Just wondering what will actually run this? I tried 2666 on my 3770k but the chip would not handle it with the IMC. Which chip will handle this memory? Does it have to be cherry picked CPU or will one run this without cherry picking?

Ram like that would be good for running at 3000  with tight timings.

    Asus Sabertooth x99
    5930k (4.5ghz)
    16gb Corsair DDR4 (3000)
    EVGA 1000w psu
    Zotac 980ti x 2

but is it going to need a cherry picked cpu or will your average chip do it?

It's DDR4 so you'll be upgrading to at least a i7-6700k for starters.

well yea gathered that. but would not try it if i have to bin chips in order to get it to work

IDK if the 6700k adjusts the IMC controller's speed to make these work at advertised speeds or not. Since I can't afford a 6700k I haven't done much if any research into it. Someone must have found a way to get them to run at that speed. MSI has a Memory Boost feature built into their newer Z170 chipset boards. Maybe that's a requirement or maybe it's not. Someone at the GSkill forums must have some knowlege about these. I consider GSkill to be the finest memory available and is always my first choice when building a new PC. I'll be making an upgrade jump some time in the near future. Whether it'll be a 6700k when the prices drop or a X99 chipset to get as many PCI-E lanes as possible is still up in the air. I'd be interested in your findings as I adhere to the belief that faster is better and I'm going to want the fastest RAM I can find when the time comes.

this was my thoughts but i also believe in tight timings. im going to lurk around and see what i can find but im still interested to see if anyone on here knows whats been used to verify these speeds. if it takes a one in a million chip im out. if it can be done fairly easily im all for it as i need to upgrade anyways.

I am leaning towards an X99 more than anything just for the PCI-E lanes but I can't imagine GSkill making something that isn't widely compatible with all DDR4 motherboards. I agree with finding the tightest timings available. My Ripjaws-X 2133MHz RAM outperforms my Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400 MHz RAM mainly due to tighter timing I think.

yup. im running mushkin ridgeback right now 2133 with timings 9-11-11-28. beat my 2666 hands down. this si why im wondering. if i run those sticks and run them at say 3200mhz how tight i could get the timings.

I just load the XMP profile. I wouldn't know where to start trying to overclock my RAM settings manually. My 2133 MHz Ripjaws-X is 9-11-10-28. I don't remember the Vengeance Pro settings but they were really sloppy like 12-13-13-31. My Ripjaws-X base freq is 1600 MHz while the Vengeance Pro was only 1333 MHz although they were advertised as 1600 MHz. This was a dead giveaway about them just being leftover junk 1333 MHz RAM that was seriously overvolted to reach 2400 MHz. Nothing special here except the false advertising.

My 5960X has trouble running my G.Skill TridentZ at anything above 3200. I am rock stable at 3000 and hit or miss at 3200 but at 3400 which is the set I have I cant get it to post no matter what timings Volts or Cache volts I set.

I figure my chips IMC just cant handle that much which I have read is not uncommon.

yea im wondering if the 6700k or 6950x will run that speed. this is what im wonder about running it. more along the lines of the 6700k because i doubt anyone can answer about the 6950 yet
