I just upgraded to a GTX970 FTW edition from my old GTX660 that was playing up.

I used to get a steady 84 FPS when I played iRacing (only game I play) and with this new card I am getting dips down to 65 on the same track with no cars around.

My system is:
FX6300 clocked to 4.3
Gigabyte 990 motherboard
16 gig of ram
1000 watt power supply.

i did a fresh install of windows and there is nothing else on the system apart from windows, evga software and my wheel software.

Any help would be great.

Well, it's possible you changed the settings on the game from medium to ultra which would explain the drop. Another thing is you have have vSync on which would make a maximum FPS of ~60 for fan noise reduction. The other thing is it's possible that it's just such an old game, you know... But why pay $350 if you were all ready getting 84FPS?

Both where played on ultra setting. Vsync is off with both due to input lag.

I upgraded as I was handing down my GPU to my daughter.

    Great reason to upgrade.

What is your gpu usage at?

Could you go into the Nvidia control panel, go to settings then use the drop down from the global settings and select iRacing, and change performance to maximum instead of adaptive? This should force the gpu to play the game at max settings possible just in case the gpu is slightly done clocking due to load.

    GPu usage is around 50%.

Will try that with the in the control panel, just a question will that cause input lag at all?

Should not cause any lag or anything like that.
