I'm happy with my 1070 FTW, but coming from top overclock of my 980, plus the $200 extra for the top brother(1080), you think does it worth the move from the 1070 to 1080? Still not decided to return the 1070 for a 1080. Thanks
CPU: 10900KF, RAM: Corsair DDR4 3600MHz 16GB RAM, GPU: EVGA 3080Ti FTW3 Ultra, PSU: Corsair RM850x, Monitor: Asus PG279Q 1440p GSync, SSD: Samsung EVO 960 nvme

Ultimately you're the one that has to make the decision to spend more or not, but I always go for the x80's or xx80's in any generation, so I would say go for it. But my opinion might be a little bias for that reason. Since you already have the 1070 and you're happy with it you may just want to stick with it until next upgrade.

The issue is that I exactly go for GPUs like you do. Had 8800GT back in the day. 680 then 980. The lower price of the 1070 tempted me a bit, but started to feel that I did not make the right move. Go big or go home lol. My screen is 1080p 144Hz which I am fine with. Always I like to get the closest the possible for 120+(max settings and AA) fps in games. Some might say 1080 is overkill for 1080p but in my opinion that's just BS. Many intensive games can't even get to 100fps+(ultra settings and AA) with a 1080 (Witcher 3 for example).

Yeah or Ark xD I get 40-70 (with occasional dips below it) with the 1080 and also in Just Cause 3 it sometimes dips below 100. Of cause this is with ultra settings, and recording with Nvenc while 2 of my 6 Cpu-cores are used for streaming xD Go for the step up, you will be able to keep the card for a longer time and will get great performance xD I mean, it are enthusiast cards anyways - who cares about being reasonable :p P.S.: I went from an (extremely loud) 580 with an i7 2600 to an (almost silent) 1080 with an i7 6800k - that was a hell of an upgrade xD

I was so close to buy 1070 but last minute i decided to get 1080 FTW and from what i experience in gaming i think i made a right choice. A card alone is sick as far as gaming performance goes in 1440p

Honestly, a 1070 is barely even an upgrade to a 980 aside from DX12 support.

The GTX 4xx and above for the most part Supports DX12. http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/dx12/supported-gpus
That's a good one. They technically can, but not well. Personally at 1080p 60hz, a 1070 sounds perfect. I can see the benefit of a 1080 for high refresh 1080p gaming though.
