Hey guys, I've seen a whole load of people having different issues with black or blank screens but none seem to be quite like mine, I received my EVGA GTX 970 SC ACX 2.0 today and updated my bios, uninstalled my previous drivers and basically took all the steps I needed to take when upgrading a graphics card (I've done this many times before)
However when booting up, everything powers on and my monitor shows some kind of reaction, it lights up but simply stays blank/black. If I replace the GTX 970 with my older GTX 670 I can get into the bios and windows just fine.
My motherboard is a ASROCK Z77 extreme 6 on the latest bios.
I really appreciate any help as I've spent around 8 hours trying to get to the bottom of the problem now, thanks!

You mentioned flashing the bios. Did the 970 work prior to the flash?

Thanks for the reply, No it didn't. I updated the bios after first noticing the problem. The latest bios is from 2013 but I've seen multiple people running a 970 on the same motherboard just fine, I'm stumped.

Please post your system specs. Also, have you tried any other dvi cables?

Win 7 64 Intel 3570K Was overclocked at 4.6 ghz but that's gone now as I've reset the bios. ASROCK Z77 Extreme 6 Corsair AX 750 16GB Vengeance DDR3 1600MHZ RAM 120gb OCZ Vertex 3 ssd I've tried multiple DVI cables, even tried HDMI and VGA all with the exact same problem.

This might be dumb but make sure the card is all the way in the pci ex1 slot. I've rushed a card in one time and didn't get it all the way in same thing happened to me. Also, make sure the dvi cable is all the way in the dvi on the vid card. I know you probably did I am just putting it out there because my dvi cable was difficult to plug into the card the first few times. If your other vid card works you might have a doa 970. I've read that the 970's are having issues with the z77 and z87 boards as well. I would rma the card or if you have access to another pc you can always see if it works on another system.

Have you tried resetting the cmos? Is the card running in the very first PCI-E x16 slot?

Yeah I've tried resetting the cmos and the card is in the correct slot, seated in there securely and the dvi cable is connected securely, exactly the same way my 670 was which is working fine still. I have noticed one thing, when booting with integrated graphics and looking in device manager I can see the card with a little yellow error triangle. I tried installing the latest Nvidia drivers from this point and it's now listed as a GTX 970 however it still has the little triangle, going into the properties it states this: "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" Any ideas?

Code 43 usually means the card is busted. Test it in another machine to verify. Since you just received the card today you will more than likely receive a brand new one from EVGA when RMA'ing it. EVGA gives brand new replacements for cards RMA'd within the first 30 days.

Upon calling the retailer (scan.co.uk) They are asking me to reinstall windows before I can RMA it, will post back with results from a fresh copy of windows.

Go back into device manager and right click on the GTX 970 driver and click uninstall. Then check the box that says "Delete the driver software for this device." then go into programs and uninstall everything Nvidia. Download the latest driver from Nvidia which is currently 344.75 and install and do a "CLEAN INSTALL". Leave everything unchecked for the install except Graphics Driver and PhysX Driver software.

Oh and also delete Evga Precision X if you have that installed as an overclock program because that is causing issues currently with Nvidia cards. I was black screening as well.

Unfortunately I've tried all of these solutions, I can't even get to the bios with this card and have to use my onboard graphics. I've now attempted reinstalling windows as the retailer suggested, however it seems to be completely refusing to reinstall now, hitting me with a whole host of different issues, could this be a problem with my motherboard underneath everything? It's an ASROCK Z77 Extreme 6, I did suffer from a corrupt bios once before, however i replaced the chip and have recently successfully updated to the latest bios version.
