Can a moderator give us a status update on where EVGA is in terms of fixing this issue?  I want to know if I really need to RMA my board (a last resort) or if I should wait for a bios update to fix this issue.

not suppose to but, for those having issues with the usb ports go into the bios and move the "ich voltage" setting to 1.075 this seemed to remedy the lockups for me. been 2 weeks with no lockups. i did add a ext usb hub but i had been stable with no lockups for about a week before i even installed the hub. i belive the board doesnt by defualt out-put enough power to the usb controller. upping the volts from the facotry 1.050 to 1.075 seems to fix it.

Upping the ich voltage to 1.075 seemed to work for me with my first e758.  That mb is undergoing the step up process and I'm on a new e758 which will become my spare when the classy arrives.  I did want to add that on this mb I'm on auto and it hasn't locked up or stuttered yet then again I'm on water and my chipset/pwm temps are down considerably as well.

Voltage change didn't help me at all.  Soon as I plugged in my USB stick, it killed all my ports again.  Still waiting to hear from EVGA for a fix.

trust me 3 mobos later and lots of headaches and time lost i can truly tell ya, they ARENT going to fix the issue. imagine if they did admit it was a faulty usb controller.....theyd have everyone in this forum wanting a new e-760 and they would be out thousands. trust me i could care less. they make a bad product(fualty usb controller) then they NEED to lose money. soo to a end to the problem i did the mod with upping the "ich voltage" i upped to the 1.075 and i belive it fixed it. to be positive it wouldnt happen ever again i bought a external POWERED usb hub. that will 100% garantee the ports wont draw any voltage and be overwhelmed since the hub does no more than signal to the mobo that my devices are plugged in. been about a month now and between those 2 "mods" its running perfect. the mobo really is a great mobo other than the usb crap.

When I get my e760 I'm going to put an ek wb on it and see if she'll behave.  My bad behaving e758 did it even with a powered dlink usb hub on it.

OK I just found a fix for my SATA port failure issue, as it just happened to me again, with my replacement motherboard:
Raise ICH Vcore to 1.15V.
I think this may fix the USB lockup issue as well,
as firbrd has mentioned it worked for him.

Sorry for similar multiple posts, but I must report this in all the relevant threads.

Explanation:
I was testing an unstable OC setting and had a hard lock. On reboot I went to a stable setting and noticed that my RAID 10 array said "Initializing." It continued that for about an hour while I was testing the stable OC with LinX. Then it said "drive failed." So I raised ICH Vcore (with E-Leet) to 1.15V, without rebooting, and r-clicked the drive in Intel Matrix, and selected "mark drive as normal." The RAID array immediately began rebuilding and is currently 49% rebuilt.

I've personally had the USB issues with ICH at 1.20v, though it was quite infrequent.  I may also mention that I swapped out my motherboard with another one from a different manufacturer that I already had, and it has the same chipset (X58, ICH10R) and the ICH voltage default is 1.10, not 1.05 like the eVGA one.

Hi everyone, I just recently began having USB issues on all ports of my x58
Please describe the issue, USB not responding? USB slow?
All of my USB ports stopped working about a week and a half ago.  I sometimes am able to receive the "USB Sound" in windows when disconnecting/connecting a device. Reboots do nothing to fix the problem.
Which USB devices and/or ports are failing?
    All of them.
Which motherboard and BIOS revision are you using?
I use the x58 SLI LE and I flashed the bios about a month and a half ago.
Did this problem occur right away or over time? If so how long did it take before the problem showed? Does this issue occur on every system boot?
I had absolutely no USB issues with this system for about 7 months since I've owned it then all of the sudden they stopped working.  It occurs on every system boot, I am unable to use any USB peripherals.
Does this issue occur outside of the Operating System? Such as in BIOS? If not, which Operating System is being used?
It occurs immediately, outside of the OS.  I use Windows 7 x64
Has the motherboard been RMA'd by EVGA? If so did the issue go away or persist?
No, I have not RMA'd this board.

