I have (well, had) 4 GTX-980 Classified and had to return 2 of them (still have 2). Want to get a few more but NewEgg is out of stock - had a bad experience w/ them. I don't see them on Amazon, TigerDirect or anywhere else. I called and they said the don't know if that item will be in stock. Really? So the production of the GTX-980 Classified has already stopped? That means a GTX-980 Ti (or Ti-type) card is imminent. Can someone from EVGA confirm whether or not more GTX-980 Classifieds will be produced or be in stock?

No, they just haven't been able to keep up with demand. So, more than likely, someone meant they don't know when they will be back in Stock.
They didn't stop making 780 classifieds when the 780ti Classified came out.

It also requires use of a different BIOS, so it is not recommended to Flash any BIOS that was designed for the other part number. Lastly both are compatible with SLI.

Jacob, Are the back plates still compatible with this new 980 Classified ? EVGA EVGA GTX 980 Classified Backplate Cooling 100-BP-2987-B9 I already have two ordered and now I have two 980 classifieds ordered as well from EVGA P/N: 04G-P4-3988-KR , so I am concerned about what type of change was made. Some clarification as to what changed on the VRAM would be appreciated. Lastly, will this card (P/N: 04G-P4-3988-KR) be added to the free game promotion? Thank you, Phill~

I just ordered one! My first post here. I normally buy from Newegg (I sure hope we get the free game like we would have on Newegg) and get free shipping (was $708.23 via cheapest shipping option = UPS Ground), but wanted this card so bad I kept scoping out these forums. Glad I did, as Auto-Notify was an Epic Fail (guessing because product number changed). Would like to order a compatible backplate as well. Seems to be out of stock everywhere. Can't wait to get this card!

This is quite interesting - so when you say 'both are compatible with SLI', do you mean that I can use the 'older' card (2988) with this new one (3988) and SLI them and it should work without issue? How would the different BIOS on each card affect OC'ing ability and stability in general? Anyway, are these 'new' versions going to be available on Amazon or TigerDirect? I want to get two, but I'm apprehensive since I have this nagging feeling that some new but yet unannounced card is around the corner - a la GTX-980 Ti or the new Titan X (or Titan II) w/ 8GB VRAM. Can you tell me whether there is a Ti in the works and if so, when the purported release date is? If you can't say exactly, can you give me a reasonable hint?

From what I understand, it was just simply a component change. Probably due to more availability of the VRM components on the newer P/N, but don't quote me on that. For that, the card would need a different BIOS, reflecting the different VRM components. The cards will still work perfectly fine in SLI, but you don't want to flash one BIOS to the other, as there will probably be an issue due to a component mis-match. Any difference in overclocking would likely be just the same differences you would normally have between cards - quality of the chips. The new P/N is not expected to be better or worse for overclocking; as stated, performance and OC remain identical. As for hints, Jacob won't really say anything until Nvidia officially announces new products.

Pretty much. I mean, there are exceptions, like if there's something new within a week of purchase, but waiting months for something new still means there will be something new in the next few months after that.

Non-disclosure Agreements don't allow "reasonable hints" or purported release dates, lol. Nice try though. I'll give you a B for effort.

Viking396 Just ordered the Classified GTX 980 P4-3988-KR (showed up on EVGA and Newegg's website a few minutes ago), my 1st one was a P4-2988-KR, EVGA support swears the two will play nice in SLI, I forgot to ask if the fancy SLI bridges that light up nice will work on these new cards as they are not listed as compatible on the EVGA website.
Sli bridges do light up, but thats all, no other control options work / at this time
As long as they work and light up, it's all good. Newegg is already out of these cards, wow.
Still available on here, though. Everyone's on the auto-notify list for the FTW i bet.
