Hi all,

I'm not sure if this has been asked / discussed before, but I just want to ask why the 900 series is more expensive in Europe compared to prices in USA?

I don't know why or if there are some special policies or agreements, that's why I'm asking. Maybe there is something I don't know or need to know, like shipping costs or taxes.

Thanks for the help.

From EVGA sites:
USA: GTX 980 -  (04G-P4-2980-KR) = 549.99USD (ref / stock)
                         (04G-P4-2983-KR) = 569.99USD (SC / ACX)
                         (04G-P4-2982-KR) = 569.99USD (SC)
        GTX 970 -  (04G-P4-0972-KR) = 329.99USD (ACX)
                     -  (04G-P4-0974-KR) = 339.99USD (SC / ACX)

EU:   GTX 980 - (04G-P4-2982-KR) = 562.90 Euro (SC)    = 722.26USD (Googled it)   722.26-569.99 = 152.27USD!
                        (04G-P4-2980-KR) = 542.90 Euro (ref / stock) = 696.59USD      696.59-549.99 = 146.6USD!

         *GTX 970 - (04G-P4-0974-KR) = 335.9 Euro (SC / ACX)    = 430.99USD      430.99-339.99 = 91USD!
                      - (04G-P4-0972-KR) = 324.9 Euro (ACX)          =  416.88USD       416.88-329.99 = 86.89USD!

*I did not include in the list the other SKUs in the US list as there are plenty of them and only 2 SKUs are available in EU.

Probably has to do something with customs duty and VAT. I ran into this issue when I shipped a PC to Canada from the US. Even though I already paid US sales tax on all the components, 15% HST was still charged as a customs duty on the $2,600.00 USD shipment.

the most obvious reason is the currency, 1€ = 1,3$.
one would think in this situation the EU prices woul be lower but the companies like to use close numbers for the prices.
for example GTX 970 being 329.99USD and 324.9€, people are being manipulated this way.

I hope price will drop when EVGA Europe get cards...
I see they talk something for 5 years warranty for limited time.
That would be madness to get GTX980 and GTX970 FTW on beginning.
Maybe some retailers now import over their channels from USA to offer first and their price is bigger.

sahafiecthe most obvious reason is the currency, 1€ = 1,3$.
one would think in this situation the EU prices woul be lower but the companies like to use close numbers for the prices.

Unfortunately, I've yet to see that happen.  It's frequently stated that it's a mixture of local costs for businesses (i.e. rent/land costs, wage variation due to cost of living, and taxes such as National Insurance/Social Security, etc), and tax (VAT) being rolled into the "sticker" price.  As an example, at the moment, the GTX 760 boards from all manufacturers generally tend to be around £170-190 ($270-305, or $215-245 without tax), which is a little over the MSRP in the US ($210).

MalkivProbably has to do something with customs duty and VAT.

I believe there is no import tariff (duty) on computer hardware for the EU, however, there is VAT, which is typically included in the "sticker" price, and therefore "transparent" (varies by member state, but typically around 20%).

Current PC: Intel Core i7 4790K, Noctua NH-U12S, Asus Z97-Pro, 16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro 1866Mhz RAM, Samsung 850 Pro 256GB, Crucial MX100 512GB, Western Digital Black 2TB, EVGA GTX 970 SC (blower), Pioneer BDR-209DBK, Fractal Design Define R4 + Noctua NF-A14 FLX fans, Corsair AX760 PSU, Dell U2713HM

    Thanks for the replies guys.

Most probably it may have to do with everything you mentioned.
Sometimes customs act in different ways. What I mean is that -  for example, I order water cooling parts from the U.S. but never been charged with customs duties.
I ordered a Caselabs case then suddenly they charged me....

    Unless....

the 5 year warranty is basically charged or paid for by the consumers?
