I am having some issues with my 980 SC. Here are my specs

4770k
MSI z87GD65 motherboard
Corsair H750 PSU
4K Samsung monitor

Here are my problems.

Random flickers on mostly the lower half of the screen. This happens all the time if im in game or not. If i up or down my closk. Is it because of 4k?

More importantly i am having problems on diablo. Anything from App freezes for like 10 seconds and keep going. App crash entirely. My computer crashes off the face of the earth. Yesterday i had one moment of random checkerboarding. One trigger for an app crash is when i exit a diablo 3 room and go back into menu. It would sometimes crash immediately upon hitting the quit button.

I also ran bf4 for an hour with no issues.
I ran unigine heaven for many hours with no issues
I ran furmark ok.

I ran unigine valley and that would sometimes lock up. One time i had a driver crash and recovery message. One time it crashed my whole computer. Yesterday i ran it for 3 hours fine.

I really dont want to deal with RMA. It seems everyone is having these problems. Is it really the card? Did EVGA bin all the SC versions poorly? Or is it just drivers and BIOS. Maybe the card doesnt like getting throttled. I need to test more on a 4k and with downclocks. I was about to slap a waterblock on it too. This is just sad

Hi and welcome to the forums!

First off please stop using Furmark. It's an old program no longer relevant to testing GPU's these days. Both Nvidia and AMD consider it a power virus and it's treated as such through the drivers.

    Have you tried 3D Mark?
Is this a new build or did you just swap Gpus recently? Do you have another GPU to test? What app(s) are you using to monitor your card?

I used GPUz and Percision to monitor my card.

i just swapped the video card. I came from an AMD 7970 which was rock stable.

I did do a fresh install of windows because i screwed something up which was completely unrelated.

No i have not tried 3DMark. I will try to bump up the power and fan speed to see if that helps. I noticed the card maxes out and throttles extremely easily, likely because im benching at 4k. I was mostly alarmed when diablo 3 had problems because that game is not that demanding.... at all.

Since so many people have similar problems, how many people actually have a 980 SC that is working flawlessly?. Would i be able to get an ideal replacement card or does this problem happen across the board?

The only issues that I've seen popping up about the gtx 980 SC's is that the power limit is a bit low, try increasing it to 115% and monitor the power usage though precision to see if that's causing it to throttle, the only things that will make the card throttle are temps and its power limit.

If there is only a problem with a single game, then it could be a game/driver problem and have nothing to do with the video card. Personally I have a gtx 980 overclocked past SC numbers and its running perfectly.

Why are you against an RMA?  I opened an RMA for my GTX 980 SC, that has coil whine. The process couldn't have been easier.  I'm getting the new card tomorrow and already have a return shipping label for my card.

Well whats if this is a driver problem and not an issue with the card, then RMA'ing the card is just a waste of time and it will not fix the problem. But yes, Evga does have nice support.

Uninstalling PhysX seemed to cure my Surround stability issues.

Might be drivers at this point. I am using 344.11 drivers and I have gone 3 hours of benching without a crash. Seems promising.

Seems suspicious when it wasn't stable even after reducing clocks speeds and increasing TDP.
It didn't feel like I got a broken chip either because it only crashes in Unigine Valley and Diablo.

So it seems problem solved.... for now.
