***The title is meant to disguise what we're doing, AB probably isn't forum surfing very much right now*** ***AB discovered on 2/2, D'OH!*** ***Thread title changed back to original to draw more help to the effort*** ***Drastically updated this post several times to account for the help of everyone posting here, you guys are great*** PURPOSE: To show our support for AB, who has contributed a lot to Folding atop everything else he's done for our community. If you're interested, would you guys mind switching over a few of your GPUs on your personal rigs? Let's give him a small boost during this very difficult time. GOAL: See if we can get AB to 10,000,000 before midnight, February 15th 28th* | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | GOAL REACHED! 10,000,000 for AB! He's in the top 25! Thank you to the EVGA community for your tremendous generosity. AB, we've always got your back! | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | * = before the next EVGA Bucks Folding promotion begins... Extended by EVGA to the 28th as of 2/16/10). [thanks to Slayer for suggesting this goal vs. a date cutoff] [Shane has confirmed that this will not interfere with promotion] [thanks to several for suggesting we keep going past 6mil until Feb 15!] [thanks to the commitment of all for keeping this going even after the original deadline] WHY: If you haven't seen this: R.I.P. My Son [Thanks to DutchForce for pointing this out for those who haven't seen it] HOW: Switch over your GPU Folding clients to fold for "Afterburners". Once you install the GPU Folding client (found here), right click the tray icon molecule and select "Configure" >> "User" tab >> User name "Afterburners" >> (optional) Team 111065 >> close and restart the client. You're obviously welcome to start or swap your CPU clients as well, I just suggest GPU because it's easy to install and reconfigure. Here are his stats, look at his PPD soaring with all your help: AB's Stats [Thanks to DutchForce for the better link] OTHER SUPPORT: Slayer has also started creating an e-card for members to sign. You can find info about it through the first few pages of this thread and by going here: Slayer's card for AB THANK YOU to everyone who has or decides to contribute, especially you guys who really got the ball rolling on this and the card project. It's really inspiring to see people who don't even Fold starting for the first time to contribute to AB's point boost. This was just meant as a small gesture and you guys have made it much more meaningful 6,000,000 2/4/2010 7,000,000 2/8/2010 8,000,000 2/13/2010 9,000,000 2/21/2010 10,000,000 2/25/2010 [Thanks to Heydabop for snagging the 10mil banner screen!] Afterburners reaches TOP 25! 2/24/2010 [Thanks to DutchForce for another great find!]

I updated the title so it's not as obvious, still waiting on replies though. Seems like a really simple, quiet way to show support as forum/Folding members.

I don't mid doing it. We could get him to 6mil pretty quick. I was thinking about sending a card but that would just not be very practical to send it to the 50+ people that would want to sign it. It would end up being 2 months by the time he got it, maybe more.

theGryphon I totally understand your feelings that you wanna do "something" but I'm not sure this is what he'd want. Idk, I might be wrong... I assume he wouldn't want this, because he's very modest like that That's why I changed the title so he wouldn't notice/make a deal of it. He'll probably be very busy concentrating on everything else going on and not worrying about the small stuff like Folding, so I figure we can help him out, and if in the future he notices the point jump he'll probably figure people switched anonymously. If nothing else we can keep his PPD going while he is focusing on the bigger things in life. It's a very small, practical, and fitting gesture on our parts, which is why I suggested it. If nothing else can someone just confirm that "AfterBurners" is his Folding name so that at least I can donate some points if I choose to individually?

Cool. Once I start my folding up again I will change the clients. Been playing ME2 lately so only been folding @25%. I am sure EVGA will be fine with it, I remember we were allowed to help 1337h4l get his 780i when his died.

TBH I didn't know what had happened with him until I stumbled upon it in the other forums. As soon as this SMP2 A3 WU is done I'll switch my Phenom II X4 955 over to him, and will switch over both my GTS 250's when I get home. Depending on how much I use my computer I can give up to ~18,000PPD. EDIT: Alright, the Phenom 955 (phooey, got an A1) is folding for him, as is one GTS 250. In two hours the second GTS 250 will be folding for him.

I'm just switching GPUs since I had to fiddle with CPU VMware quite a bit to get it to accept my user name in the first place. For some reason whenever I think of AB I think of GPUs, probably because he's always making jokes about his TRI-SLI obsessions/regrets Thanks for the help guys. The email idea was cool too, let me know if you do it.

I will see if I can get her to start one. Edit: she has agreed but we need some ideas on what everyone would like to say and what type of graphic. I don't want to try and speak for everyone here. She also had the idea of scanning in your actual signature and we could put that in the card. You can post here or send me some PM. I can also get on AIM (slayer_13666) and I can write down the ideas or post them here.
