Hi Everyone,

For those of you who are running GTX 580 Classified in SLI and play Battlefield 4, what version of driver are you using? My game crashes constantly and no matter what fixes I apply, nothing is working so far. I've done the following:

- Tested with the following drivers: 337.88, 344.75, 347.09 & 347.52
- Uninstall/Reinstall and updated PunkBuster
- Set audio to headphones
- Deleted "redist" CAB files and repaired the game
- Turned off AntiVirus
- Tried Borderless screen setting

I got a feeling it's a driver compatibility and wanted to see if anyone here had any success in getting Battlefied 4 running on GTX 580 Classifieds in SLI mode.

Here is the error I get when game stops responding:

Faulting application name: bf4_x86.exe, version: 1.4.2.23831, time stamp: 0x547fa925
Faulting module name: bf4_x86.exe, version: 1.4.2.23831, time stamp: 0x547fa925
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x0064321c
Faulting process id: 0xfd8
Faulting application start time: 0x01d04ccfc19af57a
Faulting application path: D:\Game Files\Origin Games\Battlefield 4\bf4_x86.exe
Faulting module path: D:\Game Files\Origin Games\Battlefield 4\bf4_x86.exe

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you.

What are your full system specs? Are you able to play the game for awhile before it crashes?

    My computer specs:

    EVGA X58 SLI Motherboard
    Intel i7 965 Extreme 3.2GHz CPU
    Corsair 12GB RAM @ 1600MHz
    2 x EVGA GTX 580 Classified
    Claro HT Omega Sound Card
    2 x WD Raptor 10K RPM HDD 320GB
    Windows 7 (64-bit)

I am running the game at x86 becase 64-bit has even more stability issues. Most of the time I am able to login to the server and play for 10 - 15 minutes and then game will lock-up and I get a pop-up on the desktop "Battlefield 4 Has Stopped Responding" window. Three of my other friends who play this game run single GPU cards and have no crashing issues. So, I am assuming that it has to do something with SLI and drivers. I really do not want to run the game in a non-SLI config as it will drastically decrease performance. On top of that I paid good money for these cards and want to be able to use them.

Just as a side note... No other game has any stability issues. I've played BF3 forever and had no problems, just finished Metro Last Light a few weeks ago, no issues either. Far Cry 3 took a while to finish and it hasn't crashed a single time. Battlefield 4 is the only game that is crashing...

    Thank you.

I'll follow your recommended steps tonight. But what driver version do you recommend to use? Right now I have version 337.88 installed and I'm not sure if I should go back to the latest version or stick with this one.

    Thanks.

Well... I followed your recommendation and unfortunately game still crashes. I've timed it this time and usually I'll be able to play for about 10-15 minutes and then game will crash. I also uninstalled and re-installed the game and still get the same results. :(

Have you checked your ram individually for errors by running memtest86+? Have you tried playing the game with only one card to see if the game still crashes? Have you tried running your 580's at reference 580 speeds to see if it helps with the crash? Are you running precision x/afterburner while playing the game? If so, completely exit precision x/afterburner before launching BF4.

I finally got some time to finish all of the changes and to test it...

    - RAM Checked out Ok, no errors
    - Updated BIOS on my X58 board
    - Removed one of the cards
    - Reinstalled DirectX
    - Repaired the game

After all that, game still crashes. Not sure where to look next as all other games work just fine, only BF4 crashes. I didn't try to run the 580 at baseline speed as I will have to run Precision X to down clock the card while playing the game. I did read in one of the posts that Afterburner and Precision X will cause the game to crash if running while the game is launched.

Any GTX 580 users here running BF4? Are you having crashes?

    Thanks.

Does running the game on low/medium/high graphics extend the play time before the game crashes?

Funny you mentioned that... because after posting yesterday, I did went back in the game and lowered the video settings. Most of the video settings are now set to High from Ultra and MSAA disabled. I was able to finish the entire round of Locker 1000 ticket game. But then when next map loaded, I tried to quit the game and it crashed on the black screen. But, yes it seems that I was able to play longer with lowered settings.

I'll test some more today to see if I get the same results and then I'll give you an update.

Thanks for your help Sajin! I really appreciated it.

    Take care,

I have 2 GTX 580s in SLI and rarely experience BF4 game crashes. I don't have Precision or Afterburner installed.

You said that you tested with one card removed. Did you try with the other card by itself as well? It is possible that the card you removed is perfectly fine and it could be the card you left installed which has issues.

