The new 980 Maxwell (GM204) is certainly impressive. But I saw a note in the Hexus review that this is not the big gun, "The bigger, faster, meatier GM210 is being kept under wraps for a while yet...."
So, when can we expect this new and bigger GPU? I have a 780Ti, so I don't know if there's much advantage to the new card for me especially in the flight sims I play. Opinions here? Thanks.

Yea, may be hard to justify the jump to the 980 from my 780ti right now.

I'm personally waiting for GM210 to eventually come out to drive price down and competition from team red to come out to drive prices down even farther. Then I'll make my purchase. My 670 will still last me for a while since I'm using a 42inch TV as a monitor. I'll probably buy a nice big 120hz monitor with my gpu.

I would guess GM210 in February or March 2015 $699-$749.99 , I will also be waiting  on them!

thats not even a jump anyway. just a minuscule step up and in some cases no better at all.

I too am impressed with the 9xx series cards, particularly the performance/power/heat ratio. But having come from a pair of 780Ti:Sc:ACX to a pair of TitanBlack:Sc:ACX I'm good waiting for the nVidia's next generation. I've had em all from 680, 780, 780Ti, 290, 290X and now the T.B.'s. If I were AMD I'd be concerned with nVidia's new performance & pricing. When I got the 680's with 4G they laughed, now with T.B.s @ 6G they laugh again. There's no such thing as too much memory!

+1 I was going to build on 980s but there was almost no perfirmance gain and no ARM chips like was rumored. Wait until 980Ti comes and gives a performance boost. The quicker the 390x comea out the quicker the 980Ti comes out.

So, when can we expect this new and bigger GPU? I have a 780Ti, so I don't know if there's much advantage to the new card for me especially in the flight sims I play. Opinions here? Thanks.
What FlightSim do you play?  Typically, they are CPU-bounded mainly because the physics of the game is still offloaded on the CPU.  In that case, a better CPU, either by a higher overclock or more cores is recommended.  Not that a better GPU isn't worth it, that is up to you since everyone has a different idea of worth.

Most people that read rumors have known about GM210 for months, the decision to bring it will be due to the state of competition.  Just go back two years: AMD's top dog (Tahiti) matched up with nVidia's midrange (GK104), so there was no need for nVidia to bring in the big gun (GK110), except if they could fetch a nice premium (Titan series).  They then to saturate the high-end folks with another medium premium (GTX780).  The only reason GTX780 Ti came, and GTX780 dropped in price, was because AMD finally reemerged with Hawaii-Pro and Hawaii-XT.  Making GTX780 Ti made the original Titan obsolete, so they made Black.

By coincidence, AMD is right back where they started with a power-hungry Hawaii going against a power-efficient GM204.  If this entire sequence of events has to happen again, I say GM210 shows up as another $999 Titan type of product first (mainly since GTX980 is faster than Titan BLack and future double Vram versions will really make it obsolete and ripe for succession.  If you're not willing to pay $1000+ on a Maxwell Titan-type, then you better hope AMD brings something to the table that can take sales away from nVidia, if you really want GM210 cheaper (it is the only wildcard left before 20nm comes).

All I can say is be careful what you wish for; don't assume you'll get what you want at the price you want.

For Intel processors, 0.122 x TDP = Continuous Amps at 12v [source].

Sorry for the late response. Was busy all weekend. The sim is IL2 Battle of Stalingrad. It is an excellent flight sim. I think you're right in that it will benefit from both a fast CPU and GPU. I will just wait around like a lot of others to see how this plays out. Price will be of concern as always. It will be neat to see what the performance difference will be. Thanks for your input. jump at 980 from 560ti, but if i be was at 780ti i'll be waiting for gm200 or even pascal, just depend what future games will requare, any way i don't understand people who get gm204 from r290x or from 780ti
