GTX 970 SC ACX 1.0 sli arrived but fan speed is maxed no matter what I set?

Just got my pair of evga gtx 970 sc  acx 1.0 cards in SLI (didn't even know they were selling a 1.0 and 2.0 /sigh, but that's a whole 'nother annoyance... I thought they only were making a 2.0).... and they are stuck at maximum fan speed with the 344.11 whql drivers installed and newest afterburner. Even setting them to minimum fan speed, maximum, nothing is changing their noise level or speed despite the RPM reading changing. At 39% both tachometers read as about 1330rpm, and there is a noise increase if I change it to 100% but only a slight one.

    Double check that your PCI-e power cables are connected all the way in.  Loose connections will do that.

    yeah it's annoying to found out later that eVGA is making 2 different editions ACX1.0 and ACX2.0 cards. SIGH...And I've already purchased 2 cards from amazon and they're both ACX1.0 cards.
     
    And please free backplates for us!!!

    Double check that your PCI-e power cables are connected all the way in.  Loose connections will do that.


     
    Hey,
    I did make sure they were in properly and even swapped what cables were being used from the PSU on each card but unfortunately it is one defective fan (not even both) on one of the two cards :)... confirmed it by stopping the fans individually with a finger on the hub one at a time (four fans, stopping just one specifically stopped the huge noise level). Got an RMA set up so I'll have to "live" (I'll be suffering horribly, I'm sure.... /sarcasm) with one for now until the replacement for the 2nd arrives. Thanks for the post though, it is appreciated.

    Can you comment on the noise of the card in idle/load? (with the working card)
     
    The reviews i've seen are for the ACX 2.0 version, and these say it is loud. So just wondering as the ACX 1.0 version is the only one availible in my country.

    Well at least you purchased two so your system won't be down. +1 for SLI

    The only version I've seen so far is v1.0, the original. Looks like we'll have to wait for v2.0.

    Can you uninstall afterburner and instead install the latest version of EVGA Precision and see what happens.
