Sorry for another should I upgrade thread but I trust your opinions here. I currently run a GTX 780 3-way SLI set-up at 5940 x 1080 in NVidia 2D surround. I am most likely going to upgrade to the GTX 1080. The main issue is my budget does not allow for me to purchase 2 of these right away. My plan is to get another GTX1080 prior to EOL for the card but not for a while. I am not exactly rocking the latest higher res monitors but they still work for me. So my questions are: 1. Would I see a boost over my 3-way GTX 780 cards with 1 GTX 1080 in 2D surround? If so how much? I suspect so but I am unsure of the amount of boost. Given that the GTX 1080 is similar to 2 way 980 SLI, I assume it could easily handle my monitor config and resolution with decent frame rates and settings. 2. When I buy a second GTX 1080 would my EVGA Bridge (the original LED, 3-way) allow the faster transfer rates between cards or would I need to get a better one? I understand that the new NVIDIA hard bridges have the max performance for 2-way SLI and some of the other LED hard bridges would offer faster performance as well but not quite as fast. I also realize that older SLI bridges would work but that could limit max performance on the 1080's. I may upgrade my monitor set-up next year. Typically I look at GPU's every 2-3 years. Thanks Mark

The cards haven't been released. It's impossible to properly answer until we have cards in hand. We can only give you the same information that YouTube can give at this time, and if it hasn't been tested on youtube, there is no proper answer that will be 100% accurate for you.
While we would all love to speculate, but it's best to wait another 2 weeks for end users with a near identical setup to test this, and be able to give you proper answers.

Thanks Scarlet. I know you are right. I was just hoping someone might be able to give some perspective. From what I can deduce, it looks like one card might be roughly equivalent to 3 GTX 780's in SLI given 3dMark scores from my personal experience and scores on the 1080 benchmark from reviewers. With the additional memory 3 GB vs 8 GB I could see how the extra memory would help at my resolution with many games. Granted this is just a benchmark and it has it's limitations. Time will tell I suppose but if anyone knows of any surround benchmarks with a GTX 1080 please let me know. I wish some of the reviewers would post some but they probably want to wait until they get another 1080 since they are driving higher resolution monitors than I am.

Also can anyone from EVGA verify the speed of your original LED SLI hard Bridges that were released in 2013 or 2014?

According to this video they should be 650MHz.

I have seen this video. This is the version of the EVGA SLI bridge I have: I vaguely recall EVGA talking about the some possible issues with higher resolutions with these bridges and I think at one time they were offering to swap out the bridges if needed with an updated version. The new Nvidia ones are around 650 Mhz. There is reference in the video to older LED bridges that are faster than the old floppy bridges and run at 650 as well but I am not sure if this also includes all the EVGA LED bridges, I assume at least their newer ones. I suppose if I end up running 2-way SLI I should probably get one of the new bridges to maximize performance.

I took your advice and called EVGA Tech support. I was told that the current EVGA SLI LED bridges (old and new)are not HB bridges nor capable of those speeds. They would work as a standard SLI bridge (already aware of that). So while my old one may work I will not be maximizing my performance with my current EVGA LED SLI Bridge. I am not sure which bridges Tom was referring to in the video. Perhaps a previous one that Nvidia themselves put out. The tech support person did mention that they may possibly make new HB SLI bridges in the future.

Yes you will have to replace your old SLI brackets. Nvidia has said the new card SLI bridges allow for more bandwidth and are required to run SLI on the new cards.

Hope he was talking about these bridges as I already own the 3-way one.

That would be my guess Sajin. Hope so for your sake. :)