This is very frustrating as my machine has become essentially useless.  Any help would be greatly appreciated

Others have reported limited/temporary success with the following:

-hard reboots by turning off the psu or unplugging it
-turning off "usb selective suspend" in the windows power settings
-upping the ich vcore
-uplugging the front headers (stopped my problems)
-resetting the cmos (removing or replacing the battery)
-external powered usb hub or pci usb card to use instead of the usb's on the mobo
-replacing the mobo

1. The USB drives are responding, but only operate at USB 1.0 speeds, not 2.0 This is true of the ports built into  back of the motherboard, and also of the extension ports near the video cards that are connected to the ports at the front of my case.
2. I have not had any devices fail outright, but I don't think any of them are operating at full speed.
3. I am using the e760, and I am fairly certain I'm using BIOS 44, but don't know how to verify that number.
4. The issue occurred pretty much from the get-go, ever since I booted up my computer for the first time about 3 weeks prior to this post.
5. The issue has happened every time I boot up my computer.
6. I have been able to use my keyboard to navigate the BIOS, and obviously I wouldn't be able to access files on my USB drive from there anyway, so I have not had any issues outside the OS.
7. I am using Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate.
8. Since everything works, but the USB ports are slow, I have decided not to RMA yet.

EVGA_JacobF

Hi all,

We are still trying to reproduce the USB issue that some are experiencing in the forum. In order to correct this potential issue we need detailed information on the following items. Please respond in this thread with the following information. Please only post once in this thread.

Please describe the issue, USB not responding? USB slow?

In the past week, I have been experiencing issues with my USB mouse (MS Laser Mouse 5000).  It acts erratically.  That is the
first "sign" that something is coming.  Under these circumstances, if I plug in a Flash drive to any port built into the E758 Board,
no Windows signal and I get a message that the usb device is unknown.  At that point, I lose the ability to use my USB mouse
or keyboard, so I have to shut my UPS down and restart the computer

Which USB devices and/or ports are failing,

All, including the front ports on my Antec 900 case, which are connected to     External header 1

Which motherboard and BIOS revision are you using?

E758 with Bios SZ27.  I have had issues with other bios, so I have stuck with this one since I received as a replacement on
        Jan 21, 2010

Did this problem occur right away or over time? If so how long did it take before the problem showed? Does this issue occur on   every system boot?

No, this problem began about 10 days ago.  Started with the inablilty of the OS to recognize my PNY USB drive, after the mouse    started flaking out.  I did a hard boot and it did not help.  Had to actually power down

Does this issue occur outside of the Operating System? Such as in BIOS? If not, which Operating System is being used?

Not sure....this I have not tested  I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit.

Has the motherboard been RMA'd by EVGA? If so did the issue go away or persist?

This is my third E758 replacement.  The first died after a bios flash and slowdown to total shutdown and FF after a few days.  Board number 2 showed the above symptoms.  Then one evening, I plugged in a flash drive to the back port on my board and the system started screeching, did a blue screen and would not reboot.  Another Fatal FF code, immediately upon powerup.  Each time, Tech support has pronounced my board dead.  I think that this one may follow...I really hope not.   I can actually predict when it is going to happen.  Normally, my mouse will act like the laser is blocked.  The cursor will skip around the screen.  When this happens, I shut down normally through Windows 7.  When I do that, it still happens.  So I have to shut down with my UPS and wait until the motherboard blue light goes out...then I can turn back on and things are once again normal.  I have checked voltages with E-Leet and things seem normal.  I have disabled usb powerdown in power management as well...I have never had it enabled.

Thanks,
Jacob

Thanks for your help.
** EDIT **  Please list all usb devices you have installed.

Re:For those who are experiencing USB issues 2010/02/22 22:11:29 (permalink)
this problem started when i first got the board.  i am using the x58 classified 3 way and a corsair hx1000.  i am using vista ult 64.  whenever i plug in or remove any device into ANY usb slot(mouse/iphone/thumb drive/etc) everything plugged into any usb port stops working completely.  the first time this happened, my headset(planetronics gamecom 777) was filled with static and unusable via usb for a couple of months.  i also get low power from my usb ports now.  i cannot run anything through my g15 usb ports now because the usb ports get no power.  when this lockup happens, i have to hard power down.  if i turn off my power by >start>shutdown some of the case lights stay on.  after dling the latest BIOS, the static in my headset is gone but my computer still crashes when i mess with the usb ports.  sometimes i get warnings that my usb ports are not getting enough power.  i have done everything that i can with the power supply to fix this.

