GTX980 is disappointing in 4K. GTX780Ti is trouncing it in all but one 4K tests. Not surprising maybe, although it has more memory, it's only 256 bit. So I guess price is making sense, anything higher would be overkill.

I get the feeling these cards will only improve with driver updates and overclocking.

    I'm suitably impressed.

funny the benchmarks don't include new sampling like MFAA - which is 2x the performance over MSAA
and the fact maxwell is meant for serious overclocking according to Jen Sung CEO Nvidia at Game24
    Nice Announcement and details

Jen Sung said it's the fastest GPU - faster than titan

Benchmarks don't include any new tech released with the card in the tests
you use 1/2 the power and get 2x the perfomance over kepler

then you add in the extras features the other cards can't do

Nvidia announced four new features that promise to make games look more realistic: Dynamic Super Resolution, Multi-Frame-Sampled Anti-aliasing (MFAA), Voxel Global Illumination, and VR Direct.

bandwidth is doubled by Compression - so using the same bandwidth they can provide twice the detail and data

they re-engineered so it use 1/2 the power to do the same job per core

The new Maxwell architecture is also dramatically more power efficient than Kepler—the 980 can deliver 30 gigaflops per watt, versus just 15 gigaflops per watt for the 680 and 780. That's allowed Nvidia to bring the card's thermal design point down to 195 watts, and to once again run off two 6-pin connectors.

in fact the Nvidia stock model is 165 Watt GTX980

I'm waiting to see when non reference cards come out and the real over clocking begins

New architechture, still mid range chip (this time blatantly), another $50 and no new node. Laughed so hard at these.

X399 Designare EX, Threadripper 1950x, Overkill Water 560mm dual pass radiator. Heatkiller IV Block Dual 960 EVO 500gb Raid 0 bootable, Quad Channel 64gb DDR4 @ 2933/15-16-16-31, RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra, Corsair RM850x, Tower 900

Yeah, cutting off 80 watts of electrical consumption while still outperforming the current 700+ dollar card is so hilarious.

Oh wait, the 780 and 780 Ti are discontinued now?

    Oh.
