Hello all,
This is my first post on EVGA. Yay!

I have an issue with my new EVGA GTX 970 SC ACX 2.0 and I'm hoping someone can help me figure out what's wrong. After installation, it runs 3 monitors just fine, it renders complex video in Premiere just fine, and it stress tests fine with OC Scanner. But as soon as I load a game and get past the loading screen, it shuts my computer down within 5 seconds of actual gameplay. The menu and loading screens work fine but once it enters gameplay, it cuts my computer off almost immediately and reboots. It's not a heat issue because it shuts off too quickly to get hot. You may say it's a problem with the card, but this is the second GTX 970 SC that I've tried. The first one was bought used on eBay by a guy who says he didn't have this issue. I returned it on the grounds of being defective, and my 2nd 970 SC was bought new on NewEgg and I have the exact same problem. Before I returned the eBay card, I did a clean install of Windows 7 Pro to make sure incompatible drivers or other programs/settings weren't causing an issue. So that's two GTX 970 SC's tested on a clean install of Windows. All my Nvidia drivers are up to date and I've tried rolling them back to previous dates as well.

My relevant specs are:
Windows 7 Pro
ASRock Z97 Extreme6 mobo
i7-4790K - Corsair Hydro H60
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 32GB
Diablotek 750 watt PSU
WD Black HDD

Only games tested (all crashing):
COD Advanced Warfare
The Amazing Spiderman
Gone Home

Has anyone ever had this issue before??? I've researched online and found a few similar cases that were addressed with an RMA, but this is my 2nd try already. I put my EVGA GTX 480 SC back in for the time being, and it plays games just fine and runs hotter than the GTX 970 SC ACX 2.0 ever would.

Thanks for any help!

Have you tested your PSU 12v?

    I've never tested my PSU...how?

I do plan to install my friend's 750 watt PSU just to see if that will work. But I don't know how to test the PSU I have currently.

I'm almost willing to bet its the card you got from new egg. if you returned the first card to EVGA through RMA process you probably would have got a good card. There most likely are older cards still being sold on new egg and other sites as well.

Have you tried any game benchmarks?  If the crash happens with them as well I would think it was a PSU problem.  You could also try hardware monitor and leave it open while doing a few things that wont make the computer crash and check the minimum voltage.  A lot of PSU testers are pretty cheap and handy to have if you like to upgrade/work on computers.

This is what you should do first. Try another PSU and if it works then you can buy another PSU or send the one you have back to the manufacturer if under warranty.

    It's probably the PSU (90%).

Thanks for the help everyone. I tried a game bench and it crashed just like real gameplay. Turns out my friend won't be able to allow me to test his power supply anytime soon, so I went ahead and bought an EVGA Gold-rated fully modular 650 watt PSU from NewEgg that will hopefully arrive soon. I'll give an update once I can install it.

This has to be the most frustrating upgrade I've ever done!

Just a FYI, you can get a PSU voltage tester for under $20
