Rowne So I purchased my 980ti April 13th but did not register within the 15 days or whatever...now to qualify for the stepup to gtx 1080 I have to buy a upgrade warranty...if I have to buy the extra warranty for 30$ on top of paying 699$ for the founders card minus what I had paid for the 980ti I don't find the upgrade even worth it at this point. Reference cards PCB are just barely faster then the over clocked 980ti....what do you guys think? Also the gtx 1070 is supposed to be faster then the 980ti according to reviews and leaked benchmarks. I think anyone who bought the 980ti pretty much screwed them selves by not waiting for a custom PCB 1080..now it's sell for 30% less on eBay or hold onto the card and buy a 1080ti.
I'm in the same boat. Didn't register and have a 980ti that overclocks to 1500Mhz no problem. If EVGA offers something other than the FE edition, I will probably pull the trigger. Otherwise, i'll just wait for the 1080ti as my 980ti is just fine at 1440p.
That's what I'm saying...the 980ti over clocked is a stock 1080...why would I or anybody else want to drop an additional 100$ or whatever you paid for your ti for maybe a 5-10fps gain at 4k on a 1080 that can't handle being over clocked on the stock cooler?? Makes zero sense, it's the 1080ti or nothing for me at this point. If anything a 2100mghz+ custom cooled 1080 would be considered but not reference. Proof of what I'm saying... look at those clocks OC 980ti vrs stock 1080 and then oc 1080. techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_1080/30.html techpowerup.com/reviews/Gigabyte/GTX_980_Ti_XtremeGaming/26.html And yes I know this compares a MSI but my evga hit 1480mghz anyways and others like the poster above hit 1500+

Because I own an Oculus Rift CV1 and the performance gains for VR are huge! Plus the multimonitor support is amazing on the 1080. For people like me, it'd be more than worth the $100

Apparently I've missed the VR gains? Do you have any info regarding the improvements? I've got a CV1 as well.

It's been quoted by nVidia as being 2-3 times faster in VR because it has hardware to do simultaneous multiprojection. In layman's terms it only has to render a scene once instead of twice for each eye as it's done on old hardware. This greatly reduces the strain on the hardware by essentially cutting draw calls and geometry in half.

ahh thanks. Well maybe I will pony the money up. I have a feeling my 980ti would be sufficient until the 1080ti comes out though. Knowing my luck, they won't be available before 6/8 (when my 90 days ends) anyway.

The 1080ti's definitely won't be available before July. Closer to the end of the year.

When will the 1080 card be available for the step up program? Bought my 980 a week before I heard of the 1080. Have a good amount of days left so hopefully it doesn't take long.

They're on StepUp now! No SC, FTW, or Classified, though. Just the Founders, base/reference, and ACX.

Wouldn't it be best to Step-Up and then sell the 1080 when the Ti gets released?

You cannot Step-Up to any card that is available only to which cards we have on the Step-Up list and at the moment there is no information on which other cards we will have on the Step-Up list since they have not been released yet.

Since the FTW has not been released there is no information if that card will be available for Step-Up. Once the card has been released then you will need to check the list again to see if it has been added.

EVGA step up does not allow step within the same card to start with. The VRAM, core, or a major upgrade would be necessary, and the only cards on the list are reference cards, except in the case of the 970 where a major overhaul was done and the newer cards were added to the step up. In the interest of not being vague, every single word of that is explained right on the step up page. Www.evga.com/stepupI actually made a sticky post at the top of this forum, because people are not reading the step up page. Read: MAJOR UPGRADE. The original 970 was not compatible with lighted sli bridges and had other issues. The 970ftw+ was a major upgrade/overhaul that corrected the issues. Hence why I said more than once and keep spamming it.. MAJOR UPGRADE. The issue with people is they read what they want, rather than reading what they are told. Seeing as the 1080ftw is pre-planned and not an upgrade to a failed version, it is not a major upgrade, it is a standard step and not considered for step up. The 970 was the only non reference model in the step up in the 3 years I have been around.. That made it an anomaly, not a normality. This isn't an anamoly, it is a planned step.

I got an email just now saying "EVGA is happy to announce the product that you requested to be notified is now available." (EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FOUNDERS EDITION), but my EVGA My Products page still says "This product is not available for Step-Up. Please read the terms and conditions of our Step-Up program." Doesn't the EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti VR EDITION qualify?

Did you register your original card within 14 days of purchase? If not, you have to purchase an extended warranty. Then the step up might go through.

Hello houndie, and welcome to the forums! Unfortunately you cannot step up from a step-up; according to the Step-up Terms, "Can I Step-Up a product more than once? No - A product received from Step-Up cannot be used in the Step-Up program."
