Hi folks,

I just wanted to report that I've been having extensive driver problems with my GTX 460 lately in the form of random freezes (the video display would freeze, then lose signal, despite the fact that the computer was still running). These started when I installed the 335.23 Driver via GeForce Experience, but the freezes would only happen every couple of days and primarily while watching videos or gaming. I installed the 337.88 Driver in hopes that the update would solve my problems, but they only got worse: I couldn't even browse the internet (tested using different browsers) without having the display freeze every 5-10 minutes. This was all after a relatively recent fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit, which, incidentally, was necessitated by the fact that the first time I ever tried to use GeForce Experience to update my drivers rather than updating them manually, the process somehow deleted almost every file in Windows.

Anyhow, to solve the freezes, I used the Display Driver Uninstaller program, in Safe Mode, to remove the drivers, all of the GeForce software, and clean up the registry. I then installed Driver 332.21 (released January 2014). I have had ZERO problems since this. No freezes, nothing.

I'm not sure if this is really a problem caused by the drivers, or caused by the fact that these drivers were installed with GeForce Experience; 335.23 and 337.88 were the only two drivers I have had installed using that program rather than manually. I am a bit biased against the Experience program for reasons mentioned above. Essentially, I am afraid to use it to update drivers, and also afraid to update drivers manually beyond 332.21 because I don't know what is causing the problem.

I would appreciate any feedback, but otherwise hope that others find this post informative and perhaps a bit helpful.

Cheers!

jchase1188, I'd try the update manually using the custom install and selecting on the necessary component for what you need (Drivers, PhysX and Audio drivers if using monitor's speakers via HDMI/DP).  Also ensure that the box next to perform clean install is checked.

It's possible that this may have just been an issue with GeForce experience if you are not having any trouble currently.  You can try stressing the system in it's current state to make sure it is stable.

Valley Benchmark would be a good place to start.

Check to see if there is an IRQ conflict in relation to the recent driver update as well. This FAQ is meant for series 400/500/600 cards having problems after driver installs/updates http://www.evga.com/support/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=59211

I downloaded the New nVIDIA Driver and it dropped my temps but it also downclocked my GTX 460 from 720 to 405 mhz.
    Any suggestions?
It black screened today with the new drivers. I'm not sure what's going on.
I got my clock speed back up with Precision X after 3 reboots and will check back @ 7:30 AM Eastern time with an update on the situation.

    PEACE With JUSTICE, PLEASE

In this scenario I would recommend performing a benchmark test to see if it clocks to the correct speeds under load since the new driver may reduce power consumption in effect down clocking the card assuming this new clock reading is idle. We normally suggest using Valley Benchmark, Heaven Benchmark, OC Scanner and or 3Dmark 11. Hope this helps.

What version of the 460 are you running? The 337.88 drivers are running rock-solid on my 1GB GTX460 SC EE (the 256-bit version) with the core clock at 805.
