If you're looking for a good deal on a new processor, but want nothing to do with AMD's upcoming prodigy child of a CPU, the post-Ryzen time-frame will possibly be the best time in years to make such a jump. Intel will be hard-pressed to work the only angle it can - pricing - so as to get some leeway until it can make an extensive revision to its desktop CPU product lines come 8th generation Core "Coffee Lake". This is the best time in years - period - to buy a new processor for all your computational needs. And Intel will probably try and hold you from jumping on the Ryzen bandwagon by throwing some unassuming (yet unavoidable) price-cuts your way.   Link

Since I only buy Intel, it would be to my benefit to pay a lower price for my next Intel CPU. I like this.    =)

AMD fans have great opportunity to replace Bulldozer and Vishera.
Many of them change platform and now have Intel i7 and maybe think to back to AMD.
I recommend to people stay patient until mid of March and situation become more clear.
Personally I will wait X299 chipset Intel Skylake Extreme and than to think about upgrade.

But now customers will have great bundles for 1000$ with similar performance as i7-6950X base speed after overclock.
    AMD Ryzen 7 1800X + ASUS Crosshair 6 + 16GB 3000MHz DDR4
For price of i7-6950X people could buy whole gaming RIG and processor will be very similar i7-6950X.

    1. R7 1800X  - 500$
    2. EVGA CLC120 CPU AIO Cooler 90$
    3. ASUS Crosshair 6 - 250$
    4. 32GB TridentZ 3000 - 200$
    5. EVGA GTX1080 Hybrid - 680$

ALL OF THIS vs i7-6950X and he is not much stronger than R7 1800X.
BUT THEY CAN'T BE COMPARED, IT'S NOT FAIR COMPARISON.
That's how much Intel drain money for 5% upgrade.
Believe me I change on X99 only because it's similar performance as premium model from mainstream, similar price and I couldn't stand any more to Intel launch new chipset 5 months after my upgrade. First few months you read about positive and negative things, than you buy platform and for 5 months he is outdated.
People arrive to ask how to OC and their platform is not important any more and no one talk about ex chipset.

Great thing with AMD is because is almost sure that new socket will last 5 years and chipset not less than 2-3.
That's coolest things and performance of i7-6950X. But to early for investing because we don't have idea what Intel can launch.
They could show up with processors 30-40% stronger than AMD with Skylake Xtreme and than Investment in AMD will not look so good as now. From other side, Intel's fail with Skylake Xtreme will push more people to AMD than launch date of Ryzen, because than next 3 years AMD will keep throne.
When I say Intel Broadwell-E is not good even for 500$... Do you know why?
Enthusiasts don't want to pay loser 500$ when for same money AMD offer better.
They will rather to pay CPU who hold World Records with 8 cores over CPU with 10 cores than i7-6900K.
Because of that Intel discounts are stupid. They should sold all processors as soon as possible for anything they can get and start development of new socket, chipset and architecture now instantly.

Yes but your thread wasn't a news article. It was merely conjecture made by looking at the price cuts microcenter shows in relation to the suggested MSRP. As we stated in that thread those are the prices that those cpu's have been selling for awhile. And if you look at price history not even the lost price that some of those CPU's have sold at.

I believe what the OP and the article are getting at is that in order to be competitive you will see intel lowering the price even further then it is now listed at.

and isn't that what i opined about the other story  "saying the cuts are minor" compared to what the supposed Ryzen benchies are and I was alluding to bigger price drops to compete
    like why would i pay $1000 for a i7 8core when a $400+ ryzen will do  or pay 1599 for a 10 core when a 499 ryzen will do
1/3 the cost for the same performance - intel has to drop prices

the discussion was there -  i was making the case as to why make 2 threads talking about the same thing
