Just a quick GPU Console Client question regarding this 8057 WU.  Is anyone using the GPU Console Client (6.41), with a Kepler and receiving the 8057?  I've never been able to even get Kepler and Console Client to work, but just wanted to see if someone has done it.  I know that V7 has all this covered, but I still prefer the Console.

i would direct you to my earlier post on betateam flag for v6
someone at FF has received them using the gpu client

The -betateam argument doesn't work with both the Console Client (6.34) and a Kepler GPU.  I had already tried that before I posted my question and the WU just sits there and will not process.  It is very similar to what everyone experienced when we attempted to Fold on a Kepler (using V7 or Tracker) without the -beta argument in the early days of Kepler.  My best guess is that the person at the FF (that reported using the Console Client and the -betateam argument) is Folding on a Fermi GPU.  Keplers are just a "different animal" when it comes to trying to use any Client other than V7 to Fold on them from my experiences.  It appears to me that Keplers will not be supported by PG with anything other than the V7 Client.  But I still hope for it to work even if I'm in the minority of people that like the Console.

Did you try Folding@Home Client console Version 6.41r2?
Also try running -configonly and add to the line extra_parms= -gpu 0 -verbosity 9 -betateam
With these I would also do a maunal download of v2.25 core then add it to the GPU folder.
Backup the old v2.22 before over writing. Client.cfg should end up looking something like this.

Unless the v7 client is giving you problem I just couldn't see why anyone would want to stick to using console clients

Because it much simpler to config you have more control over configuring the client & gives better performance.
Just my 2 cents of a dime.

you need to DISABLE -advmethods and manually add -betateam to the extra_params= section of client.cfg

Has anyone gotten the "-betateam" parameter to work with GPU Tracker?

My clients don't want to start back up after the modification.

When you try to modify the client.cfg file in wordpad or notepad it will become corrupted.  The file isn't actually text, but rather binary (http://fahwiki.net/index.php/Client.cfg).  Now that it is corrupted you need to delete the tracker folder and reinstall.  I couldn't get it to work without the reinstall.

Use the latest tracker for kepler, where the -advmethods checkbox actually enables -betateam flag instead.  http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=1624942

That's what -config or -configonly are good for: editing the client.cfg so it doesn't get corrupt.

Folding@home-Win32-GPU.exe -configonly

BTW Wordpad shouldn't be use it will become corrupt, notepad works fine, been using it for years.
But the very best way is to use the -config flag then there is no chance of corruption.
-configonly is best used when you only want to make changes but not start the client
after the configuration is done.

Been out of folding for a bit and would like to get my 580s back folding .. I quit running beta before I stopped folding a few months ago since the units then ran soo hot and used lots of power . If I switch back on beta how is the heat and power consumption with the current beta units ?

I think folks posted so fast we missed your question... I have not heard of any heat issues thus far with the 8057 Beta's.

i swear i posted this when i woke up.....

Had 1 or 2 overnight, HFM has 2 entries for the 8057 wu but the time stamp is way wrong on 1 of them. Shows it finished 2 hours before it downloaded Looks like i got credit from 2 of them but not really sure, EOC and HFM numbers don't add up. IDK its whatever.

was getting a TPF of 2:07 and got credit of 17,942 on my 660 ti on the one i can track. HFM history is showing all zeros for credit and PPD, not sure if it needs updated again or has something to do with the WU being in beta.

Client.cfg should end up looking something like this.
...

Yes, I'm using ver 6.41r2 and it is installed on two of my rigs (one that has a Fermi GPU and the other that has my Kepler GPU).  The -betateam argument works just fine for the Fermi GPU, but will not process the WU on my Kepler GPU.  The log shows that I get all the way through the initial setup of the WU and through the "Entering M.D." stage of the process.  The Kepler stops at the same point in the WU process no matter the WU so far.  It stops after the line that says is "Calling fah_main args: 14 usage=100".  After that nothing more is reported and the WU is not actually processing.  Looking at the Kepler usage, you can tell that nothing has fired to put any stress on the GPU and the GPU Usage does not run up to 100% as it should when Folding.

