Hello everyone, I am fairly new to the GTX series cards coming from AMD's cards. I recently had a 7850 fry out on me and decided to buy a GTX 770 OC edition at 4Gb's VRAM and cannot get my computer to boot past the BIOS. I have uninstalled all the AMD drivers, updated the motherboard driver, and did a series of other things except for trying it in the secondary PCI-e slot. Also, I am aware that the CPU will bottleneck the GPU, so you don't need to say anything about it.

System specs:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium-64 bit
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 955 Black @ stock 3.2Ghz
Motherboard: ASUS M4A78T-E
PCI-e 2.0 x 16 (As far as I am aware, the PCI 3 cards should be backwards compatible with the PCI 2 slots, with diminished performance).
RAM: 16 Gig of G-Skill F3-1333-10666

I will attempt to get the DxDIAG attached to this as well once I swap my 5770 back into my desktop.

Thank you for your help. James

Edit: Forgot to mention that my PSU is a Haswell 750 Wht Gold certified

Looks like you're going to need a new motherboard. Latest MB BIOS update is from 1/31/2012, which means it's out of date to support the 770 UEFI vBIOS.

Ok, thanks for the info. Do you know if any of the AMD Am3+ boards are compatible with the 770?

Thank you for your help Sajin, I decided to get the Sabortooth model and hope it will get here by Wednesday so I can play BF4 again. Also decided as it had the highest reviews among'st all the models and has the RAM compatibility so no need for new RAM. Well, infuriatingly, I spent more than I wanted for this summer because of this, but maybe I can get some money back for that fried card and get a second part time to make up for the difference. Again, thank you for your help.

Update: Got my new Motherboard in today and am currently installing all my driver software for it. Unfortunately, I got the exact same problem from the 770 with the new Sabertooth MoBo that I did with the M4A78T-E MoBo, and that was the mouse and keyboard not working, and the computer not progressing past the bios screen while not being able to get into BIOS. I guess it has to be a faulty GPU than for it to be doing the exact same thing to the new MoBo that it did to the old one. Do you have any thoughts about it? Will I have to RMA it? Or is is a possibility that the MoBo needs updating first before having a GPU installed?

You should update the BIOS on the motherboard first.

I'm looking at BIOS updates now, gonna have to save it to my thumb drive and set up a backup in case something happens. My question is, do I have to install all the updates, or can I just install the latest one?

Edit: Also, do I just install the BIOS update, or do I have to do the BIOS-Utility update as well?

All you should have to do is update the motherboard BIOS to BIOS version 2501 using EZ Flash 2.

Thank you, I let you know how that goes. Also, my father is giving me some hassle about it as he had a bad experience with Geoforce back in the day and is warning me that if I update the BIOS and something goes wrong, it will fry my computer, any idea about that?

No problem. Updating the motherboard BIOS will not fry your computer but could brick the BIOS chip.

NOTE: The EZ Flash 2 utility can be located under the Tool menu inside the BIOS. Make sure your USB thumb drive is formatted in FAT32 before putting the 2501 BIOS onto the thumb drive and loading the EZ Flash 2 utility.

How do I tell if my USB thumb drive is formatted in FAT32? I've had for at least five years and am not sure if it is or not.

Open my computer and right click on the drive and select properties, the file system should read as FAT32 not NTFS.

It just says it is FAT.

Edit: The date of the BIOS is November 11, 2013, so I am going to attempt the 770 installation one more time before updating the bios. I wanna use the update as a last resort.

Update: Bios has been flashed, pretty easy with that program that they have in the BIOS, and the GTX failed to load yet again. I took the card out and inspected the outside and discovered that on the connection to the PCI express slot, there is a scratch on the gold colored conductors. I believe that this is the cause of my problems, and can you verify it?

I RMA'd it for replacement this morning, so I don't have a picture. I do know that the scratch looked deep and ran across maybe an inch or two of the mid section of the connector, which I believe is the bronze portion of it.

Ok, let me know how the RMA'd card works out for you.

Update: After what seems like a week, NewEgg confirmed my problems with that card and is shipping me a new one that should arrive by Wednesday. Just a quick question before than, does the card come with its own protective back-plate, or is it bought desperately. Also, does it cause any heating issues with the card should the back-plate be installed?
