Well my new 758 with bios 44 just locked up a little while ago requiring me to reset it to get it going again.  I went into the bios and upped the voltages for the ich two places above auto.  I hope that this will keep it from happening again.  Also my usb was dropping my usb microphone so I would have to unplug and replug it to get it recognized again.

I fixed my USB problem!

Microsoft needs to come out with a fix.
My USB would just shutoff and wouldnt come back on, would have to reboot most of the time. Unplugging it wouldnt work. I noticed also that all the questions about this problem started around the same time. Looked into my windows updates and seen MS came out with a "4 security updates" all on the same day. One of which was the one that will detect blacklists. But I restored my computer to the day before those updates and wala for 2 week now, not one USB problem!

Hope this helps!

Congrats on your fix.  But most of us are having issues outside of windows as well.  Once mine quits working, it won't work again without resetting the BIOS.  Definitely not a windows issue.

I have a problem were my razer mamba mouse will not respond but if I unplu it and pleg it back in it will respond.
It does not happen all the time and having it plugged into a USB block that also has by bulkin wireless adaptor, windows controller and keyboard may not help either.
But the block is powered off its own PSU.
Not that worried to be honest as I love this MB and I don't want to risk RMA'ing to get a bashed up refurb.

Have you tried the fix HalloweenWeed has mentioned of raising your ICH VCore to 1.15v ?

Yip.
Im going to try what someone suggested and not use the front usb ports (just got a keyboard plugged in).

Unplug those headers as well, or you will not rule out the possibility of shorted FP connectors.

is this thread applicable to P55 boards?  because i have experienced similar problems too.

here it is:

   1. Please describe the issue, USB not responding? USB slow?

on POST USB Keyboard will Lit UP but don't respond to any keys
where i press DEL key to enter BIOS Setup

   2. Which USB devices and/or ports are failing?

USB Keyboard ( logitech illuminated keyboard )(all ports including USB Headers) all other USB
Devices will power on (like external hard drive and mouse)

   3. Which motherboard and BIOS revision are you using?

      EVGA 120-LF-E650-TR
      Revision 1.xx / 12
      BIOS version 0400
      Date 11/25/2009

   4. Did this problem occur right away or over time? If so how long did it  take before the problem showed? Does this issue occur on
       every system boot?

Right straight from the box.  newly-installed.  it occurs every system  boot.

   5. Does this issue occur outside of the Operating System? Such as in BIOS?  If not, which Operating System is being used?

yes, upon POST.  but when entering windows OS (windows 7) the USB  devices detected normally.

   6. Has the motherboard been RMA'd by EVGA? If so did the issue go away or  persist?

no.  the motherboard i have is brand new.

Re:For those who are experiencing USB issues 2010/03/01 06:33:25 (permalink)
My problem seems to be more with the sata ports than usb.   I've only had a few times where the usb ports would quit working, and when they did, a system shut down, power off the PSU for 10+ sec, restart fixed those problems.   Like I said though, the usb ports going out is very rare.   Happened once several months ago on the previous bios and once this month on 44.  Board is 759 Limited.

I never really thought much about it, but I recently put in 4 1TB drives in a raid 10, and the drives keep dropping out within 24 hrs.  The drive that drops is always random, and doesn't seem to matter which of the sata ports I try using.   Previously, I had an eclectic mix of random drives in non raid, and they all worked fine.   I was only using three though, not four.   Since the problem didn't start until I went to raid, I'm not sure it's a problem with added the fourth drive or something to do with the chipset and/or sata ports.   I've bumped up the ICH to no avail.   I'm going to take them out of raid and try running them that way in various configurations and see what happens.   If I find anything out, I'll post back, if not I'll just keep watching this thread for updates.

  1. Please describe the issue, USB not responding? USB slow?

Mostly sata problems, usb problems rare, but when they do, all usb ports are affected.  Turning system off, killing power to PSU, and restarting fixes it.

  2. Which USB devices and/or ports are failing?

      all

  3. Which motherboard and BIOS revision are you using?

      E759   bios 44

  4. Did this problem occur right away or over time? If so how long did it  take before the problem showed? Does this issue occur on
      every system boot?

usb problems once every few months.   roughly 4 months before first, then every few months (random), sata only since going to four drives in raid (previously three drives in non raid).

  5. Does this issue occur outside of the Operating System? Such as in BIOS?  If not, which Operating System is being used?

     yes.

  6. Has the motherboard been RMA'd by EVGA? If so did the issue go away or  persist?

no.  would rather not unless absolutely necessary.

