Hibernate works if you're willing to put up with longer wake up times until we all finally upgrade from our X58 motherboards.

So are they even working on a fix for this? Or is the answer to not use S3 w/ the x58 GTX600 combo?

I just got my GTX 680 today and after I try to resume my PC from S3 sleep, no display. I'm not to happy now, I like the performance. This has nothing to do with x58 chipset. I've been running two HD 5870 for over two years without issues. I'm going to bed now and I don't have time to read through the whole thread. Currently using the latest WHQL driver and don't know there has been a fix for this issue yet.

I hope Nvidia fixes this, might be a more of a bios issue than driver. I will try hibernation, I really like the sleep mode since it's just quick. I won't be getting newer board/cpu soon because this generation is still a very power system and can run most games and programs close to the very expensive x79 systems.
You have two options for now, get the x79 or get 7970. I had no issue with my two 5870's regarding sleep. I own them for a little over 2 years.

I also wonder if the new GTX 660 ti users are having the same issue with their x58 boards?

You wonder because you have a 660 or you are planning to have one?
The work around for me is to just put the pc to hibernation, it's faster then powering the pc from cold boot. resume form hibernation works fine and I'm good with that. I hope EVGA or Nvidia figures out a fix for this.

No I currently have a 670, but I wonder because if the 660 is doing this too then perhaps with more users complaining it will get resolved faster.

Using hibernate over S3 sleep is unacceptable for me.

I see this issues on Linux platform and with other Nvidia GPU's as well besides the 600 series. Not sure it's related to the driver or what.

If the Information I posted on Page 4 is true then I wouldn't hold my breath on a fix for this.

They already started to remove some of the X58 Boards from their hardware list and from what it looks like we're confronted by a hardware issue caused by the lack of Option ROM capacity.

So unless they miraculously manage to expand the Option ROM capacity with a software update or lessen the size of the Firmware to enable more Hardware information to be successfully loaded at startup this will probably never, ever be fixed.

I really hope Eva does not leave us hanging. Three questions:

Is it just evga x58 boards that have this problem w the gtx 600?

Does the gtx 500 series have s3 sleep problems with these boards?

Does the radeon 7000 series s3 sleep have problems with these boards?

The 7970 has 3 gigs of ram, and to bad this is not the right place to ask because most people on this forums use nvidia video cards. I hope some of you out there with a 7970 and x58 mobo give us some feedback on S3. If it's indeed the ROM capacity, then how much ram can a video card have before it cause this issue after resuming from sleep? The 580 doesn't have 2 gigs of video ram. That's why we need feedback from AMD's video cards that have 2 plus gigs of video ram.

hmm I had this problem with my 560Ti 448c. It doesn't happen very often - in fact rarely but it does. I would resume from S3 and everything wakes up incl kb,mouse , can hear the drives spin up...but the screen stays blank. I thought it would be driver related. For now it happens so rarely that I don't consider it pressing.

But I just ordered a GTX 670 card and now I am seeing this thread. sigh I spent $400+ on this board, figured it might last me till I upgrade next year. Lack of ROM  on a $400+ board? my next board will be from somewhere else.

Anyone out there experiencing this with boards that are not EVGA? If this is limited to EVGA x58 boards then mine may be on Ebay soon in favor of an Asus mobo.

Don't think that Asus are not going to have lots of different issue. Asus boards this days have more issue than others. Consider MSI or Gigabyte if you want to get a new board.

What I want is for EVGA to fix this. I just perfected my i7 overclock with this board and don't want to start from scratch.

There was an EVGA rep in here a couple months back who was very vocal. How about an update?

Even if the rep came back to say EVGA is not working on a fix it would help to let me know I shouldn't hold my breath.

Also telling me the maximum amount of memory a card can have for sleep to work would help. That's why I want to collect as much info about the x58 & card combo to see what does / does not work.

Just bought a 2GB 560 so I could test this "too much memory" theory that EVGA support said was the problem with our boards.

Needless to say it came out of s3 sleep mode PERFECTLY.

So if the issue is really "too much memory" on the GTX 600 cards, then why did a 560 with the same amount of memory work with my board?

I had a 3GB 580 Classified Ultra and it resumed from S3 for me perfectly every time.

It's a problem with the 680 cards

Think a newer Radeon card would work? Perhaps its time to switch over to the dark side haha. But seriously if the 600's don't work my choice is that or settle with an older 580 (and probably pay the same price as a 680)

Why do you need S3 so bad? I'll put up with hibernate for the 680's performance

Not worth it to me! I have been an Nvidia guy for years but without sleep mode I'm out!

I already feel like I have such limited time in life that I will not wait longer / enter my bios password for hibernate. When I come back to my pc I want to be at my desktop in seconds.

My i7 970 is still good so I don't want to upgrade from my x58 setup yet. I will just use my classified 580 and try again when the 8000 series of Radeon cards / 700 series of Nvidia cards come out.

Just get the radeon 7970 then, they are just as good as the 680 but they have wide memory bus. Good for huge resolution and multi monitor setup.

From reading a 670 & 680 seem to beat the 7970 when all are stock in most (not all) games. The 7970 does beat the 580 though.

The only thing holding me back from jumping ship right now is the complaints I hear about radeon drivers.

The 680 does beat the 7970 in all games but the 7970 are about the same as 580. Many games at higher res do beat the 580.

For you getting the 7970 is not worth it, keep the 580 then. I went from two HD 5870 to 1 gtx 680 and it's worth it. Gaming experience is far better than two 5870 in crossfire, In BF3 it would stutter or lag from time to time depending on how much action and I wasn't able to use 4xMSAA at ultra settings. With the 680 it's butter smooth and constant FPS. So to sums things up, the performance, quietness and coolness is much more worth it than not being able to sleep lol

Haha to each his own bud. My 670 did run great and ran cooler using less power but I just can't get over not having sleep :). It's already on it's way back to newegg anyhow.
