Hi everyone, yesterday when playing Ark I noticed that my GPU is getting very hot. I am running Windows 10, the latest Nvidia drivers 355.60. I did a clean install using DDU. I use EVGA precision 5.3.7 and double checked the temperature with HWINFO64. I am using Single GPU mode and optimal performance mode in the Nvidia controll panel, cause ARK does not support SLI, and I gain a few FPS doing so.
When running the game, it uses 99% of my GPU. And without using overclocked settings, the temperature gets up to 96 degrees celcius, with my slight overclock of 100Mhz on Gpu clock and Memory it gets to 98 degrees celcius. I am running the card in a big case, a Coolermaster Cosmos 2, I have alle the fanslots in use with high rpm fans, if I set them all to max it sounds like a jetplane taking off. Just a couple of weeks ago I cleaned out all the dust from all the vents, including the ones on the GTX 690 itself, and everything is in working order, so airflow should not be a problem. My room temperature is not that hot either, its around 25 degrees celcius. I have not retimmed my card, never openend it, only removed dust with pressured air. All the fans are working like they should.
At this moment I am gonna do a test with Unigine heaven, to see what the temperatures will be. But the question is, has anyone else experienced these kinds of temperatures with this card in ARK, and I am convinced it is running to hot now, could it be a hardware malfunction, either a sensor problem, or maybe one of the vapor chambers that is not working like it should?
Update, after running Unigine heaven, EVGA precision gave me the following stats: #1 GTX 690 running at 979 Mhz at a temp of 97 degrees celcius, #2 GTX 690 running at 1045 Mhz at a temp of 70 degrees celcius. I am running the heaven test at 1920x1080, DX11, quality high, Tessellation Normal, AA x4 full screen. There are no artifacts or crashes. But it seems to me that #1 GTX is running way to hot. The cards fan is at 100% 2800 rpm. I am gonna take the card out, see if I can spot anything weird.
2nd Update, I took out the card, checked it out, nothing seems broken, I took out any remaining dust, I have run Unigine Heaven again, and still the same problem, I have attached a screenshot with the outcome of the benchmark, in the top right corner you can see the temperatures of both GPU chips, with a difference of more then 20 degrees celcius. If anyone know a different way to test my GPU to confirm these stats, please let me know.