Re:For those who are experiencing USB issues 2010/02/22 22:22:44 (permalink)
I just had a very interesting adventure.  I have FOUR flash memory sticks.  I plugged each one in and checked the actual voltage used by Windows.  Example...one open port on the back of the board is port 5.  My front ports on my Antec 900 (connected via header 1 on the board) is port 4.  Here is each stick:

Sandisk Mini USB 2.0 1 GB  (200 mA)
PNY Attache 2.0  2 GB   (100mA)
PNY Attache 2.0  8 GB  (200 mA)
Patriot XT  2.0  16 GB  (200mA)

All were plugged into Port 4 and 5 with pretty much consistent measurements

Then I wanted to see what would happen with my external Western Digital 250 GB Essential USB powered drive in port 5 (the one in the back of the board).  Nothing happened for about 10 seconds...then the Windows USB "Connect" and "Disconnect" sound kept going con-dis-con-dis-con-dis-con-dis over and over again and my screen started to get really jumpy.   I shut off my UPS.  Turned the system back on and it was acting freaky...so I shut down again...turned off the UPS and hit my power button to discharge any voltage still left in the system.  Waited 10 seconds...turned everything back on and Now I can use my mouse and keyboard to type this.  Back to normal, but not sure for how long.  Wanted to get a mA reading on the external drive....things went crazy.  I guess we're all alone with this issue.

Add On:  OK...just fired up the WD External HDD on Port 5 and again nothing.  Unplugged it before things got crazy again...plugged into port 4 and it fired up.  Measured 2mA on the drive

Additional thought:  Earlier post referenced a belief that this is NOT a hardware, but a software issue.  I cannot buy that...and here is why.  I bought Windows 7 Family pak the day it was released.  I installed the 64 Bit version on this machine (E758) with i7 950, 6 GB of Corsair Dominator DDR3  PC1600, EVGA GTX 260 216 and Two WD VelociRaptors in RAID 0.   Also Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 5000 and Reclusa Keyboard with blue LED lit keys, which btw uses 400 mA of power on it's hub...max is 500 mA.

I also installed the 64 Bit version on my second machine:
Asus P5E motherboard with Q9450
4 GB of OCZ Platinum DDR2 PC8500
Two 250 GB Seagate 7200 RPM HDD's in RAID 0
EVGA 8800GTS 512
Microsoft Wireless Mouse 2000
Microsoft Digital Pro Keyboard

Third Machine got the Win 7 32 Bit Treatment
Dell Inspiron E1505
T7200 Processor
2 GB of G-Skill PC6400 DDR2
Western Digital 320 GB Caviar Black 7200 RPM HDD
Windows XP MCE SP3 partition (60 GB) for Work
Windows 7 Home Premium partition (260 GB)

Under NO circumstances has either the P5E or the Dell Inspiron ever had USB issues.  I can plug USB into both of those machines with no lockups, nothing.  Just smooth sailing.

There is something about these EVGA X58 motherboards, whether the E758, E759 or E760.  Something is wrong and I guess we beta test until we find a solution.  All I know is I am on motherboard FOUR (E758).  I like this board.  It is easy to set up and run...but when it gets unruly...it really misbehaves.  Three dead ones prove that...two of which were USB related.  Third one had issues with not running all the cores of my processor correctly....but that's another story.

My E758 will be here Thursday and would it be a good idea just to ship it back. As I see it if this goes on to long a recall on these boards would have to be done. And if that happens it would hurt EVGA big time and don't want to see that happen. I've been waiting for awhile now for this board because we just bought another house and money was tight. But if no fix for this is in the foreseeable future would it be smart to ship it back as I stated more then once. I hope this can be fixed because EVGA is my favorite company and really like what they make.

Sorry for posting this in here but I figured this was the best place to get the best answer. Since it's you who are having the issues and have a feeling inside that is telling you it will be fixed or it won't or can't. Your replies are important to me because I need a working board for my i7 930.