From what I can tell my symptoms are not as bad or anywhere near as bad as others in this forums but I was directed to look here and I figured I would post my problem as well.

   1. Please describe the issue, USB not responding? USB slow?

Only happens in games doesn't happen in BIOS or OS only games

   2. Which USB devices and/or ports are failing?

As far as I can tell it is only the ones my Keyboard and Mouse are connected to.

   3. Which motherboard and BIOS revision are you using?

X58 SLI - SZ2Z  (I see there is a newer one put out last month I will try that one tonight)

   4. Did this problem occur right away or over time? If so how long did it  take before the problem showed? Does this issue occur on
       every system boot?

It just started since I went from Windows Vista Ultimate 64 to Windows 7 Ultimate 64.  I did a format first then install it wasn't an upgrade.

   5. Does this issue occur outside of the Operating System? Such as in BIOS?  If not, which Operating System is being used?

nope only happens in games.  doesn't happen anywhere else that I have seen

   6. Has the motherboard been RMA'd by EVGA? If so did the issue go away or  persist?

No cause as far as I can tell this is a driver error not a hardware error since it only happens in games and not in my OS or BIOS

FYI, Jacob has asked me to send him my 760 board that is not correctly working for testing purposes.  They're having trouble duplicating the problem in their labs with new equipment.  So I'm sending my non-working board to expedite the testing process.  They should have it by the end of next week at the latest, which will help narrow down the problem.  I can assure you, they are working on it.

I total agree. EVGA is just hoping the users on the forums sort the problems our ourselves.
Im starting to think EVGA must be a little hobby business run out of someones garage.
What a joke they need users to send them boards to simulate the problem.

Ive said it before but i think its pretty funny EVGA are selling 2 x CPU boards WHEN THEY CANT EVEN GET THE 1X CPU BOARDS working.

EVGA I think some of us would like an update to proove your actualy doing something... and not just waiting for a user to send in there board in the hope the problem is blatantly obvious.

Perhaps its time EVGA hires someone with an electrical engineering degree or who can deal with the problem ?

****UPDATE****
It has now been one month since I disconnected my front-case USB hub, and that has seemed to have solved problems.  HOWEVER, I have tested the hub and there does not appear to be any shorts and the hub works perfectly with my older ASUS board and a friend of mine's Gigabyte board.
The whole time, the case hub has been connected into the USB 1 port on my X58.
Now, I did some additional testing with USB2 where I plugged in a fresh out of the box 5.25 bay card reader and USB hub.  My crashing problems immediately returned.  I then tested this front bay reader in another computer, and it too tested to work perfectly fine.
So I am wondering why I am 2 for 2 in receiving boards that don't play nice with hubs that work perfectly fine on 2 other boards.
Please advise on where I should go from here.  I am a professional graphic designer and photographer, and not having front case ports is a significant issue when I'm hooking up cameras and thumb drives all day.

The 'tone' of my post above is in NO WAY directed to the fellow users of this forum.

Im just abit anoyed because ive only been playing FSX and today I thought i'd try another game... and its kinda anoying when your driving and the keyboard disconnects as the wall approaches :)

I also believe when an issue has been happening for this long a professional company should tell us the plan of action they will be taking to try resolve the issue.  EVGA have offered NO support/anything in this issue.

If this were Asus we would not hear a thing, they would just eventually release a new BIOS quietly a few months after the prob reared it's ugly head. And they might not even state in the BIOS notes that said prob was fixed. That said, I do sympathize with you.

errrmm... im not sure what this means.. technicaly.....
But on totaly unrelated matter I was playing around with the smartfan settings in bios, currently mine is setup to manual/100%, so I changed it to the default setting as I was curious how it would affect heat/noise... then played some games on/off for the last 5 or so hours and the problem has not appeared once!!! Not even the mouse has disconnected. Usualy i see the problem as soon as I login.
hmmmmm.

Re:For those who are experiencing USB issues 2010/03/06 15:45:36 (permalink)
As an update to my problem, specifically in regards to the SATA issue I was having, after taking the drives out of raid and just running them as standard drives, I've not had a single problem.   I even re-connected some of my old drives, to fully max out the SATA ports and PSU, and not one problem.   So, it seems that my problem would be more along the lines of the Intel raid controller being screwed in some way.   Now I'm contemplating getting a dedicated raid card, but that would take up space that I really had intended for other purposes, so then again, I may just pass on using raid on this MB altogether and keep my disks as they are.   I usually keep good backups anyway...

