Because that is the point of a dual BIOS card, its a tweakers card, as with every card before it with dual BIOS. If it is known that there is no chance utilizing the dual BIOS (mod-ability BIOS/Editor) , and the oversize cooling, and the additional TDP - then that's bad/false marketing - as if it turns out to be the case under NDA etc. the Nvidia partners knew all the while the card would never be capable to be modded, yet still sold it regardless as a package which targets a specific buyer, then this is the problem. That's why I am hoping sooner than later I can, at my risk, void my warranty, and end up with a GTX1080-faster GTX1070.
I don't play games this is my render card that I am upgrading to, I have a dual GPU system already the other card is my graphics driver card nvidia quadro.

Why?

How many answers do you need? You will only need one, though.

Unless you have money to burn, I fail to understand why anyone would risk a high dollar video card in this way.  I guess it takes all kinds to make the world go round...

Let's not forget either that Nvidia did a good job jumping from 1126 (GTX980 Stock), and jumping straight to 1,600mhz, but we don't care; it's beside the point.

Hi guys,

I've tested the GTX Strix bios from User alientek on an EVGA 1080 Classified but I think that can't work correctly....

 BTW: Help is welcome! :)

2.5Ghz @1.1v and whats wrong with it? Stable - water or stock classified cooling? Really, what is a 1070FTW capable of, surely on FTW standard cooling can hit 2.5+

I don't know what his issue is? Other than..

I think he may be taking the micky out of those on here who are negative about the very purpose of purchasing these higher end overclockers cards (by running alternative modded BIOS etc). Good work!
Please post some benchmarks and more info! Looks from graph's it's running and consistent. Can't wait :)

Pretty sure that 2505 isn't stable. As kinping did 2594 on LN2. Running at 2505 for 30 seconds proves nothing.

It's closer to be stable than saying it can't be done or why would you do this to your card from the outset.

What can't be done? He didn't say that. He said he's pretty sure it isn't stable. I'm pretty sure he's right knowing what the cards can do.  There's no way, even on water, that is stable for benching.

It seems like this any kind of bug in Afterburner or so on..

I've shortly tested with Heavens and the result:

 Standard Bios ~ 2120 Clock

ASUS OC BIOS ~ 2500 Clock:

I also thought it couldn't be right because it all was on air.

My question here is:
What could be the cause for the Clock failure?

Shame on me for disappointing you

So putting a bios on a card with 14+3 phases that was designed for a card with 8+2 phases doesn't cause some inconsistency?

What use is knowledge if there is no understanding?~Stobaeus

Putting a GTX Strix BIOS in an EVGA card is like changing the computer controller on your xxx car to yyy version because the engine components are made by the same company...very dangerous.

If you have $$ to burn, then go for it...just too risky for me.

It doesn't do any harm from what I've seen on my own SC card. Except losing 1 DP output as the Strix has 2x HDMI and higher temps if you're on air.
I don't see any point in crossflashing unless you want to squeeze out maybe 10-20MHz more. On air it will still temp. throttle no matter what.
To me it seems like GPU-Z is saying gibberish sometimes, perfcapping at 49*C without even hitting 60% TDP :D

EVGA needs to release a bios like this exclusively for their cards. ESPECIALLY for the FTW and Classy.

this is not a bios but a tool that overrides the bios. i doubt evga would officially release a modded bios for all evga classified users. not to mention ftw cards. the 1070 ftw 226w bios has already shown how conservative is evga compared to other 1070s like 250w galax exoc and 300w zotac amp extreme.

I'm absolutely shocked that it even ran at those clocks...that said, it's definitely not stable.

I'd suggest dropping the clocks down to where you ran it on the stock bios, and try running it again.  Then take smaller steps up, until the score starts to fall off.....these GPUs are SUPER sensitive to heat, so keeping the voltage and temps as low as possible, is always your best bet for better performance.

G'luck lol

Re: GTX 1080 Unlocked Bios! / Voltage/fan limit increased, power limit removed! 2016/11/14 11:07:36 (permalink)
/\   /\    /\    it wasn't actually "running" at those clocks.  The numbers being reported are not correct. T4 BIOS is NOT compatible with Classified.  It IS however compatible with FTW.

To correct this >>>> A new Classified 1080 voltage tool was released a few days ago.

Nothing dramatic, your still hard-limited to 1.25v (so quite safe).

However before this release, we were BIOS limited to 1.093v.  Most classified owners should at least now get 2200 on water.  Some may need "chilled" water depending on Silicon Lottery.

This is currently the ONLY software option for Classified 1080 voltage (Classified is NOT compatible with the ASUS T4 BIOS).  So this release has corrected a terrible disadvantage that the Classified had this round when compared against the FTW.

FTW owners could flash the ASUS T4 BIOS.  Seems the voltage controllers on STRIX/FTW are similar enough for the ASUS BIOS to "talk to" FTW cards.  Be careful though. :-)

  • In the beginning the 1080 Classified had NO waterblock support.  WE NOW HAVE A FULL BLOCK COMING FROM ALPHACOOL :-)
  • We had NO voltage control (we actually had LESS than the FTW due to FTW owners being able to cross-flash the ASUS T4 when it wasn't compatible for us) CLASSIFIED NOW HAS A VOLTAGE TOOL TO MAKE UP FOR THIS :-)
Things are definitely looking BETTER now for 1080 Classified owners.
