oops I guess I can run gpu wu in BOINC:

from:
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/GPU_computing

so basically a CUDA, STREAM, or OPEN CL capable gpu will run boinc gpu wu.

specifically for Collatz Conjecture:
http://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/index.php

System Requirements

  • Computer running Windows or Linux
  • Catalyst 8.12 or later drivers for ATI GPU processing and a CAL 1.3 capable GPU
  • nVidia 190.38 or later drivers for nVida/CUDA GPU processing and a CUDA capable GPU
  • For ATI GPU processing, BOINC 6.10.10 or higher is recommended.
  • For MAC OS X CUDA processing, BOINC 6.10.29 is recommended with CUDA toolkit and drivers 2.2 or later.

I am successfully processing GPU tasks for Collatz Conjecture on my 480 but my older 260 will not pull GPU tasks.  I am guessing that BOINC is not properly detecting my hardware.

By default, if you have a 480 and 260 in the same system, the 260 is disabled. What you need to do is go to your BOINC data directory. This is located at:

Win XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC\
Win 7: C:\ProgramData\BOINC

Create a new file called cc_config.xml in the BOINC directory. Put in the following:

<cc_config>
   <options>
     <use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>
   </options>
</cc_config>

Save and restart BOINC. Check the BOINC event log which should now show the GTX 260 as being used.

Thanks for the heads up LR.  Good info but in this instance I have only 1 GPU in each of the three systems I have.  But I do have a extra 260 lying around that I might throw in the mix that would definitly benefit from this.

Thanks again!

Any chance you're using v7 of BOINC on Win? If so don't check the Protected Application Execution box during install or it won't recognize the GPU.

Sweet thanks, I was wondering why only my 550TI was being used when I have both that and my 580 in there, this worked for me.