Than you.

Actually my 2nd e758 hasn't had any of the problems that my original one did so I'd tell you to keep the mb when it arrives.  If you don't like it then step it up within 90 days.  That is what I did with my original and I hope it comes back soon so I can water block it and get it installed.

Funny how you can tell that something is coming!  As of this morning...when I plug in a flash drive...my mouse starts to stutter almost immediately, and all the time.  The only way I have my flash drive inserted and working is that I have to insert it after all the hardware loads and before Windows.   Also forgot to say that my USB 2.0 Epson Artisan 810 is on at the same time.  Hmmm...gonna have to keep an eye on this one...

Just something to think about...maybe it has to do with USB load.  Normally, I have the USB mouse and keyboard running (obviously).  Then add ONE more thing with Flash drive...then one more thing with Printer...cumulative effect????

I've been having the same exact problem as you, but with the e758. I've been having this happen for about four months now. Asked about it on here back then and never really got a response......haven't RMA'd either.

Perhaps you should rma your mb.  When I replaced my original 758 with the new one those problems stopped and my ports function normally as did the drive controllers which caused frequent errors originally.

Thanks for the feedback guys, this is certainly helpful for us to identify the root cause, I apologize I do not have any updates at the moment.

I probably didn't have the same issue as the people above me but one thing that cleared up my problems was setting my Power Management to "High Performance" and setting the USB suspend settings to Disabled.  I haven't had a problem since. *knock-on-wood*

Oddly enough, I didn't have to disable anything previously with my previous system components with the same OS.

...not that it might have anything to do with it, but I'm also on the Beta 43 BIOS.

Re:For those who are experiencing USB issues 2010/02/25 20:29:29 (permalink)
I had a problem with the USB ports on the x58 760 board. I narrowed it down to a "shorting" problem. If I grounded myself and inserted the flash drives, I had no problem. If there was a lot of static or "dryness" in the air and inserted the flash drive it would kill my keyboard and mouse.

I haven't had the USB issue since I make sure I have no static charge on my self before inserting the flash drive. This is all on the 4 additional USB headers attached to the front of the case btw.

Where abouts is the USB setting you speak of ?
thanks :)

Does EVGA have any updates ?
Now all of my USB devices are failing. Comes up with unknown USB device randomly for everything. Sometimes it will only come alive again if i change to another USB port.
Kind of anoying when I only use the computer to play FSX... and cant use the computer.. :(
Im guessing anyone else who plays games is also getting anoyed......
Have reinstalled win7 etc etc...

You know, I'd have to agree with this.  I bought the board last March, and at that time I lived in a house with a humidifier, so static wasn't a problem, and neither were USB issues.  This summer, I moved into a house without a humidifier, and static has been a big problem since it became cold and humidity dipped in the house.  The times I had USB issues, were as I was swapping out mice, and just prior to the swaps, I walked into the closet to get the mouse and then back to the PC (all carpeted).  Now I remember as I was swapping the mouse, I got shocked on the back of the case as I was inserting or removing the devices, and its then that the USB dropped out.

To combat the static problem, I took a normal PC power cord, that you would plug into the wall and then into your power supply.  I then took about a foot of standard copper wire, stripped an inch of insulation off, and stuffed it in the female ground port, and taped it well.  Then I stripped off about 3 inches of insulation off the exposed end of the wire, and I taped it to the side of my desk, right next to where the tower sits.  I plugged the cord into a grounded outlet.  Now, before touching anything on my PC, I touch the wire, and it grounds me and gets rid of any static I have accumulated.  So far, it works great!  YMMV.

I fixed my USB problem!

Microsoft needs to come out with a fix.
My USB would just shutoff and wouldnt come back on, would have to reboot most of the time. Unplugging it wouldnt work. I noticed also that all the questions about this problem started around the same time. Looked into my windows updates and seen MS came out with a "4 security updates" all on the same day. One of which was the one that will detect blacklists. But I restored my computer to the day before those updates and wala for 2 week now, not one USB problem!

Hope this helps!
