Seems on par and slightly better than a 980 ti.

HardOCP has one up as well: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2016/05/29/nvidia_geforce_gtx_1070_founders_edition_preview#.V0ueL2grKUk

Does anyone else really not like the HardOCP "Highest Playable Settings" benchmarks?

Looking at The Witcher 3 benchmark, they compare the GTX 1070, the GTX 980ti, and the Fury X. All using different settings, all having different frame rates. They are pointless.

They also include their "apples to apples" comparison with equal settings.

Very nice. Properly be able to pick up 2-3 for the price I paid for each TX a year back. Can't complain with that performance really. More so once aftermarket stuff comes out.

Indeed. A large incremental leap forward in graphics power available to the average enthusiast.

Their reviews are the first and only reviews that hold any weight for anything I purchase. The point of "highest playable settings" testing is to give real world best FPS/Image quality in games. They are doing this to show value. Look at the 980Ti and 1070 comparison. They are basically telling you if you buy a 1070 you will see little to no gain coming from a 980Ti. That is valuable information to us the consumer.

Its one of the reasons I am still running with 680s. The games I play @ 1440p with a gsync monitor in the real world FPS/Image are still kicking arse.

I am waiting for water cooled versions of 1000 series cards possibly Ti versions. Considering Im only playing Hearthstone and Overwatch these days .

Thanks for posting the article, nice read. My guess-timate was right all along

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

Excellent performance for the 1070, no matter how you look at it.  Understand that it is benchmarked against a Vanilla 980TI.  If you benchmark it against the FTW or Classy, it doesn't measure up.  But that's why the performance series exists...to give advantage over vanilla.  However, with that said...you gain 2 GB of memory at a much faster speed, etc.  Given a choice...I say the 1070.  Newer technology with more offerings.

Well you can overclock the 1070 as well and then sure it will measure up with the FTW and classy 980 Ti.