Regarding the "core" in use, the WUs that I've been getting using the -betateam argument call for/require FAHcore_11.exe.  The WUs that I've tried to run so far on the Kepler (with Console Client) have been a 5766 and a 10503.  In the log, it says "Core required: FahCore_11.exe".  So, unless there is something I'm missing, the 2.25 Core isn't going to have any effect with those WUs and would not be required.  Beyond the requirements of this sexy Beta 8057 WU, I can't get to first base running a standard GPU WU using the Console Client.  It has been that way for me every time I've tried to Fold on my Kepler using that Client which is why I say that V7 appears to be the only PG designed tool for Kepler Folding.

Just for clarification, are you actually using those suggestions that you shared on an actual Kepler with 6.41r2, or were those thinking out loud ideas?  I'm just not reading about people that are actually Folding on Keplers using the Console Client unless I've missed it somewhere.

I've been aware of the Tracker thread for a long time and even used that method initially to Fold on my Kepler.  But the Tracker tool has no bearing on my question/thoughts which relate specifically to using the 6.34 Console Client to Fold on a Kepler.  I had also previously seen Uncle Fuzzy's thread that you shared, but since it was not a Kepler (his laptop with a GTX460), I quickly realized that it did not relate to what I was trying to do with my Kepler and the Console Client.  I'm "all ears" and eyes to see an actual person who is Folding on a Kepler and the Console Client...just haven't found one yet.  It's no biggie though and I appreciate the replies.  I just think that the Console Client's days are numbered with new technology GPUs.  Keep workin' those 8057s while you can get them and in whatever fashion you can work 'em!!

These projects don't show up on the regular psummary list but on the psummaryC list (incl. advance and beta projects).
So if you direct HFM (Edit -> Preferences -> Web Settings - Project Download URL) to that list they will show up.

also something to consider
I found a post referring to GPU2 being discontinued end of this year or next (on FF)
it's also why ps3 is being discontinued

could be the reason for QRB and the new core
gpu3 only and it will force people to upgrade

uncle fussy was using only the console version
Nothing was running except a GPU3 client and TeamViewer to monitor the boxes in the basement.

FERMI's only

but the modified tracker can do Kepler (see tracker thread in guide section)

There is a way to force core 15, as I have done it & that is what you would have to do with Kepler in order to fold on it.
I don't have a Kepler card, but I have forced core 15 WU's to run on a 260GTX & even a 8800GT/8800GTX.
The sad part is I can't recall the exact method I used to get that to work. I was just thinking out loud.
But I think if you can get it to download a 15 core WU & had the updated 15 core it would fold on Kepler.
I'll look threw some of my rigs & settings I've use to see if I can come up with exactly what I did to make it fold
on core 15 on older cards. This may help get Kepler folding with the console version.

i swear i posted this when i woke up.....

HFM wasn't showing any credit or PPD for me either
How to fix:
http://forums.evga.com/fb.ashx?m=1779092

DutchForce

These projects don't show up on the regular psummary list but on the psummaryC list (incl. advance and beta projects).
So if you direct HFM (Edit -> Preferences -> Web Settings - Project Download URL) to that list they will show up.

Thanks

Still have that odd one with the time stamp issue. Download was at 11/10/2012 3:48 AM Completion at 11/10/2012 1:26 AM, PPD 17,341, Credit 2549
Ran all 100 frames and no I'm not drunk either

you need to DISABLE -advmethods and manually add -betateam to the extra_params= section of client.cfg

Has anyone gotten the "-betateam" parameter to work with GPU Tracker?

My clients don't want to start back up after the modification.

Sorry for the confusion, I'm not using the console or v7 versions. Has any got the -betateam parameter to work with FAH GPU Tracker v2 and Fermi cards like GPUs: 2x eVGA GTX-580@920-895Mhz - eVGA GTX-460@900Mhz - eVGA GTS-450@900Mhz ? I guess I'm corrupting the client.cfg file, when editing with notepad. How can you edit the file?

also something to consider
I found a post referring to GPU2 being discontinued end of this year or next (on FF)
it's also why ps3 is being discontinued

could be the reason for QRB and the new core
gpu3 only and it will force people to upgrade

Here's proof that these WU's can be ran on the older harware.
I'll try to find the projects I ran on the 8800's & post those.
They maybe trying to phase out older hardware, but this clearly shows that these can be ran on such.
The time is just matching, because there not running the project, it was longer TPF for each 260 on p8101.
If I recall right it was like 5:38 for the 260's Tpf & the PPD  was lower that what's shown.
