I'm having issues w/ my system and waiting on a reply to my support ticket. In the mean time though I thought I'd post. I'm running a Z170 FTW bios 1.07, w a 6600k. Stock speeds. I have tried 1.08-1.09 as well., 4x8gb Muskin dd4 3000. Crucial M500 240gb SSD, tests great in SSDLife Pro. I've removed all other hardware and taken it down to 1 stick of mem. I've tested all mem sticks in slot 2 and they test AOK in Windows Mem test and Memtest. I've tried 2 other PSU's currently using a Corsair CX850M(12.036-11.962 in bios and windows 10 under e-leet). System freezing randomly w/ Power-Kernel 41 in the event viewer every time. I had a bios chip go bad when the system hung on a bios flash when 1.09 first came out. Got a new chip from EVGA, and it worked great for about a day...system started freezing again. Thus the back to 1.07. It was somewhat stable. Yesterday i was watching temps and voltages in E-leet and w/ my memory in XMP 1 mode, and if I clicked restart in windows it would freeze. this is the only way i've been able to replicate a freeze. I have to hard reset to get system to reboot. With memory in automatic mode it wont freeze w/ E-leet open. I've uninstalled all evga software e-leet and precision and same results :( Tempted to try windows 7 and see if it's a windows 10 issue...Anyones input would be awesome... been fighting a long battle w/ all this flashing and testing :( I should add I also removed my video card(GTX 970) and have had the same issues w/ the onboard video as well.

Thanks, Pearhead

Hello,

are you running any overclocks or voltage adjustments on your system currently?

Is your memory running at auto or did you set XMP?

Re: Freezing system... :( 2016/11/20 17:30:54 (permalink)
Nope all stock voltages...no OC. With memory on auto, system will still freeze on it's own at any random time...(5 min to 1 day) but can't make it freeze by doing anything in particular. If I set it to XMP mode (where it was fine for nearly the last year) the freezes seem to happen quicker and that's when I can open E-leet, hit RESTART and it freezes every time. Weird huh?? :(  Right now it's somewhat stable under bios 1.07 w/ just one stick of memory, but will freeze eventually. If I flash to BIOS 1.08 or 1.09 I get more BSOD than just hard freezes.

the 3 bsod's i usually get are "System Service Exception, memory management errors, and IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL...might be some others but those are the ones i get off the top of my head. More so if I try BIOS 1.09... more freezing w/out bsod under 1.07 currently. Not really sure how to investigate them anymore than what they say on the BSOD itself when it does occur. I installed Blue Screen View, an app that showed me I also had a SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED...attached is the 4 BSOD it shows...

Looks like a ram/cpu problem to me. When running memtest did you test each stick individually? If not, I would recommend retesting them. Run the IPDT on your cpu to make sure it's ok.

I did test each memory stick individually. I also tried a stick from a friend w/ an identical build. I ran the IPDT an it errors on PCH. I've made sure chipset drivers are installed. Bad cpu prob huh?

Not necessarily. Do you have the intel rapid storage technology driver installed? If no, install it and retest.

Awesome help there!!! CPU totally passes. Hoping that driver issue has been the headache all along.  I'm thinking when I first had this board I was running Windows 7 and upgraded to windows 10, thus the driver was there from windows 7... a few months back when I started having this problem I had just done a clean install of Windows 10, and prob didn't have that Intel Rapid Storage Driver. You'd think that would be listed on the drivers download page?? Well will report back later as to how things are running!