No go... still crashes and very randomly. When I started playing, first 3 times it crashed about 5 minutes into the game. On the 4th time I was able to play a full round and it crashed shortly after starting a new round. Made couple of more changes that I've read on the other forum. Set game to borderless mode, turned off mouse raw input and turned off VoIP. No luck... Here is the error I got in the Even Log:

Faulting application name: bf4_x86.exe, version: 1.4.2.23831, time stamp: 0x547fa925
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.1.7601.18247, time stamp: 0x521ea8e7

    Faulting application path: D:\Game Files\Origin\Battlefield 4\bf4_x86.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ntdll.dll

    However before I was getting:
Faulting application name: bf4_x86.exe, version: 1.4.2.23831, time stamp: 0x547fa925
Faulting module name: bf4_x86.exe, version: 1.4.2.23831, time stamp: 0x547fa925

    Faulting application path: D:\Game Files\Origin\Battlefield 4\bf4_x86.exe
    Faulting module path: D:\Game Files\Origin\Battlefield 4\bf4_x86.exe

Well... I guess back to the drawing board. :)

Yeah I've tried to swap them out, no difference. By any chance can you share your BF4 settings and version of driver you are using?

I have no idea which driver version I am using. I just reinstalled Windows a few days ago due to a SSD failure and was just using whatever driver Windows installed. Before the Windows install, I can't remember the driver version. I am not at home and unable to check. The settings I am using are just the default game settings with nothing changed.

Your error message looks like a BF4 error, not a NVIDIA driver error. You might want to check your CPU (and try the CPU at default speed if it is overclocked), check your system memory (and check it at a lower speed), check your audio drivers, check your DirectX installation, uninstall Afterburner and Precision and reinstall your graphics drivers afterwards and uninstall Geforce Experience.

This error is a sign that your operating system may have some missing/corrupted system files, it could also mean your hdd's may have some issues. I recommend you run the system file checker tool to check for missing/corrupted system files. I would also recommend that you run check disk on both your HDD's, make sure both "Automatically fix file system errors" & "Scan for and attempt recover of bad sectors" are check marked when running the check disk on both HDD's.

After running both the system file checker & check disk tools I would recommend running a repair install on BF4...  Goto to my games in origin, Right click BF4 game image, Select repair game. After the repair installation is complete try launching and playing BF4.

Hopefully you won't have any more issues at this point. If your issue continues at this point I would recommend reinstalling your operating system.

Still no luck... I've formatted the HDD and now in the process of reinstalling and configuring Windows 7. Once done, I'll install Battlefield 4 and start testing.

After a clean install of Windows 7, game still randomly crashes. Here is the complete list of troubleshooting/fixes applied:

    -          Formatted HDD (zeroed out all sectors) using KillDisk
    -          Installed Windows 7 and applied all updates
    -          Installed latest Chipset and Sound Card Drivers, but decided to stay with nVidia driver v344.75 for my GTX 580 Classified after reading reviews of the new drivers. Note: all drivers have been tested that are offered on nVidia site prior to OS reinstall and v344.75 proved to be more stable than others.
    -          Tested HDD for bad sectors (PASS)
    -          Tested RAM with Memtest 86+ (PASS)
    -          Reset BIOS to defaults and ran both CPU & RAM on stock clocks
    -          Swapped video cards (I have 2 GTX 580 Classifieds). Tried one card and then another, no SLI.
    -          Installed Battlefield 4 from Origin
    -          Disabled Origin in Game
    -          Turned off Cloud Synchronization
    -          Set audio in game to “Headphones”
    -          Lowered graphical settings
    -          Set screen to “Borderless”
    -          Did not install AntiVirus
    -          Opened-up all of the ports (port forwarding) that is recommended by EA/DICE for BF4
    -          Opened-up firewall for both 64-bit and 32-bit versions of the game
    -          Set Multi-display/mixed GPU-Acceleration to “Single Display Performance Mode” in nVidia Control Panel
    -          Set Power management mode to “Performance”
    -          Reinstalled VC ++ Redist all years from Microsoft site and then also uninstalled and re-installed a 2012 redist package that came with BF4
    -          Reinstall DirectX from Microsoft and then also deleted .cab files , repaired the game and installed DirectX that came with BF4
    -          Repaired the game from Origin
    -          Downloaded latest PBSetup and updated the game
    -          Used different browsers, IE and Chrome

Sometimes I can play for a few hours straights and other times it’ll crash in 10 – 15 minutes; Most of the time it will crash now prior to 20 minute mark. Not sure what else I can try… any suggestions?

    Thanks.

Try running your RAM at 1333MHz & try running the cards downclocked -105 from default clocks on both the core and memory.

Do this i had the same problem.

Download and install EVGA precision LEGACY. the old one. V 2.1.2, Go into the settings in the wrench icon, go to voltage properties. Check and make sure each card is at the same voltage. In hard gaming mine will crash until i adjust each card to the same voltage. First card will be higher then the rest. All 3 of my cards read different voltages. No clue why. Adjust them to all the same with the cards in OC mode. Wont bother them at all.

I run 3 GTX580 classy ultra hydro coppers. This worked for me.
