The EVGA GeForce GTX 960 delivers incredible performance, power efficiency, and gaming technologies that only NVIDIA Maxwell technology can offer. This is the perfect upgrade, offering 60% faster performance and twice the power efficiency of previous-generation cards*. Plus, it features VXGI for realistic lighting, support for smooth, tear-free NVIDIA G-SYNC technology, and Dynamic Super Resolution for 4K-quality gaming on 1080P displays.
The new EVGA ACX 2.0+ cooler brings new features to the award winning EVGA ACX 2.0 cooling technology. A Memory MOSFET Cooling Plate (MMCP) reduces MOSFET temperatures up to 11°C, and optimized Straight Heat Pipes (SHP) reduce GPU temperature by an additional 5°C. ACX 2.0+ coolers also feature optimized Swept fan blades, double ball bearings and an extreme low power motor, delivering more air flow with less power, unlocking additional power for the GPU.

I like how the $200 960 ACX+ gets a better PCB and cooler than the first $380 970 FTW.

The fan shroud looks good. EVGA cards definitely look the nicest of all the company's. Backplate?

I addressed this in the other thread you felt like sharing.

If you seriously expect them to not apply updates as users demand them, then you are seriously mislead. Get over the updates and be happy they are trying to make them better. They applied the updates to the ftw+ so they shouldn't have applied them to an even newer card? That is seriously flawed thinking. Just stop.

I guess I just wish that they hadn't tried to cheap out on the components of the 970 so much so that it required the many updates. It's not like EVGA is new to the concept of making a GPU not be starved for power. They didn't learn how to make a good PCB for the first time with the FTW+, they just learned that their cost cutting attempts weren't worth the backlash. I'm posting to applaud them for not attempting to cut costs so heavily this time, and also to make it clear that it's not all forgive and forget as I will still have to pay $30+ to actually get the decent PCB/bios. If their entire customer base only praised them for fixing their willful mistake of cheeping out on the 970 PCB, then they won't have any reason not to try it again in the future.

Anyway, I've said my piece and I assume you've said or will say yours so I won't attempt to take this any further off topic.

Looks like the 960 has only 3 VRAM chips on a 128bit bus. I think that will require different sized chips to have that add up like the old 192 bit 2gb 660. I don't know why Nvidia would've chosen to do that as they have a nice even bus width to work with on this card, unlike the 660 where they wanted to hit 2gb without a 256bit bus. The 660 design saved them die space on the GPU by not needing to go up to a 256bit bus, but as far as I can tell this is only saving them the price of 1 VRAM chip going with 3 instead of 4. There's surely more to it, but I'm interested to find out what that is. Maybe Anandtech will go in depth on that.

Hopefully we get some good details and I would be surprised to see a 4gb version of the 960 later in life. They did the same thing with the 760s, 2 and 4gb versions.

I just wonder how they perform with the 128bit bus and maxwell architecture.

Its to expensive and doesnt perform much better than gtx 760 / r9 280
Its a shame. I guess there will be a GTX 960 Ti.

Thought the performance should be like the gtx 770 !

I guess energy saving would be the big thing? Has there been numbers put of for how the power consumption is compared to the 760? They are meant to be mainstream, so I can still see a lot of people buying them because the number in the name got bigger. (not joking about that at all, sadly)

Grumble, a slight step back from the 760's. The 960's are only 2 way SLI compatible where the 760's were 3 way SLI compatible. On the EVGA side of things I understand that 3 way SLI probably wasn't a high demand item for the x60 series of GPU's, so why include it.

The EVGA 960 superclocked, not the ACX SuperSC mind you, is already nearly the same size as an ITX mobo (960 is 172.72mm compared to ITX mobo of 170mm). You won't see any smaller than that I would imagine.

i don't think EVGA makes those decisions, that'll be Nvidia's call to make.

    660 is the predecessor, not 760.  Compare GM206 to GK106, not GK104.

Any reviews of the 960SC or info on the fan speeds? Looks nice but looks can be deceiving, I definitely don't want another noisy low tdp card after owning the 750Ti SC

    Clean power?

    Who knows.

It seems some will be able to replace the 750ti for very little extra cost. I see it selling well since most reviews are showing it performs on par with the 760 with lower power requirements.

If an enthusiast isn't impressed, they probably shouldn't be look at it anyway. It is cheaper than the 760 was at launch by a few dollars and performs the same.

Some are reporting +200mhz overclocks already with others showing +300 mhz, and since overclocking these for a cheap price tag will be looked into, I see it going well for some, and nearly 35% less than the cheapest 970.

Users NEED to remember, this is aimed at 1080p, NOT 1440 or 4K.

Yeah, I'm looking for the Super Clocked model (single fan, with 6-pin) and I can't find it anywhere either? I emailed customer service and they were extremely perfunctory in their answer, to the point of making me think they didn't even know what I was asking.

Hey Scarlet-Tech, would these be around the same performance as the 04G-P4-2983-KR  980S? I have two on order, currently using 780's in sli superclocked ones.  Looking to upgrade but want to make sure I'm making the right move.

I do not think these will. Let me grab you a good reference video. Pauls Hardware does an excellent job presenting these cards...

Watch "GTX 960 SLI: Is It Worth It?" on YouTube
GTX 960 SLI: Is It Worth It?: http://youtu.be/_9N8HJ2eWN4

At 1080p, which is the only thing the 960 is aimed at, not even 1440p should be considered, two of these seem to be able to perform on par with a single 980.

If you already have 780s, I suggest either stay with them, or sell them and get a single 980, which will allow you to upgrade in the future, while not being necessary as soon..
