I have three of the 780's and plan to move 2 to another build.  I know this question gets asked a lot around these times but would my GTX 780 make a worthy physics card for my 1080's in SLI or is it just a waste of electricity?  :)

Thanks for the feedback.  I will have a bit of breathing room then in the case.  :)

Test it out. I'd be curious to see if it would still be of benefit in games that use GPU PhysX. I know with my set up the TITAN makes a major difference in titles that use a lot of PhysX effects. Especially running at 4K. Whether or not it is worth it, is subjective. If you're getting over 100 FPS min on a 60Hz monitor, then it isn't going to make a perceptible difference.

Thanks.  Perhaps I will give it a test run.

I tried doing something similar with a 980 Ti and a 780 Ti Classified, and later that same 980 Ti with a 750Ti.

In games that fully support PhysX (like Batman) minimum frame rates go up. But there was added instability with having two different GPUs in my system, and overclocking was reduced as well (even with a 1000W Platinum PSU, or a 1350W Gold PSU) due to increased instability which I can only attribute to having two different types/architecture GPUs in system.

And in Borderlands? Crash. Crash. Crash. Take out the PhysX card, stable.

Hopefully the GTX 1080 can overpower borderlands 2 instability in general.  That game is amazing with PhysX maxed out but a complete disappointment with how it actually performs.  My dual GTX 780 Ti's even dip in the 40's at times.

Oddly enough, I've never had that game crash. It does, with a lot of PhysX effects going on, chug even with a TITAN for PhysX. It will probably have some higher average FPS with 1080's but, nothing is going to fix the PhysX issues for this particular game.

    Waste.

    + Infinity and beyond.

If you're getting 2 1080s.... complete waste. Games in general is going to put Pascal SLI to sleep.

I had a 780Ti from my previous set up and am using it with my 1080's.  i've always preferred an sli set up to be balanced and not have one of the cards doing something the other was not for physx.

People say it is a waste but in testing I know the 780Ti is working as it shows upwards of 60% load doing the physx work. 4K is taxing as is so any help is appreciated.
