I bought my EVGA GTX 760 SC a little over a month ago and was wondering if the upgrade/step-up to a 970 would be worth it?

Would I be missing out on a significant amount of performance by going with the reference step-up 970 vs the 970 SC?

it would be more than worth, you get almost GTX780Ti performance for GTX770 price.
don't even think about not doing it.
if you are not tight on budget then go for the SC ACX 2.0 or even the FTW, top of the 970 line.
but if every buck counts even the less expensive one would do it.

Oh man, I didn't realize the improvements were that substantial!

I'd love to get the SC ACX 2.0 version but I only have the option of the standard ACX reference 970 with the step-up program since I'd prefer to avoid the trouble of selling my 760 as it'd probably end up being a worse deal. But if the reference is still a huge improvement then I'll definitely go that route.

Thanks for the advice!

even if it's the standard ACX reference 970 your performance gain will be amazing.
just do it.

Not to mention this will be your only chance to step up. If you're on a 760, step up.

Hi,

I also bought a GTX 760 SC and I'm interested in Step Up to GTX 970 SC. But in my account there is no option to upgrade to the GTX 970 SC. I have 63 days left to Step Up, but no GTX 970 to choose.
Does anyone know why?

Thx in advance.

Thank you for your reply.

What is a vanilla card and why can the author of this thread, D3schain, do the upgrade?

Thx again.

He means a card that runs at stock clock speeds (ie. no SC, FTW, ...), I guess.

Vanilla is just regular no FTW,SC, Classified etc. The author/OP can only upgrade to what you can. I think he is assuming he can do otherwise.

Yes step up. I would even step up to the 980, that thing is only $550. Your 760sc was what, $300?
OR
It may be worth seeing what you can get a 2nd 760sc for and comparing the 760SLI to one 970 or one 980.

Nope! Although you made me realize my initial post was poorly worded. I was just wondering if the step-up to a reference 970 would be worth it, the second part was more me wondering how big the gap in performance is between reference 970 and the SC.

Haha, my 760 SC was actually only $230 after rebate. I'm afraid I can't justify the $320 extra to step up to a 980 versus the $100 to get a 970.
As for a second 760, I tend to avoid SLI so as not to deal with the instability of two cards in SLI vs a single more powerful card, even at the cost of some performance.

I've duly noted all the replies however and will definitely continue with the step-up process. Thank you guys for all the help!

130Euros more for a 970 is sweet, good grab.

What games do you play the most?
For me its mostly BF4 so I need the SLI (tri-fire).
I couldn't imaging my system without SLI or a dual GPU card.

I play most action-adventures like Assassins Creed, Skyrim, Watch Dogs, GTA, Witcher etc. I wanted a powerful card for the upcoming games, GTA V and The Witcher3. I think the 970 should be the right.
