Hello, In my opinion the BIOS of the superclocked edition of the 980 SC is completely broken and not adapted to the higher clocks at all. Proof: This shows that you have to manually increase the Power Limit in Afterburner to achieve the advertised Boost clock in most scenarios. In this case I tested Far Cry 4 which showed me an actual max TDP of almost 115%. Without the change in Afterburner the card would achieve a much lower clock speed because of hitting the TDP limit very early. (I had core clocks around 1250 MHz before tweaking the card) I think this should be fixed ASAP because it is kind of useless to buy an advertised "factory overclocked" card which is extremely limited by the TDP limit...

I have a GTX 980 SC and I easily get 1500+MHz from the boost clock when I set the power power slider to 120% in precision X, even without that it reaches it's boost clock just fine. I don't think it's a problem with the series in general, you may just have a card that's struggling?

I had the same problem, though not quite that bad. I hit ~1335MHz out of the box. Turning up the power target allowed the card to boost to ~1380MHz, like yours. 1.000V though? My stock voltage was 1.225V, 1.000V seems like it can't be right. What does Afterburner say?

Wait but how you test card when she hit 115% TDP. I mean application, Kombustor, Unigine Heaven, Furmark, 3DMark or games? In Kombustor, Furmark than it's not so bad, if that happen in 3DMark or some other benchmark test than it's not nice situation. You have guaranteed boost clock in GPU-Z and in some application as EVGA OC Scanner, Kombustor, Furmark card should boost minimum on that clock. But in games and other benchmark test TDP should allow MAX possible boost.

Are we talking about the SC ACX 2.0? I have OC to 1580 boost?

The fans are designed NOT to spin until the card reaches something like 60C. You may only see temps like that in the dead of Summer when temps are really high. Mine never passes 55C

I'd recommend starting another thread, this one is old and your issue is different. Bobmitch is right though, fans will spin or not based off your temps and it may even take a little bit more than 60C for them to start up.

My 970 idles while playing ARMA3 at 20fps and other games. RIP (I'm going through an RMA). But then agiain, it idles at ~937mhz which is high compared to the normal ~150mhz. The reason I bring this up is because it shows that the card does what it wants. If it wants to boost then it will boost. If it's not boosting, then reinstall drivers (etc) and RMA the card as a last option.

What games are you playing and they are not spinning? I have the same card. In witcher 3 it boosts to 1535MHZ 99% GPU 1.7GB mem. Geting max 78fps outside.

Arma 3 is a very CPU intensive game, not very GPU, granted a CPU bound game can sometimes sit at a low enough load level that the GPU does ramp up to full speed. Have you tried Going Nvidia Control Panel - Manage 3D Settings - Global Settings - Power management Mode - set it to "Prefer maximum Performance" I do this with my setup, as I have several games that will use 30% or less of my graphics card, won't ramp it up and the games runs sub 30 FPS, make the setting change I recommended, it ramps up and I see depending on the game (and how well it uses SLI) between 70 and 130+ FPS. Blizzard games are notorious for this as well. Do you see this issue outside of Arma? Specifically something a lot more GPU based, even a benchmark like Valley as that will put some real load onto GPU and make it ramp up as long as it is still power temp target. If this does not ramp anywhere and these issues are consistent everywhere I strongly recommend contacting support, our turn around time for RMA and support emails is very low and the average wait time for a call to service is also VERY low. No reason to let the card be dead and buy a new one when you can get it replaced under warranty.

Watch the temp under load the fans don't kick on to 60-70c. Use the OSD from precision and monitor the temp under load. If it kicks on between 60-70c and is off the rest of the time, it is running as intended. The zero RPM fan option just keeps everything quieter in your system. If you prefer to NOT have it run like that, you can always run a fan profile in Precision which will override the Firmware driven profile.
