One of the things I got with my gaming rig was a G skill memory fan , but it came in blue :( Everything I have is red (case, fans even mouse and key board). So instead of changing everything to blue, I opted to stick with red :)

2 things. First, can someone tell me what size these L.E.D.s are (I think they are 2mm or something). I have a caliper to measure bulb size, but for the life of me I cant find my old bulbs. I got the fan last Christmas and found out they where blue, so I took the LEDs out and it has set on my desk ever since. (the EVGA superblock CPU cooler I'm using doesn't allow room for my RAM fans, so I didn't put them back in). But since I'm looking for a new/smaller cooler, I figured I'd start looking for red LEDs.

And second, has anyone actually done this? To me it seams like a strait forward bulb swap, but I cant find any records on anyone doing this. Can I just get 12 volt (propperly sized..2mm?) bulbs and slap them in?

Very sorry XrayMan, I'm still learning all the places on this forum. I'll look harder next time before I post. Thanks for moving it.

I have one of these GSkill RAM coolers and it uses 3 LEDs on each fan. It might be easier to replace the fans with the lighting color of your choice. If you decide to replace the LEDs make note of which lead is on the side of the LED that has the flat edge. This edge marks the Cathode and needs to be installed to the same terminal to insure proper polarity or the LED will not work. These LEDs from Radio-Shack look like they should work: http://www.radioshack.com...jsp?productId=12611319

If you have already unsoldered the LEDs and don't remember which lead was the Cathode just let me know and I will look at mine and let you know which is which. Good luck.

I thought about replacing the fans, but I also thought about building  a new mount, then I wondered why I got the fans to begin with :) I'm just going to replaced the LEDS, its much easier.

Yes, rather stupidly I removed the bulbs and forgot which way they went in. But the board is marked positive and negative, so that helps.  The link you posted showed a 3mm bulb, I assume that is the correct size? (thats sounds right). I plan on going through for my bulbs.

Thanks for the help btw. If you could take a close up of the raer of the fan, it would help a bit. I would like a look at how the old bulbs here mounted.

    Thanks again.

The Cathode is marked by the flat edge and connects to the (-) terminal. I don't have anything metric to measure correctly but 3 mm seems about right. The only reason that I have the fans is because they were included with the first set of 2133 MHz RAM I bought from NewEgg. At first they looked kind of cool but now they just sit in their box in the closet. lol

Ok, this project took WAY too long to get back to. But its done now and I like it :) A few LEDs from Lighthouseled.com , great place for lights.

Onto pictures!! The first two pictures are NOT mine (stole them from the internet :) ). The memory fans come stock with blue LEDs while their logo is in red . But some plastic cutting and a few solder joints alter I've got a red set now.

This is what red looks like.

The superblock has a rather large foot print, so it kind of clashes with the fans. But I'll be taking out the superblock, the i3 doesn't need that kind of cooling. The lower fan does have 1 bad LED slot. I may have over heated the board so something. I tried 2 different LEDs and they didn't work.

Dont mind the dust, shes due for a deep cleaning.

The hack job didn't turn out too bad :)