As far as the lack of response from EVGA, all I can say is that I can most certainly empathize with you, but in my experience, EVGA is one of the best companies around for customer support.   Just because they don't post updates everyday (or week) doesn't mean they're not working on it.   Most companies won't even bother with their forums, they expect all complaints, problems, issues, etc... to be sent straight to tech support.   IMO, I think the amount of company interaction on these forums is some of the best I've seen from any company....   I have faith that they are hard at work trying to get these issues solved, but that's just me

  1. Please describe the issue, USB not responding? USB slow? USB is not responding.
  2. Which USB devices and/or ports are failing? All of them.
  3. Which motherboard and BIOS revision are you using? 750i SLI.
  4. Did this problem occur right away or over time? If so how long did it take before the problem showed? Does this issue occur on every system boot? I have had the 750i SLI for around a year and it has not had any problems until a few weeks ago when one USB port on the front panel stopped working. All the others still worked until a few days ago when all of them suddenly stopped working. I've tried about just about everything that was has worked for other people and no luck for me. This has rendered my computer useless.
  5. Does this issue occur outside of the Operating System? Such as in BIOS? If not, which Operating System is being used? Yes it does occur outside the OS. I'm using Windows 7 64x.
  6. Has the motherboard been RMA'd by EVGA? If so did the issue go away or persist? It has not been RMA'd.
It seems like a lot of people have had similar issues so I didn't plan on posting until I made some strange observations. I recently tried to boot up my computer to see if it randomly decided to start working again. I plugged in a small USB memory stick just to see if it would light up as an indicator that it was receiving power. It would light up for a fraction of a second then go out, like it usually did. I was at the boot-up screen where, after you reset CMOS, it asks to either press F1 to continue or Delete in order to configue bios, and I noticed that the white text would change to a different color each time I unplugged then replugged the USB stick. In some cases it turned almost my entire screen a dark red color. This may be completely unrelated but I just thought I should mention it.

I honestly would like to tell you what I think of this post. But I will remain calm on that one and not lower myself to telling you how hilarious your post is. Instead I will do it in the appropriate way.

Ever hear the saying of there are thousands or more with no complaints for every one person there is with a issue? The ones without issues do not post and do not complain for a reason....they do not have to because it works (besides those of us who are here for free to try and help those that need assistance).

All I will say...is that if you really and truly think this, then I wish you luck with all of the other MB manufacturers. This forum is where people get more help and answers for their issues than any other forum for manufacturers of motherboards I can name. If you can find one for me, I would love to see it. Not out of proving me wrong...but so I could utilize it for myself as well.

If you think its *funny* that someone is willing to send their own board to the company so they can help to identify the issue because they cannot there...then wow. All I can say is wow. I guess you must be the person they need to hire? You should send in you credentials/application along with your degree since you know that's what they need? Hell I know I would if I were in your position knowing how they should run their company..I would love that job!

Ever heard of the saying that NO ONE SYSTEM is the same? Im sure you have. Because all that speaks for, in my mind, is that they are helping to support a company they believe in with solving a issue they MIGHT NOT be able to reproduce there....Why? Because they are NOT ALL OF US with the same system. It will help to move them forward as a company and all of us further to a issue that can be fixed in that way.

I know if I had the issue I would offer to ship a board to them no questions asked if it did not interfere with my business.

Re:For those who are experiencing USB issues 2010/03/07 10:43:08 (permalink)
  1. Please describe the issue, USB not responding? USB slow?
      -  USB ports stop responding, i have to unplug and plug them back in, most the time it has to be a different port.  Alot of the time if i plug something into the front it will cause one of the back ones to quit on me and i have to replug whatever is connected to it back in.
  1. Which USB devices and/or ports are failing?
     - so far, the bottom 4, i have been switching between them, the top two have my hard drives plugged into them and it hasnt happened to them yet.
  1. Which motherboard and BIOS revision are you using?
        - 44
  1. Did this problem occur right away or over time? If so how long did it take before the problem showed? Does this issue occur on every system boot?
    - Not every time.  Depends whats being plugged in etc.  If i plug my phone in the front one in the back definitly stops responding, if i plug the device in a different port in the back works perfect.
  1. Does this issue occur outside of the Operating System? Such as in BIOS? If not, which Operating System is being used?
    -  Yes it does.  But i am using windows 7 64bit.
  1. Has the motherboard been RMA'd by EVGA? If so did the issue go away or persist?
    - No being as there is so many people with the same problem i have no RMA'd it.

Re:For those who are experiencing USB issues 2010/03/08 15:28:12 (permalink)
I am posting again on this thread because I just had a USB failure and never had one before.