Re: Freezing system... :( 2016/11/23 04:35:54 (permalink)
Well back w more bad news. After getting that Intel Rapid Storage driver installed and seeing how it was running. I put all my memory back in, loaded up the pc and it ran all night. Yesterday I left with it at stock levels both cpu and mem, and ran Prime95...came home to it still running. I clicked stop and it went 11.5hrs without any issues. System then almost emidiately went to BSOD w MEMORY MANAGEMENT stop code. I powered down and restarted. Kept getting that same BSOD as well as a POWER FAILURE and IRCQ NOT LESS THAN BSOD. I then took all my memory back out reseated one stick and proceeded to flash back to 1.08 BIOS because most of my BSODs.. started when I went to 1.09. My system hung flashing back to 1.08 and I'm now unable to even get into BIOS. I'm hit w post code "0d"... This is the second time a bios chip has done this to me trying to flash back to 1.08 Will add this to my support ticket and go from there... My current support ticket has advised me to replace my PSU, stating it's fluctuating to much. Its between 12.036v and 11.962v from within BIOS and from within Windows 10, using ELEET it shows it fluxing from 12.036 to 11.889 at times. Oh the headache grows... Happy Turkey Day to all this weekend...

I'm curious if the BIOS flash failed when flashing from Windows or flashing directly in the BIOS? I hear so many stories of BIOS flashing from Windows bricking their BIOS, I can't understand why it is a supported option.

Flashed from within BIOS... I'd never trust windows for that

You said you used two psu's... was the second one newer than the Corsair CX850M? How much did the second psu fluctuate inside the bios? Did you have the same problems using the second psu?

Re: Freezing system... :( 2016/11/23 11:44:46 (permalink)
The bios/e-leet could be reading the voltages wrong. I'd suggest using a multimeter to check your voltages under idle/load conditions.

PSU Testinghttp://www.jonnyguru.com/...estion&ndfaq_id=28

You want all three rails to be within ATX spec, ATX Specification: 12V: 11.40 to 12.60,  5V: 4.75 to 5.25,  3V: 3.135 to 3.465. If any of your rails hit the minimum spec I would replace the PSU with a new one.

HOW TO: Properly load your system when checking PSU voltages.
#1 Download & Install Prime95
#2 Download & Install Unigine Heaven 4.0.
#3 Open both Prime95 & Heaven 4.0 Run Small FFT test for Prime95. Run Heaven 4.0 @ max settings. Run both of these tests at the same time while checking voltages.

NOTE: Always check your hardware with your motherboards BIOS set to default settings.

Pretty sure my 3V was 2.8ish.... I will have to wait on a new bios chip to take this any further.

What is the part number of your Mushkin RAM?

When you get up and running with another BIOS chip, I would manually set the RAM Frequency/Timing/Voltage to the Mushkin specs that are on the sticker of the RAM or from Mushkin's website and not use the Auto or X.M.P. profile settings..Using Auto or X.M.P. profile settings has been known to cause problems..I only see some 2400MHz Blackline stuff on the Memory Compatibility List for your board, but that doesn't neccessarily mean that what you have now won't work..There have been a few BIOS updates to Improve Memory Compatibility and the Memory Compatibility List doesn't seem to reflect that as it should..If you Contact EVGA Support, they may be able to tell you what RAM is added by the 'Improved Memory Compatibility' updates that may not be on the compatibility list.

Incompatible RAM will most certainly cause freezing in BIOS (and otherwise), I've been down that road before..If incompatible RAM causes a freeze during a BIOS update, you're done until it's fixed..Although an extremely good indication, just because RAM passes Memtest doesn't neccessarily mean it's guaranteed to work in real-world applications, another road I've been down before..Memtest doesn't just test memory modules, it also tests the memory subsystem too..MemTest86 Technical Information..I'm leaning towards a RAM issue and suggest getting some known-compatible/tested RAM that's either on EVGA's or Mushkin's compatibility list or poke around the forum and see what others are successfully using..Just get a few cheap sticks for testing purposes at least.

I was already considering grabbing a cpl new sticks. Mine are Mushkin Redline(997205F) PC4-3000 2x8gb 15-15-15-35. Chips being shipped... will have to wait till it comes in. Last one took 7 days. I asked support via a support ticket about these modules a yr ago soon after I built it and they said they were aok.
