I currently have GTX 780 SLI and have looked around for explicit results and yet all I can find is implied ones. I'm looking for some hard numbers, run on current-gen hardware of a GTX 1080 vs GTX 780 SLI at 1440p. I know that I can extrapolate old data from various charts but at the same time I feel like the results aren't necessarily as clear cut as a true head-to-head benchmark. I was hoping there would be newer data using newer hardware and testing them both. Are there any users here who can provide me with benchmarks in a few games like BF4, Crysis 3, Metro, ROTTR?? Or maybe someone has come across a set of results already done by someone else? I couldn't care less about 3DMark or other benchmarking software. I really only care about 'real world gaming performance'. 4K results do not interest me as I won't be switching any time soon.

With the announcement of the new Titan X and with BF1 right around the corner... I need cold, hard data to support my next purchase whether it be a GTX 1080 FTW, GTX 1080 Ti (assuming one still comes out), or a 'lower' level Titan X (non-OC'd). I'm trying to keep from having to upgrade afterwards /add another card for quite some time after this purchase.

I apologize in advance if this has been answered. I may not have been searching the correct terms to find previously posted results.

I never had SLI 780s, but I had SLI 980s, and the 1080 comes very close to the performance of SLI 980s, or passes it in games with poor scaling I don't have any direct benchmarks between to two setups, but one thing you might have already found as one of the implied results, is comparing things like 3Dmark scores, and factor in that benchmarks will have some of the best SLI scaling, so those benchmarks tip in the favor of the SLI 780s, compared to a single 1080 that doesn't have to deal with SLI scaling.

another thing to consider is the 2GB of vram on the 780s, that could be a limiting factor at some point.

Though the best way to get results is to look up gtx 1080 performance, and run the SLI 780 test yourself, as finding benchmarks for the 780 SLI for modern games and drivers may be hard, but the 1080 results will be ample.

the big question of course is how much will (if at all) your CPU might affect results, given that you have I think a x79 CPU and most benchmark results for 1080 will be using something newer I think.

I do still have the X79 platform but was hoping to not have to really worry about my CPU for a while still. When i built it, i went with the 3960x and was able to get it to 4.6Ghz for 24/7 usage. I understand that the newer CPUs will handle encodes and stuff better but in terms of gaming i figured there wasnt a DRASTIC amount of increase between the two to justify a new X99 or Z170 build. Again, thats hard to measure directly but most games are only just starting to use 4 cores and this is still a 6 core/12 thread CPU.

I did see that but I dont really play the witcher series and while the 3DMark benches help some it still sucks because it's still not 100% indicative of real-world gaming glory. I do appreciate you pointing that thread out to me at least. Helps a little bit but I'm still going to hope someone will swoop in with a few more specifics. I tend to trust this community more than I do most review sites
