The card is now on stock @ ALTERNATE.de for 849 EURO.

Almost $925 US? No thanks, don't need it that bad.

So I was bored and feeling a bit disappointed that I haven't really done much to improve the overclocks on my PC considering I now have a new HAF X ugly as sin case.
Well guess what? I bumped some more volts into my processor and hit 4.6 Gigawatts! Processor remained at 70 C tops with only a single bump to 80 C during physics test on Core 2. All other cores were 68-70 C. I say dayem son that is tight.

So I run the marks and I wanted to do the following:
Firestrike break 18K with a single card Firestrike extreme break 9K with a single card Firestrike ultra break 5K with a single card
Well I got 2/3. I think I can bump my processor to about 4.7 Giga with 1.32 volts. Currently it is at 4.6 Giga with 1.3 volts.

Here are the results.

Oh by the way. My card is now stable at 1502/7200 clocks so I also finally am stable at that level with a modest fan curve. The card never went past 66 C during the benches. I am in ****ing love with this setup.

That's warning for amateurs. You will not burn card if you pay attention.
Some risk always persist, chance to someone burn card with Precision X only is minimal, you can burn card and with stock voltage, and that's risk.
They are build to work on higher voltage than reference cards.
One thing is very important, good cooling. People cross from reference models on fabric overclocked and think they will work and overclock same as reference and expect same temperatures, but they forget on 150-200MHz higher clock from start... +190 GPU Clock from start in this case.
Imagine card with some dual cooler and you increase slide on +190, that's default for Classified models.

You can't think on 4K with single card. Even TITAN X overclocked 200MHz will not help you much.
You will not have playable fps in some games. Now everybody talk about 4K mostly to present that card have enough video memory.
At least GTX980Ti SLI for 4K. GTX980Ti is card excellent for 2560x1440p, same as single TITAN X.
In some game older you can play and 4K without filters but not in all new games with high and ultra textures.

I will be getting two Classifieds for 4K, might even get three, depends on what DirectX 12 does in games.

It will be a while though before game developers code for DX12. In addition DX12 is only available on Windows 10.

I have a 200 mm fan blowing air on its ass. Something that wasn't possible with the 650D. Previously my card was hovering around 75-80 C. Now it runs between 65-70 C so can get some extra boost. I also gave it about +25 mV since the temperatures were under control now rather than hitting 80+C with my previous setup. Finally fixing the fan curve to a bit more aggressive one than before. Got it running that far.

So you are definitely sure that the 980 ti classy is worthless on air? really? the 980 classy went up to 1650 in some tests (with 1.35 volts though) with temp increases of only 2 °C compared to stock clock and left every other card behind in terms of OC Potential... why even place such a huge cooler on the card when it is worthless? that doesn't make any sense to me :-/

I am German and for example on our page hardwareluxx the 980 ti strix was reviewed and overclocked to 1545 mhz. G1 gamings are also reaching 1500+ in nearly every single review... (both cards WITHOUT a mod bios!)

I am getting serious doubts if I should buy a classy. I do not wanna use watercooling for my gpus. I know it is still the silicon lottery but with so many of you complaining here and not getting much higher than 1500 I am not sure if I should buy one :-(

Classified cards are best on air if someone use some kind of bench table open completely.
Than cards will not be hot at all.
If someone have case better to stay on fabric clock until replace cooler with some waterblock.
That's my advice.

Since no one else has, I figure I'd post a high-resolution naked picture of the GTX980Ti Classified. So here you go!

The GTX980 classified waterblock from EKWB should fit. There is ONE screw post on the bottom of the block (the one just past the back of the PCI-e connector) that will probably need to be shortened or milled off completely in order to not interfere with a chip, since they moved the screw hole 1" to the left on the Ti version. I'm going to try it later today and I'll post back my results. Obviously, milling off things to make it fit isn't for everybody, but hopefully this can also give a better picture to EKWB to visually verify that it'll work with the 780 blocks, since who knows when they'll get a physical copy.

According to EKWB, 780 ti Classy block Fits the 980 ti Classy (based on visual)

The 980 Classy Does not fit the 980 ti Classy

The 980 Ti Classified KPE Does not fit the EK-FC980 GTX Classy KPE

Again, I am just quoting EK reps on this topic.

I was lucky enough to grab one Classy on the recent NewEgg restock waiting for it to arrive!

akira749

Nihaan980 Classified waterblock wouldnt fit to this card because of the memory right ?

Different PCB layout so...not compatible

akira749
Yes based on the PCB layouts, the 780 Classy block is compatible with the 980 Ti Classified! The confirmation is only visual at the moment but we should have a physical sample of the card soon to physically test it.

For those who already own the blocks and are ready to switch their 700 series for the 900 series, you can also confirm here if they fit too

EK_tiborrr
980 Ti Classified KPE does not fit the EK-FC980 GTX Classy KPE at all. Different beast.

Re: GTX 980 TI Classified 2015/07/17 18:25:41 (permalink)
Good news, everybody! With minimal effort the GTX980 classified block WILL fit the 980ti Classified.

Caveats:
  1. I had to remove one of the mounting posts on the back of the waterblock. It's the one just behind the PCI-e connector. The good news is that those posts unscrew from the plate, so I didn't have to break out the mill!
  2. The memory isn't completely covered. It's close, though, and eventually I might just get a piece of thin copper sheet to create a small "connecting" plate, but for right now, it's good enough. See here:
  3. I had to use the backplate that comes with the 980ti Classified 2. The 980 classy backplate will definitely not work without some millwork. However, it cost me about $2 to get six 3mm x 8mm screws and two 3mm nuts, and it mounted right up.
Is it perfect? No. But it saves me $150 to order another waterblock (assuming we can find one that fits it 100%), and the 980 classy block extends out to cover those extra chips near the outside edge. Mine hits 42C running furmark with a 125MHz offset on the GPU clock, and idles at 28C with KBoost enabled to keep it at max clocks. I haven't really tried pushing it yet, but that's next.

My ASIC is 75.0%, by the way.

Do you happen to have thermometer gun laying around to measure VRAM temps?

Thanks!

My continuous pursuit of the elusive 5K in Firestrike ultra continued as I looked towards Kingpin and his bios. His bios does one thing that my card was struggling with. Peg the voltage to 1.212 to a monkey's bottom. Fired up his bios and ramped up the clocks to 1524/7366.
Card remained at 65-66C during benching. No change in temperatures whatsoever. However, the throttling is gone.
And guess what...
I hit ****ing 5K... on AIR COOLING.

67% ASIC on my Classified and it makes coil whine, too!  I've gone through two G1's already, both hit 1490-1510, but had terrible whine.  This Classified whine isn't as bad, but it still buzzes.  Is it my PSU (also EVGA) that is causing the whine?

Either way, very disappointed in the Classified.  Can't get above 1480 without crashes, even using Kingpin's 141% power limit.  Temps never go above 70C.  If I knew this was going to buzz, too, I would have just kept my G1.

67% ASIC on my Classified..............

Might have slightly something to do about not going over 1480MHz.
