Re: GTX 780 Ti 2013/11/12 12:04:46 (permalink)
I just upgraded from 2x 670 4GB SC+ in SLI to a 780 Ti SC.

Benchmarks are great and the 780 Ti is neck and neck with the 2x 670s.  However last night when I was playing BF4 on Ultra at 1920x1080 (144Hz) I got some FPS dips into the 40s as if the card was struggling due to hitting some limit.  I have a 770 at work and it runs at 60fps perfectly fine with no stuttering and almost never drops below 60fps.

Any thoughts or ideas?  My home system is a 3770k @ 4.6, 16GB DDR3 2400, Maximus V Formula, Corsair AX1200.  Work system is 3570k @ 4.0, 16GB DDR3 2133, Maxiumus V Gene.

Try to remove slider with Temp Target and check power limit during games and maybe is only driver problem.
Next 2-3 drivers people will see only improvement and nothing else in games such Crysis 3, BF3, BF4, Matro, Bioshock Infinity,....
3770K is nice processor for GK110. I keep mine on 4.5GHz until I install GTX780.

I was thinking a lot about the step up program argument that occurred earlier in this post. If you think about it, there are good arguments for both sides. EVGA could make more money from their hardcore gamers by letting them step up to SC and Classified, but then what do they do with the older/base model cards? Any business would want to sell the more rare cards as opposed to trade them for older cards. If they were to so this (and for my own benefit I wish they would) they would never have any stock to sell and would basically be selling nothing but branded reference cards to new clients/etc.

So I understand both arguments. Personally, I feel burned because I paid $700 for each of my two 780 classified's 10 days before the announcement...I can see how people would be mad, but it's not EVGA's job to pick up other companies' slack (in this case NVIDIA)

For EVGA_JacobF:  Why not allow preorders of the 780 ti super coolers and ACX cards that put aside the 3 free games for that person.  I think most people here are concerned that Nov 26 will roll around and the cards we want will not be available thus missing out on a great deal.  I think if most of us could purchase the card now guaranteeing the 3 free games, we would.

Reference models are just as good as super clocked models. I don't know if the power phases change for the ACX model, but FTW and classified power phases change as well as some other after market cooled cards.

Let me ask, do you think it is a worthy upgrade to hop from a 780 FTW to a Ti SC? If even for resell value down the road. What do you think?

Definitely worth it -- I'm in the same boat -- Bought my 780 FTW ACX cards (2) like 10 days ago and had severe buyers remorse when the 780 TI came out.  I'm enrolled in the Step-Up program and I have 79 days left as of today.  I'm hoping to wait until the 780 Ti ACX (at least) or 780 Ti Classified (if we get lucky) is on the Step Up list before my time runs out.

I don't know why I have this aversion to just the SC model. I feel like if I don't get the ACX model then I'm not getting the best or one of the best models.

If it will cost you less, go from 780ftw (reference cooler?) to 780 ti. Then bump the core clock +50-+100mhz, boom! SC!

My 780 ftw is the acx model. That's why I was fond of the acx models in general.

See my plan was to buy a 780 sc acx model, and then step up my 780 ftw to a ti reference and the sell that for 600-650 perhap unopened.

But I'm torn on for if I should just buy the superclocked model or wait til newegg drops the acx models.

Oh, well then yes Ill take it

I guess it more depends on the market and what they want to have. At the moment, since it is a new card , people are looking for the ACX and at that price it should sell fast if you get the step up in decent time

Here's my main question, is the cooling on the 780 ti superclocked sufficient or is it imperative to have the ACX model with this card?

Depending on what you plan do do with it.  Going SLI, you will need sufficient room between the cards and case air flow to dissipate heat properly.  Overclocking the reference version seems to be going well with temps hitting 85C, but with the ACX model you will probably be able to OC more due to better cooling.

Is the superclocked considered the reference as well?

Or does the superclocked come with the acx cooling and I'm unaware?

There is a base 780 ti, a superclocked 'reference-cooling' 780 ti, then an ACX 'base' 780 Ti, an ACX SuperClocked 780 Ti, and the 780Ti Classified.

Jacob, I apologize if this has already been answered, but will we see the ACX SuperClocked or the Classified 780 Ti available for Step Up?  I assume we will see at least the 'base' ACX 780 Ti once it is available.
