Kendragon Mine is slightly different than the others in that it hasn't happened in game yet. Just when I exit, and those fans are loud too. Of course I have not play WOW which seems to be a main one.
That might just be because that's what people play. The first time I had it was in American truck simulator, attempting to buy a K200 in the shop. It happened 4 times in a row, so I thought it was the truck and deleted it. But then it started happening in WOW, after wich I started browsing here.... It might be easily reproducable in ATS with the K200, but I haven't tried it since.
I'm having it happen in Thief 2013 as well. In fact, the first go round, it black screened to 100% fans right in the game starting menu (as the menu has 3d rendered backgrounds)

Thus far, I've had it happen in Overwatch, Battlefield 1, and Crysis 3 (and Squad IIRC). In Overwatch, it happens after an hour or two of playing if I have the framerate cap set to 180. If I have it set to 120, I don't seem to have an issue (or haven't played long enough). In any case, if I stress the graphics card hard enough it always crashes eventually.

*sigh*
That's "black screen with fans to 100%" #3 for me. Looks like I'll either have to RMA it and risk getting a card sent back with the exact same problem, or ship it back to the retailer and ask for a refund. It took ages for me to save up enough - almost $1000 CAD - to buy this card. It's the first "high-end" GPU I've ever bought, so it's extremely frustrating to finally be running games in max on 60FPS only for the card to consistently crash :(

I can also report I have the same problem. Via Email support, I was told to submit RMA request at and they will arrange a courier to sort the rest out. Nice! However, every time I apply an RMA request, I get an error page that the request cannot be submitted and the EVGA team has been notified. How annoying! Anyone running in to this issue? Nevertheless I will keep trying. On a more interesting note, the support reply said the following: "we will arrange courier to collect the card from you. Once we receive the card , we will advice our RD have firmware fixed the issue and send back the card to you ASAP." So is it a firmware issue or hardware issue? Mind you, this ticket came from Taiwan support (I think). I seriously hope that either way, this issue gets sorted.

RMA the card, it is a faulty PCB.

Glen20, out of curiosity what has been your speeds on the RMA card you received? Have you noticed a major change with how it looks overall (card)

GhostCamp, Your situation sounds a lot like mine. I did do a driver update and I have not had issues in games that I play. The only issue that I can recreate with 100% success is in Sky Diver 3DMARK.

Has anyone with their replacement RMA been able to overclock their card over 2000 MHz? Synthetic benchmarks are fine at 2000 core but Overwatch, GTA 5 crash at that speed. Mine is only stable at 1974 core / 5500 mem. Not much of headroom for a pricey FTW card =\

I wonder if the SC is the better card in that case? Have these issues cropped up in SC as well or is that in the clear?

I'm dying to know what this physical "should be able to tell the difference on the top near the sli or power connections" I've heard about on here.
Still trying to figure out what to do.. one hybrid rid does this and the other has not yet and there both 1 serial number off from eachother. So wouldn't they. Both have the same pcb??
Seems like this issue would be best served telling us exactly what the issue is insted of leaving it up to everyone's imagination.. cause I can tell ya the feeling around here is that people are afraid there getting a ftw dt "down tuned" card in return.
The good card will run at 2164 and settle around 2088mhz. All that will be lost if my new card comes back at 19×××mhz top overclock for sli.

For me the following works 100% of the time in Elite Dangerous Horizons, at any resolution, using VR or not: 1. Make sure Debug mode is *off* in Nvidia Control panel (best to do this with DDU then fresh install). 2. Start Precision XOC and leave at default (note that I can get the crash to occur without running this but not as often). 3. Launch ED. 4. Once in-game go into *System Map* - any system will do but those with larger/more stars seems to work best. 5. Navigate to one of the stars. 6. Now ZOOM IN to the star while still in the system map. 7. Crash, black screen loud fans, often game is still playing in the background. * I can get the same crash to occur while zooming into Planets, but Stars seem to crash 100% of the time. * I can also get the same crash to occur while entering super-cruise while looking sideways out of the cockpit at a Star (not as frequent). * Once I enable Debug mode in Nvidia Control panel the game is almost 100% stable, but has still crashed. * I removed and re-downloaded game from Steam to no effect. Before I returned mine I noticed it didn't matter where the temps were at, at least on the two I had anyway. They would crash anywhere from 40c to 70c. Just depended on which game you were trying. The more and more I read in here it sure makes me glad that I just returned for a full refund. Unfortunately issues are expected with electronics. Sometimes they are minor and sometimes major. Just the way it is. I still will be going EVGA next time I need a card, power supply, etc.. Their customer service is top notch in my book.

Received my new 1080 FTW after RMAing my faulty one, very disappointed to find it has crazy coil whine and won't overclock anywhere near 2.1ghz like the old one did, I should have just gotten the super clocked one from the start and saved on it... nothing about FTW is for the win...

Mine also does this, highly disappointed as my card would turbo out of the box over 2k. I opted evga for their excellent customer service over Asus. Sadly it didn't work out this time around. What you see is truly what you get with this edition of the card.

Well sounds like you got one of the fixed cards since they have a lower boost speed and dont overclock that great ..sorry to head about the coil though.

If this happens with my first RMA then I'll be getting a full refund. I don't pay out $700+ for a product for this sort of experience.

Is it me or are some pages missing? Funny thing is Gsync caused my GTA 5 crashes I guess. Disabled it and GTA 5 didn't crash on exit. Got home after work and tried agian with gysnc on and it exited fine. I am confused now. May have to cancel RMA with newegg. I sure wish I had a waterblock. Nevermind, spoke too soon. I'm not dealing with this anymore. I didn't pay this much to have issues.

Welp, I thought I was lucky and didn't get the problem at all, but happened to me once while I was playing Witcher 3 yesterday, both monitor turns black, fans sound like a jet engine. After the hard reset, I go in a play again for a couple of hours without any issue. Ever since I got the card, I've been playing Overwatch and BF1 without any issue so I guess I'll try to hold off any sort of RMA until the problem is happening consistently. Any idea if EVGA allows a combination of RMA and step-up? Kinda wanted to upgrade to Hybrid to lessen the heat.

Apparently if you are looking to RMA to EVGA Taiwan, a batch of fixed? 1080 will only arrive from next week. Although my support query was about their RMA system/website not working (EVGA TW), they didn't really answer my question whether the RMA system is down atm. Anyway here is what they said: Dear Customer
Sorry for the issue, please process RMA with the place of purchase first to see if they can offer quick swap service.
If you would like to process RMA with EVGA directly, can you hold RMA until next week ? Since the new card replacement will be arrived Taiwan next week. Thank you Unfortunately, I don't live in a area where I can easily swap from the vendor who sold it to me. In fact it's passed the 7 day purchase exchange T&C, so I guess I have to wait till next week for RMA.

Got the new RMA card yesterday from Germany, I've tested the card and so far no issue.... I'm still anxious as it was happening any time after few hours of gaming with the old one.... I didn t notice any visual change close to the power connector vs former card.. also @ stock it overclocks @2025 Mhz by defaults like the older one. I would be much more confident knowing what has been changed on the card...

TheGuz4L Has anyone with their replacement RMA been able to overclock their card over 2000 MHz? Synthetic benchmarks are fine at 2000 core but Overwatch, GTA 5 crash at that speed. Mine is only stable at 1974 core / 5500 mem. Not much of headroom for a pricey FTW card =\
I wonder if the SC is the better card in that case? Have these issues cropped up in SC as well or is that in the clear?
Unfortunatly i have the exact same problem with my GTX 1070 SC... But i don't see many posts about the 1070 SC with the same problem
