You think nVidia will release it by June 2015 to compete with R9 390(x)?  Thank you!

I only see NVIDIA releasing a 980 ti under two conditions:

1.) The R9-390x performs very closely to the Titan X
    AND
2.) The R9-390x is priced significantly lower than the Titan X ($500-$700 range)

Not sure why Nvidia would release a weaker card after their flagship at this point. There is plenty of speculation in the other 980ti/Titan X threads that have been created.

    Only time will tell.

Titan X should have good resale value when the 980 ti's drop. Just sell your Titan X and buy a 980 TI unless you need the VRAM for 4k.

I would really like the 980 Ti for $600-$650 with 6GB VRAM and 10% slower than Titan X.  I guess I will wait until June/July to decide my next card.

Faster than Titan X but cheaper?  Doesn't sound like nVidia...

Don't get me wrong Sajin, I plan to have this card last me at least until I start hearing word of Pascal (if I wanted to save a few Benjamins I wouldn't have bought it in the first place). Besides, gotta pay that Nvidia premium on 6 extra GB of "deep learning" lol.

I don't see what price point working..especially with how EVGA tier's their cards. That would put the 980 Ti which would be a better card at a lower price point than the classified, kingpin, and hydrocopper.

I think if anything the 980Ti will have 6-8GB of VRAM and come in around $799  plus even the reference versions are at 550ish.

Just my wish.. probably won't happen but I think it all depends on how AMD R9 390(x) are and the prices when they are released!
I may end up getting R9 390... who knows...

Kingpin Ti too?  Or will it not be a "980" Ti but called something different...kinda messed up that the Kingpin version would not be the top dog, spec wise.  At least call it something besides 980 Ti so I feel better since the step up will be long gone by then...if I wanted to step up.  I vote 980.5 for the name.  :(

I'll go against the grain and predict they won't release a 980Ti unless they have problems getting the next gen out the door.  I don't think they care what AMD does anymore since AMD isn't a threat to anyone.  Nvidia hugely outspends AMD on R&D and they don't have an x86 business to worry about.

I agree with Anon, I don't think they will do it. AND isn't giving enough away like they did before to make anyone think they will have a fight for the crown.

Notice thst the 780 3gb never had a 780 K|ngp|n like the 780ti.. Because, conveniently companies probably knew that there was something better coming. Then *POOF* AMD launches and NVidia announced the 780ti and EVGA quickly announced the 780ti K|ngp|n. It stayed on their home page for months as a matter of fact. The K|ngp|n was announced long before the Classified came out.

I wished I waited for the 980Ti O.O, right now I ordered my 2nd GTX 970 SSC+ (3975) today so I can SLi it when I get it

also my first card was the 970 FTW ($400) but I step up to the SSC+ (3975) because of better power delivery so that makes it $740 in total for 2 cards

    Re: GTX 980 Ti? 2015/03/26 19:14:24 (permalink)
A few R9-390X performance levels were leaked previously to try and counter the positive Titan X PR wave, and were confirmed by multiple sources.

In those AMD slides, the average performance increase across four of the biggest benchable games (BF4, Bioshock, Crysis 3, etc) in terms of net fps gain came in at 1.55x what a 290X single card does in the same tests at a 4k resolution.

It varies a bit based on the game, some were as high as 1.70x and others as low as 1.45x, but on average it's roughly equivalent to that 1.55x figure as a whole.

That puts it above a GTX 980 as you'd expect by approximately 1.25x to 1.40x depending on the game, which is also within roughly 5-10% of where a base stock-clock Titan X comes in at the same game/resolution against a GTX 980.

That's why the rumors about a "$750" price point for the 8GB 390x are accurate, because even at that lofty price it can represent some value for someone looking to get near-Titan X performance for less money.

    Which means...

The 980 Ti will obviously deploy very shortly after the 390X, at that same $750 price point (or say $699 if it doesn't manage to match the 390x in the major benchmarks for whatever reason) as Nvidia is usually reluctant to leave AMD out there alone at a price/performance leadership tier.

Either way, whether you splurge for a Titan X today, or wait until July/August for a 980 Ti, I don't think any of us be disappointed.  Nor for that matter would be disappointed in a 390X either by all indications, it also seems very solid at that price point.

Shame that prices are creeping up, but at least we'll have 3 very solid options to choose from based on budget by the end of the Summer (Titan X, 980 Ti, 390X).

^ Add to that the Titan /possible 980Ti driver refinements and Nvidia's usual TWIMTBP with newer releases. This ought to be good.

This +1 , should be a overclocking/water-cooling dream GPU for some.

I'm having trouble deciding if I should get one of these or not. Right now I'm running two GTX 780s in SLI, which are very fast, but am running into VRAM issues in some games (playing at 1440P and using DSR to run older games at 4k). I think 780 SLI is on par, maybe a little bit slower, than a Titan X performance wise. If the 980 Ti is as fast as the Titan X I won't see any real improvement outside of more VRAM. But if I skip the 980 Ti whatever comes next from Nvidia is so far away!

    Someone decide for me. ;)

GTX980Ti would be interest if NVIDIA leave all CUDA unlocked and allow custom models for 700-750$.
In that case EVGA will make master peace of card, now their hands are tied and only could find board with chips capable to install Superclocked BIOS. And that's something because nobody other is brave enough to do that.
But if NVIDIA cut few CUDA ... no thanks.

I would really like the 980 Ti for $600-$650 with 6GB VRAM and 10% slower than Titan X.  I guess I will wait until June/July to decide my next card.

Faster than Titan X but cheaper?  Doesn't sound like nVidia...

Same here, it will be the first time in it would be almost 20yrs, but i'm no damm, fanboy idiot. I will go with only the Best GPU for the best Price and Performance, along with what has the most Vram as well. IF old ATI, as I call it has what i want with the 390X and is cheaper, I will switch to AMD/ATI.

I switched from ATI to Nvidia a long time ago because Nvidia had the best Drivers/Upkeep for their GPUs. When i switched, I was hooked on Nvidia. But Maybe ATI/AMD is better with Drivers/Upkeep with their GPUs now. I don't know.

And I hate using the name AMD, for me it will always be ATI, eck.

    EVGA doesn't set NVidia prices.

I'm well aware.. I just said I don't see that price point working with how EVGA tiers their cards. However it should be a decent indicator that it won't come in that low.

I think before they release a 980 Ti they will most likely release a 990. If you look back at the 780 Ti it was a fully unlocked carded with more cuda cores (if I remember correctly) compared to the 780. But that's not the case with the 980. I don't think they will just add ram and call it the 980 Ti.

No on 990 for a variety of good reasons, they've been out of the "dual separate GPUs on one PCB" business for a long time now and have no desire to return to it.

And 780 Ti was simply a cut down Titan Black, albeit in reverse production order/launch dates, which is likely what's going to happen again this time: 980 Ti = Cut down Titan X.

Too many new leaks/rumors the past few weeks from multiple sources all pointing that direction.
