They could do that to try to capture more market share. Or they could wait to distribute the card after they see what AMD does and price accordingly. Or they could....

MUGEN02 GTX 980 Ti? http://forums.evga.com/GTX-980-Ti-m2313922-p4.aspx I'm waiting for the 980 Ti Hydrocopper.
That thread is old as dirt. BTW 980 TI launches in less than 2 weeks http://wccftech.com/nvidi...0-ti-specs-benchmarks/ Specification and performance numbers have just been leaked for Nvidia's GTX 980Ti, and to say the least we are pleasantly surprised by them. According to the leaks from VideoCardz Nvidia's GTX 980Ti will be a cut down version of the GTX Titan X, as was expected, but it is not as cut down as we initially expected. Nvidia have only disabled one SMX unit from their GM 200 GPU core and halved the GPUs memory, meaning that this GPU should lean more towards the Titan X than the GTX 980 in performance terms. With one less SMX unit the GTX 980Ti will have 256 less CUDA cores than the Titan X and 768 more CUDA cores than the GTX 980. Right now we do not know that price of this monster GPU from Nvidia, but if it is $750, which is just about half way between the GTX Titan X and the GTX 980, it will pretty much render the GTX Titan X redundant as a purchase unless you really need those 12GB of VRAM. In terms of performance the GTX 980Ti will perform almost identically to the Titan X, making me think that Ti should stand for "Titan Irrelevant" rather than anything else. Right now we do not know if Nvidia have disabled any ROP units on the GTX 980Ti, like they did on the GTX 970, so right now we cannot confirm if it suffers from the same memory issues. Right now the GTX 980 "Titan Irrelevant" looks like a really great deal, but until Nvidia release the cards pricing and we can confirm all of this information for ourselves this should be considered nothing but a rumor.

Can't wait to see what AMD has to offer. NVIDIA releasing 980 Ti before AMD releases 390x. Something is up.

That is a good point. Wonder if AMD is gonna pull a rabbit out of their hat, competition is good for the industry (I'm a fan/customer/builder/enthusiast myself) and now I am more curious to what the 390x is going to be able to do.

It could mean that the 390X kicks so much ass that they want to get as many 980ti sales as posible before the 390X takes that price range over

^Wow, if that info is remotely true then congrats to whoever had the patience to wait out for this beast (although some will still give beef about how 6GB VRAM is still not enough). Question now is, who's still biting on this if it ends up being much over $700?

Seeing as i only just got a 980ftw last week and its giving me trouble already (blackscreen). I am happy to step up as soon as possible. Also, i don't think its gonna be over 700$. Its meant to steal the thunder from amd's fiji release and at that price point they probably would achieve the contrary.

^ Seconded on all the people saying they want a Hybrid & Hyrdo version of the 980 TI. Specifically do this before other manufacturers can design custom coolers, and offer a step-up for people who bought the 980-Hybrid ... and those who decide that it's not enough (even if it has a few hundred $ price premium to upgrade). I'm pretty sure people would be praising EVGA for it. If nothing else, EVGA would be dominating the market by massive margins. The 980 Hybrid is probably the coolest concept in the videocard industry right now (no pun intended), and they're pretty much the only manufacturer offering such products. For that matter, EVGA really 'NEEDS' to offer such a card every generation from now on. They will probably push change in the market of future videocards if they keep up the trend. Some form of liquid cooling should become the norm for enthusiasts. EDIT: While air coolers are nice and I certainly don't think the ACX cooler is bad by any means, there's just too much heat to remove from the chassis in SLI. By high-end cards like these, the market is going to be ALOT of those considering SLI or trying to drive 4K displays or 144hz 1440p gaming. So, it's pretty much reference coolers, AIO's, or a custom liquid loop as truly suitable choices.

According to other posts here EVGA already has an ACX 2.0 and Hybrid kit fitted for the Titan X. Both are due out this month. The 980 Ti should use the same PCB as the Titan X. I am going to be optimistic that EVGA will have ACX 2.0 and Hybrid cards ready to go on launch day (and that they are available for Step-Up ).

I do have to give congratulations though on Nvidia releasing the 900 series while AMD messed around with the XBox and PS4. Well played. Even if people don't approve of their marketing schemes, they played this one right behind AMD's back. Edit : I'm sure you all saw that too.

I think it uses the same PCB as the Titan X, which would make that a yes. I have a feeling that EVGA will have a Hybrid version available on day one following the announcement as well as one with the ACX cooler being immediately available. I don't think they made that just for the Titan X or the AIO just for the 980 Hybrid, do you? Of course, the real cards to see will be those that have the upgraded PCBs.
