yet. I'm going to do a reinstall of Windows in the coming days and see if that helps. I'll post back here when I have done so.

Some forum i found about Eyefinity/multimonitor gaming. Also 3x GTX 580 3 gb (will be 4x.if tester gets his 4th card) with tests http://hardforum.com//showthread.php?t=1573598&page=25

Down on that page: I have confirmed that Afterburner 2.1.0 Beta 7 can adjust voltages on these non-reference cards. Thread has also quite interesting info,i didnt knew CF bridges are throughput capped starting from 3x CF at higher monitor settings.

And what about full load card temperatures in SLI mode, compare with reference Nvidia card coolers? Is it lower or higher? Especially 1st card (upper)?

Re:GTX580 3GB 3 Way SLI + Surround 2011/02/14 14:31:02 (permalink)
Finally a professional review came out with the Gainward Phantom 3gb GTX 580 version.  According to this review http://www.fudzilla.com/r...580-3gb-phantom-tested I am content with the 1.5gb version with my one monitor.  That review concluded this as well stating:

Gainward GTX 580 3GB Phantom runs at slightly higher clocks that will not really affect performance. However, the card is still the fastest single-GPU graphics card around and will chew up any game with ease. If you need more than 1.5GB of memory then this is the card for you as it packs 3GB of GDDR5. Note however that the added memory won’t help much if you’re playing on one display, although some games might find some use for it at 2560x1600 (32x AA and 32x AF). This means that dual-display gaming will probably be the wisest application for the frame buffer.

If your not running surround, you don't need this card. The 3GB GTX580 sole purpose in life is surround. Yet no review sites actually do surround tests lol.

Re:GTX580 3GB 3 Way SLI + Surround 2011/02/14 19:26:15 (permalink)
Both Gainward and Palit advertised stupendous gains in games with the 3gb version vs the 1.5gb version not mentioning Surround to get the advantages but one 2560X1600 monitor.  They are presently being proven incorrect in those boast.

Palit is advertising the card this way:

With double memory size , Palit GTX580 3GB provides 2.5X faster performance than 1.5GB version in the hottest title StarCraft II on a 30" monitor with 2560x1600 resolution
http://www.palit.biz/main/vgapro.php?id=1504

Gainward boasted even more stating:

Most importantly, Gainward GeForce GTX 580 3072MB "Phantom" runs an average FPS on Metro 2033 (DirectX 11) setting to Very High with MSAA 4X at 2560x1600 resolutions - surpasses up to 279 % than GTX 580 1536MB memory; on blockbuster game- Crysis Warhead (DirectX10) at same resolutions and Enthusiast setting with AA/16xQ, it manages an average 20% faster . Furthermore, on hot title- StarCraft 2 (DirectX 9) with 32AA 16 AF at 2560x1600, it runs with an average FPS of 45+, exceeds sharply 152% than GTX 580 1536MB.
http://www.gainward.com/m...dm_GTX580_Phantom.html

The Fudzilla review showed several benches with 16xAF showing hardly any gains.  And seriously, can the naked eye see any difference in these settings other than it starting to chug due to these settings at 2560X1600.  There comes a point where insanely cutting edge meets ridiculous

Those boasts aren't incorrect. They are just using super high amount of AA that the 1.5GB cards would choke on. Notice Crysis says 16x AA and Starcraft 2 32x AA. Those numbers would easily surpass 1.5GB. Amounts of AA not tested by the review sites. Don't get AA confused with AF.

I decided to hold off because the current generation hardware's performance levels aren't quite adequate enough to warrant the upgrade.  If Kepler is as powerful as they say it is, having ample video memory for it would be ideal.  CraptacularOne's breakdown of the performance differences showed that the extra leg room did help, but it didn't seem to provide enough oomph to satisfy my interests.

Just an update to this thread regarding voltage adjustment for the Palit 3GB cards. After a re-installation of Windows I can adjust voltage on the cards up to 1150mv using MSI Afterburner beta 7. It appears something in Windows was buggering up the works, but it works now.