This morning when I booted I got a "USB device not recognized". I had not plugged nor unplugged any USB device, and my relative humidity was 45%. I rebooted a couple of times and it did not go away. It was my PowerUp GEN-9010 Internal All-in-One Flash Card Reader plugged into the mobo header, it would no longer work. About a week and a half ago I had decreased my ICH from 1.15Vcore to 1.1V. Just now I turned up the ICH voltage from 1.1 to 1.15V and the card reader began working again! I then used it to transfer a pic from my memory card. Seems OK now. Lesson learned: Need 1.15V on ICH Vcore, not 1.1.

EVGA_JacobF

In order to correct this potential issue we need detailed information on the following items

   1. Please describe the issue, USB not responding? USB slow? See above.
   2. Which USB devices and/or ports are failing? Only FP connector, port 2, hub 8. The USB kybd and mouse remained completely operational.
   3. Which motherboard and BIOS revision are were you using? EVGA X58 SLI pkg A1 mainboard P/N: 132-BL-E758-A1 rev SZ2Z
   4. Did this problem occur right away or over time? If so how long did it take before the problem showed? Does this issue occur on every system boot? I've been using this mobo for a month now, prob at least 56 hrs/week. I keep the humidity above 40%. Yes, every boot until I raised ICH to 1.15Vcore from 1.1V.
   5. Does this issue occur outside of the Operating System? Such as in BIOS? If not, which Operating System is being used? Unable to answer, as my peripheral does not work outside of Windows.
   6. Has the motherboard been RMA'd by EVGA? This is a RMAd motherboard.  If so did the issue go away or persist? N/A.

Let me start off by saying my issue has been resolved since i changed the fans from manual/100% to manual/anything (besides 100%)
or auto. Even on auto when they get upto 100% it works perfectly. Has worked constantly since my last post. Now im sure this isnt the problem for everyone but its definetly fixed it for me.

So many ways to reply to your post aswell =)  but yeah im all sorted now so I neednt bother.
Total lack of support of this issue from EVGA speaks for itsself. (allthough as said above, do appreciate the user taking the time to send his own board)

Im actualy quite proud of myself for holding back... (as im sure you were to in your post :) )

Goodluck to the rest of you with problems, hopefully they are resolved soon.

Re:For those who are experiencing USB issues 2010/03/09 12:33:36 (permalink)
I am not going to add all the info here, but I had a ticket opened on my board and was about to RMA it.. my USB keyboard would not wake up till it hit the OS 95% of the time, my front Esata did not work, my rear Esata (on mobo) would not reconize hot swaps but did see the drive if it was powered on on the reboot....

Ok, long story short of it, I had my HAF 932 Esata plugged into the Red Sata port, bottom one... seeing it did not work anyway... I unplugged it.. EVERY since I did that, it I can hit the bios every time now....

Not sure what or why... but I have a work around now, my only board isssue now is the quirk with the rear Esata, but I can live with that seeing I know how to get it to read.

Hope this helps someone, in some small way.

Get the eSATA drivers for the JMicron controllers from this location:

Just look for the most recent one that also has eSATA in the name of the .zip file.

Jacob,

I wrote this on January 14th:
"I have this problem with my E758 motherboard. Approximately 50% of the time when I do a hot insertion (USB Flash drive, BlackBerry, or some other bus-powered USB device), there may or may not be the "OS Sound", and all USB devices stop working (not just the device I inserted, but also the mouse and keyboard). I switched my keyboard to a PS2 variety, so that I can use it to shutdown the system when all my USB devices freeze (Windows key, then right-arrow key, then Enter key). I have learned to never have ANY applications open when I insert my USB Flash drive or my BlackBerry.

Now if I have the USB Flash drive plugged in before I power-up the computer, the USB Flash drive is ALWAYS functional (once I get into Windows, of course). I can not plug in my BlackBerry before I power-up the computer, as the 3 times I tried that, it "crashed" my BlackBerry and I had to remove its battery to recover. Very frustrating.

To avoid the problem as much as possible, I have addes a PCI add-in USB card that I have my printers, scanner, and memory card reader plugged into. I have also added an exteranl self-powered USB hub that I have connected to one of the USB ports on the E758 I/O panel. Since it is plugged in and powered-up before the computer is turned on, it always seems to work fine - and this is now the only place that I plug in my USB Flash drive or my BlackBerry. (OK, once every few days I'll still try the case's front USB ports, just to remind me that they still don't work 50% of the time.)

