Hi all,

I've just installed my GTX 460 from my other machine as a hold out until I can pickup a GTX 580 (x-mas hopefully). Anyway my problem is once I replace my 5870 with the GTX 460 the computer will not show any display; once or twice I got in ok after 3-6 restarts and everything was fine. I've tried re-seating the card, but that didn't seem to make an difference. I find it very strange that the card works fine in my other machine (ITX P55 based machine), but not in my main one. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Nope ... just sits there and goes into windows (if I let it), but still even then shows nothing.

I give up ... I tried switching slots and upgrading the bois; but the card won't boot. If anyone gets a eVGA GTX 460 working with a Gigabyte X58 UD5 please post it here.

why don't you try RMA'ing the card.
if you're really sure it's the card then just RMA it.

The card works fine in my other PC though, no crash, no booting issues, no nothing ... so I don't think its the card.

Put the card in the 2nd PCIEX slot and boot into safe mode if you can.

Use Drive Sweeper to remove remnant ATI and NVIDEA drivers.
See if the machine will boot to full in the 2nd slot. If it does, shut down and put into the first slot. If the machines doesn't boot with the first, then reflash the bios.

I personally had a Bios corruption issue on a motherboard I was using and the card would not work in the first slot without a bunch of artifacts on the screen and such. I was able to utilize the method above to get the machine running perfect again.
    Good Luck.

Tried the 2nd slot and did a bois update.

Did Driver Sweeper too, but that won't effect the card not displaying anything upon boot-up.

I put my 5870 back in and boots up no-problem. Also put the 460 back in my itx computer and boots no problem.

Try removing all but one memory module
Clear CMOS, unplug and let it sit...for a minute or more.
    Reboot.
If no boot, replace memory module with alternate and repeat.

Sounds like a memory address issue to me being that both cards are able to boot into other machines.

    Question..

What OS is this other machine of yours running? There have been numerous reports of thee GTX 460 running without problems in Windows XP (haven't heard anything on Vista YET), but having tons of problems on Windows 7 (home, professional, ultimate) 64bit. I'm not sure on Windows 7 32bit either. But Anything W7 64bit has had issues.

@tyketto - I'm running Win7 x64 if that helps anyone... but at this point of this problem the OS makes no difference. The bios or something else isn't correctly detecting the gfx card. This is before the OS has anything to do with the system displaying information.

Keeping in mind also that my other machine (GA-H55N-USB3, i5 750, etc) doesn't have any issues running the card and never has since I built it about 3 months ago. It's also running W7 x64.

Have you tried a clean install of Win 7 Ultimate 64bit with the 460?  Any old ATI software that might conflict with Nvidia left on the OS also?

@Atrytehgeek - I think you missed the post above ... the OS has no power over the machine until the bios hands it over. The bios isn't detecting the card correctly.  I also used Driver Sweaper to make sure there was no ATI drivers on my machine.

@Hog54 - I have tried, both connectors, different slots ... etc.

I'm not sure about the MOBO and whether it can support the 400 series card. I had a similar experience in the last couple days.  http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=702835 .

Not sure whether any of that will help you.
Edit: Also check to see whether the BIOS contains a "pallette snoop/autodetect setting" for the PCIe slots.

does the other MOBO have onboard sound? Does the problem MOBO?

Did you Do a fresh install with a 260.89 or later driver and select all the options for install. I had an issue with stability when I selectively chose to omit stuff as the OS puts them in your installed programs folder anyway.

Sorry, just throwing out things I've run into.

I got a GTX 460 SE in January.

It didn't show vid when I first installed it, I just reseated it and powercycled -- And it worked... But if I shut down the PC fully, I would have to powercycle it before video would show up again.

I worked around the problem by just not using hibernate or shutting down.

Then I bought a new mobo.

I reassembled my PC, put the GTX in, and powered it up. Right away, it showed video. I installed Windows. Updated. Got Steam, and played a few games before going to sleep and SHUTTING DOWN the PC.

Well, I wake up and it won't show me any video, instead giving me the beep code for "No Video Card" --

Anyway, I just submitted a ticket and I want to RMA this card...