My normal BCLK is set to 180, but it also occurs the same percentage of the time when at the stock BCLK of 133. My PCIe frequency has been 100 and 101, never anything else. I have raised my ICH VCore from 1.050V to 1.075V, 1.100V and even 1.125V - sometimes I think it helps a little, but none of them vary the success rate significantly - so now I jsut leave it at 1.075V. I also played with IOH/ICH I/O Voltage, raising it from 1.500V to 1.600V, but it did not make any difference, so now it is back at AUTO (1.500V). "

The computer did it with Vista 64-bit, and also with Windows 7 64-bit.  Did it with wired Microsoft mouse, wired Logitech mouse (without Logitech Setpoint software installed), and finally with wireless Logitech Performance mouse MX (with Setpoint software installed). I had the problem with all four BIOS versions that I had tried: SZ2F, SZ2R, SZ2U, and SZ2Z.

The motherboard was serial number XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX and was returned under RMA #XXXXXXXXXXXX. EVGA received it on January 25, 2010.
I was told that there was "No Problem Found" when it was checked. I hope you can find it and test the hell out of it!

Ditto..Exact same happens to me and i have the same hardware also--this has actually fubarred 2 flashdrives of mine so far(out another 100$ cause of this problem dangit)

Re:For those who are experiencing USB issues 2010/03/11 01:34:49 (permalink)
Hope y'all don't mind if I jump in on this thread too.  The problem actually started about 3 days ago and I think it might be a short or something.  I would plug in my phone (which was connected to the front connectors on my case) and next thing I know I get a warning from my battery backup stating no usb connection... Look down and low and behold, all usb it gone.  Seems to fix it after rebooting...
After rebooting, if I plug in my phone it plugs just fine, no problems...  The only thing I changed in my BIOS (e758 SZ1G) is disabled the onboard audio...
Having this system/setup for over a year (with the exception to the battery backup/monitors/extra raptor hd) I was kind of a shock when it happened.  The only issue I currently have with this mobo is the internal dvd drive disappearing (connected to Jmicron, so meh)

BUT... like I said... it probably is my phone as it has happened twice, both by plugging in my phone (and when the computerh as been on for over a day) so I prob shouldnt even post in here... but eh... it's still a usb problem

My phone has been acting weird (MotoQ9h) lately tho... probably explode in my pocket or something..

Ok.... i'll stop rambling, I need to get to sleep

Re:For those who are experiencing USB issues 2010/03/11 09:44:13 (permalink)
I had a weird problem that I think is USB power/windows 7 64 bit related
I keep my ICH voltage at 2.25v

Ok. So I bought a logitech G13 gamepad/keyboard. It is back lighted, has a lcd screen, and only gets it power from the usb port.

Things I noticed lately. I turn on computer. g13 turns on, lights up blue. then when the motherboard is done all its stuff and I hit where its going to start the boot process. I loose back light of my g13. then when Windows shows its start up screen, my g13 powers down, and I noticed the lights on my wireless keyboard hub power down.

Then theres a small pause, and my g13 turns back on (with no back light) and the screen turns black and windows starts to load. As soon as this happenes I get my back light back on my g13.

So it seems like I loose usb power or it goes dim when I am starting up windows, or entering the boot mode (the hard drives are starting to load and stuff) To me, it seems like the motherboard doesnt have enough power to run everthing at this point.

So heres where it gets interesting. I am at 4ghz. 20x200.  Windows loads, like i said, the g13 does its thing.
If I flick on turbo mode to get 4.2ghz. (and yes I have added enough cpu voltage etc to make it boot windows) I get a bsod.

Guess where... Right when windows start screen shows up, the g13 back light is gone, unit is still on, then unit powers off. Windows does that little swirl thing they do with windows, and then theres that pause.

As soon as the g13 powers up (no back light I might add) Windows BSOD's and computer restarts.

Funny thing is I can't even boot into windows anymore at 4.2ghz, where as before I could run prime 95 easy for 12 hours. No g13 back in the day.
No I havn't had time quite yet to see if taking the g13 out of the loop would fix this problem but It does seem like I might be running out of usb power.

I have a silver stone 1200 watt psu. Water cooled etc.

Once in a blue moon. I try to hit delete to enter bios, and my key presses are ignored and windows boots up.

In order to correct an issue, an engineer first needs a motherboard that exhibits the problem. We have tried and simply cannot reproduce this problem with the boards we have on hand, it seems that a limited amount of boards exhibit this issue so if we can get a board in house that will certainly expedite the process.
